Chapter 1: A Spooky Start

Monster High: A New Start (Male Reader)Words: 18970

The Bermuda Triangle.....

The storm of the sea raged on in a violent manner. The large ship that tried to sail it's waters began to trash around. The crew on board struggled to keep their heads over the dangerous water.

This ship was carrying none other than world famous monster hunter Van Helsing.

Helsing: Onward, men! This storm cannot be what stops us!

The crew worked as hard as they could to try and keep the ship afloat. One of these crew members was a young boy. One who wore a white button up with a pair of brown trousers and F/C suspenders.

His H/C hair flew wildly in the wind. He grabbed onto a rope to try and keep the sail from turning, but he was just a boy who did have the strength to fight against the winds of nature. You were only 13, after all.

The wind pulled on the sail which sent you flying into the air. You landed inside of the boat, but you slid until your back hit the broken railing. The rain and sea water slashed upon your body while you gasped for air.

You found yourself being pulled to your feet by your uncle. Not blood related. No, this man was the person who found and adopted you after he found you in the middle of the woods.

You couldn't remember anything from before.

Helsing: On your feet, nephew. We must remain prepared for...

RHAHAHAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHH!

You both turned towards the head of the ship.

Helsing: It's here! Brace yourselves!

Y/N: Holy shi-

RAHHHHHHHHH

The monster dove towards the boat while your uncle pulled out his knife.

Helsing: Bring it on!!!!!

Y/N: Ahhhhhhhh!!!!

----------------

The Amazon Jungle....

Y/N: Crap crap crap crap!!!

You ran as fast as you could through the jungles of the Amazon. Your feet were burning but you couldn't stop now. Even at 14 years old, you found it hard to run through rough terrain.

You wore a white explorer shirt with a pair of tan khaki shorts and a leather cap. In your right hand was a machete, and in your left was a map to the key to stopping the wild monster's takeover of the jungle.

Said monsters were now chasing you.

Y/N: Uncle! They're getting closer!

You ran while your uncle watched from his position from the trees. He waited as you ran past an unseen rope. Then, he pulled a switch which sent the rope up at ankle level.

When the wild monsters hit the rope, a device hidden in the bushes activated and fired off several darts towards the creatures.

You tripped and fell forward, sending the machete to fly a few feet away and stab into the ground. Your uncle jumped down from his position and walked over to you.

Helsing: Good work, lad. You did remarkably well.

He held out a hand towards you. You stared at it for a brief moment and began to wonder why you still agreed to his plans.

Regardless, you took his hand and he pulled you up to your feet.

------------

Himalayas....

You hugged yourself as you walked through the snow storm. It was freezing cold. So much so that you could almost feel the frost bite nipping at your fingers. It burnt your skin.

Your clothing, made specifically for this kind of weather, had become a bit tattered due to your narrow escape from the falling airplane that had since crashed into the side of the large mountain you now found yourself on.

15 years old and this was how you were going to die. You still had so much more you wanted to do. So much more you wanted to see. Like a woman's bare breast!

But it seems that fate had deemed this to be your end. There was nothing you could do about it. Years hunting monster with your uncle were about to come to an end.

Your dropped to your knees but caught yourself before you could completely fall over. You held yourself up as you tried to catch your breath.

Them, you heard crunching.

You looked up to see a figure walking towards you through the storm. But, you never got to see who it was.

Y/N: So....cold...

You lost consciousness as you fell over into the snow.

-------------

Arizona...

You laid in bed and stared at the roof of your bedroom. You were now 16. However you were still helping your uncle on his missions. Same soup just reheated.

Though, you did notice the lack of jobs lately. Not in general, just the kinds that he would take you on.

Helsing: Rest and relax, my boy.

Y/N: If only it was that easy.

You had no idea what to even do. You were just left here at one of his many, many safe houses. Why Arizona? A Thunderbird was causing problems or something. You weren't really sure.

You began to wonder what a normal teenager would be doing. Probably something.....normal?

What was even normal? Did you ever know?

Creepin' through the shadows~

You lifted your head at the sound of your phone. You grabbed it and answered.

Y/N: Uh, hello?

Helsing: Nephew? How are you holding up?

Y/N: Good, I guess. Just bored. I don't know what to do.

Helsing: I see. Well, I apologize for that.

You just shrugged.

Y/N: It's not really your fault, uncle. I mean, what's missing out on one adventure?

There was silence.

Y/N: It is just this one adventure, right?

Helsing: Nephew, I've been meaning to talk to you about this for a while now.

Y/N: What?

Helsing: I had taken your childhood away from you. You never had a chance to experience your youth to it's fullest. For that, I am truly sorry.

What was he talking about? You were traveling the world and going on crazy adventures. What better way was there to spend your youth?!

Helsing: I enrolled you into a school.

Y/N: What?!

Helsing: You will be joining late, but I called in a favor from the headmistress. She owed me.

Y/N: So you're gonna send me to some school instead of taking me on jobs now?! What the heck, Uncle?!

Helsing: Believe me, Y/N. This is best for you. But you can rest easy. The school isn't just any school. This one is...special.

A special school? What about it made it so special? And what kind of favor did he call in? Maybe it was a job he had done in the past. Your uncle was pretty famous after all.

Y/N: *sigh* Fine. When do I head out?

Helsing: Tomorrow. You will be set up in my safe house in New Salem. I'll have the staff send your personal belongings.

You just accepted your fate. You reached up and scratched your cheek, only four of your fingers touched your skin since your ring finger was now gone.

Y/N: Alright. Will I at least see you before I leave?

Helsing: I'm afraid not. I have too much business here to handle. But fear not, child. I will stay in touch.

You just looked out the window up into the sky. New Salem, huh?

You wondered what this new place would be like.

-----------------

New Salem....

You tossed and turned all night from a restless slumber. During your dream, you saw something odd. You saw a....a ring of somekind. It was hazy, but you could make out a faint shape.

It was in a shape of a....a bat?

You groaned as you slowly opened your eyes at the sound of your alarm going off. You looked at the time to see that it was 7:30 PM.

Right. This place is a night school for some reason. You didn't really know why nor did you really care. Your uncle just told you to talk to the headmaster when you got there. Ms. Bloodgood or something.

First, you needed to get dressed.

You fixed the collar of your denim coat as you walked down the street. The beanie on your head remained comfortably. You left all your gear back at the apartment, save for some smaller things, since it was school.

Who brings weapons to school?

True monsters, that's who.

You noticed that not a lot of people were around, but a strange kind of aura seemed to fall over the town. Almost like humans had a natural rule to let the monsters roam during the night.

That actually wasn't too uncommon. There were plenty of places where monsters and humans co-existed. Some places had laws where humans walked around during day and monsters run around during night. Some places had both walking around at both times.

This town seemed to be somewhere in the middle. You saw some places still open with humans working, but no one was really walking around.

You finally reached the road that would lead to the school and headed down towards it. As you did, you heard a noise nearby.

You stopped and looked up at a nearby tree. Was that fluttering? Did something get stuck in the branches?

You made your way over to the tree and looked up. Through the darkness, you could make out a small silhouette of a bat. It looks like it flew into the tree by accident.

No point in leaving it there when you could help. What kind of jerk would do that?

You began to take your backpack off as you examined the tree.

Y/N: Don't worry. I'm gonna help.

You tossed your bag down and took a few steps back. You then ran forward a bit and kicked up the bark before grabbing a branch. You pulled yourself up and started to climb up the tree.

Once you reached the branch where the bat was stuck, you carefully made your way over to it. As you got closer, you noticed that the bat had what seemed to be a small pink bow on it's ear.

Was it a female?

It didn't seem to notice you. It continued to thrash around to try and free itself.

Y/N: Hey, shhhh. Shh shh. It's alright, girl. I'm here to help.

The bat seemed to react to your voice. The creature watched as you got a bit closer with your hands up to show you meant no harm.

It allowed you to reach down and start to free it from the small tangle it had gotten trapped in. Like a nature made bear trap of somekind.

Once you were able to get it free, it flew up and seemed to enjoy it's new freedom. Satisfied that it was now safe, you smiled and hopped down from the branch and landed back on the ground.

You picked up your bag and sighed.

Y/N: I would love to stay and chat, but I can't be late for my first day of school.

You took a single step before a voice echoed in the darkness of night.

???: Did you say school?

You stopped and looked around the area confused. No one was here. Where did that voice come from? Suddenly, you heard a giggle.

???: Up here, silly.

You stopped looking around, then you slowly looked up right back to where you just were. The fluttering had stopped and instead, there was a girl sitting there.

A...really cute girl.

How did she.....wait. Was she the bat? A vampire?

The girl jumped down and landed right in front of you. Now that she was here, you could see the height difference between you both. It was very significant.

???: I've never seen you before. You must be the new student that Ms. Bloodgood was talking about.

Ms. Bloodgood. That was the woman you were supposed to talk to when you arrived. But, this girl is a vampire. You've never heard of a school that both monsters and humans attended.

What was going on?

You looked back to the girl to see that she was waiting for your answer. She looked very curious.

Y/N: Uh, yeah. That's me, I think. What did you say this school was called again?

The girl's smile seemed to grow wider, really showing off her fangs, before she announced the answer to your question.

???: Monster High!

Monster High? That didn't sound like....

???: Oh, where are my manners?! Thank you for helping me out of that tree.

Oh yeah. She was the bat.

Y/N: Right. Uh, no problem. I'm glad to have helped. I'm guessing you're a student at Monster High?

???: Yep! My name is Draculaura. Nice to meet you!

Draculaura? Did she...was she related to......would that be a problem? Did she know who you were? Did she know who your uncle is?

Draculaura: What's your name?

Y/N: Uh, uh....Y/N.

Draculaura: Y/N?

You froze a bit as she leaned towards you. She seemed to examine you closely while you awkwardly smiled.

Then, she smiled.

Draculaura: I like that name!

Oh, thank the Elder Gods. She wasn't gonna eat you alive. Actually, she seemed to be very friendly. And she acted like any other teenager. Or, if she was a teenager. If she's a vampire, then she would age slower than you would. Every thousand years was like a human year.

Judging by her appearance, you guessed she was in her 15,000's. No, it never got any less weird thinking that way.

Draculaura: Well, if you're going to Monster High, why don't we walk there together? I can show you how to get to Headmistress Bloodgood's office.

You thought about her offer. It would be helpful to have someone who knew their way around rather than just running around blindly. Plus, maybe you could learn a bit more about this place.

After a moment of consideration, you decided to take her up on her offer.

The two of you walked together towards the school for a while. Before long, you realized that other students were walking to the school as well. All monsters.

Y/N: Do Monsters of all kind attend this school?

Draculaura: Yes. Monster High is the only school in the world where monsters of all races attend. Pretty cool, huh?

You smiled at her enthusiasm. Though she did definitely sound like she came from Transylvania. It was actually quite a cute accent.

You also began to wonder if it was a good thing or not that your uncle raises you to see monsters as human to an extent. Did she classify as undead? Was she ever alive? She had to have been born a vampire, right?

Right?!

Draculaura: So, Y/N, where are you from? You just moved here, yes?

You thought about it.

Y/N: Can't say I really came from anywhere. I've always traveled for as long as I could remember.

Draculaura: Really? Then you must have seen a lot of interesting places.

You stopped walking and stood there with a cold dead face.

Helsing: Careful, Y/N! This area is full of poison ivy!

Helsing: Watch out for the piranhas, boy! They bite anything that moves!

Helsing: Don't move, nephew. The creature will come once he smells you. When he does, I'll be ready to hit it with an unreliable bolt at the very last possible moment.

You shivered before you resumed walking.

Y/N: Yeah. I've seen plenty of "interesting" places.

Draculaura: Why did you freeze? What happened? Y/N? Y/N?!

--------------

Y/N: So, this is Monster High, then? It's, uh, pretty cool.

You looked around at all the monsters that were gathered in the area. Everyone seemed to not only be happy here, but they seemed to feel safe. It was easy to tell why.

There didn't seem to be any threat of a lynching mob here. And you could tell that this school was well protected as well.

Though, you wondered how many could tell that you're a human. It didn't seem like Draculaura knew.

Draculaura: So, you need to go and talk to Headless Headmistress Bloodgood, right?

Y/N: Yeah. My uncle's letter told me to talk to her about did you just call her Headless Headmistress Bloodgood?

The doors to Monster High suddenly swung open, sending a student flying off the side of the steps, revealing a woman.

You recognized her immediately.

Y/N: Oooooh.....Ms. Nora Bloodgood. I'm a moron.

???: Hello there, Y/N. Long time no see.

Quick back story: you and your uncle actually went to Sleepy Hollow, her hometown and where your uncle battled against her father, The Headless Horseman himself, and helped her by breaking an ancient curse that had the townspeople becoming infected with a mysterious illness known as Covid.

Good thing your uncle managed to stop it, huh?

The woman walked down the steps and greeted you with a warm smile. In returned, you approached her with a grin. She ended up embracing you, which confused Draculaura greatly.

Bloodgood: You have grown so much. How long as it been?

Y/N: 3 years, now. But you haven't aged a day, ma'am.

Bloodgood always had a soft spot for you. You were only 13 when you last saw her. And, from what your uncle told you, she was an old friend.

Draculaura: Uh, am I missing something here?

You turned back to her but Ms. Bloodgood answered before you could.

Ms. Bloodgood: Draculaura, thank you for showing Y/N here the way to school. But if you'll excuse us, we do have much to discuss.

Draculaura: Oh. O-okay, then. I guess I'll see you later, Y/N. Welcome to Monster High!

You waved to her with a small smile as she left to go find her friends, you guessed. You turned back to Ms. Bloodgood who sighed.

Bloodgood: Come along, child. Perhaps it will be best if we spoke in private.

----------

You sat in a very comfortable leather chair across from Ms. Bloodgood. You were now in her office which looked pretty.....authenticly pleasing.

Lots of purples and blues.

Bloodgood: Now, Y/N, let me start by saying that I am very happy to see you again. I'm glad that reckless uncle of yours hasn't gotten you killed.

You chuckled nervously.

Y/N: Yeah. I'm glad to see you're still well yourself. I didn't know you were the Head Mis...

Bloodgood cleared her throat. She them tapped on the name plate on her desk.

Headless Misstress

Y/N: Uh, I didn't know that you were the Headless Misstress of a school. But, I got to ask, why am I here? Isn't this a Monster school?

Bloodgood folded her hands.

Bloodgood: You are correct. And as far as anyone here knows, you are not a human.

You narrowed your eyes in confusion.

Bloodgood: You're confused. I figured this would be the case. Why would your uncle tell you anything? Typical, frustrating Helsing.

Y/N: Uh, what am I missing, exactly?

Bloodgood sighed as she rubbed her eyes, however, when she did, her head popped off and dropped to the floor. Her body stood up immediately and began to stumble around to look for it.

Bloodgood: Oh, not again. Sorry, Y/N. This will take a moment.

You watched her body walk around awkwardly.

Y/N: Do you need help?

Bloodgood: No, no. Just hang tight.

Bloodgood's body grabbed her head and picked it up. She walked back to her desk and sat down before putting her head back on.

Bloodgood: Now, where was I?

Y/N: You were about to tell me why I'm here.

Bloodgood: Ah! That's right.

She folded her hands again.

Bloodgood: Your uncle asked me to pull some strings to have you attend Monster High. The only catch is, you'll have to help me with some work around the school.

You looked at her dumbfounded.

Y/N: What?

Bloodgood: You'll have to act as the school's hall monitor.

Y/N: Oh. That's not so bad...

Bloodgood: And by hall monitor I mean you'll have to help me protect these students from any dangers that may befall them.

Y/N: There it is.

You sighed as you dropped your head onto the desk.

So much for a normal high school life. Though, that did seen to go out the window when you were entered into a Monster school.

Bloodgood: You will officially be the first human to attend a monster school. If all goes well, this may become a normal occurrence. Please do well to do your best.

You mumbled something into the desk that she couldn't hear. She just took it as a "yes, ma'am".

Bloodgood: And do you have your contacts?

You lifted your head. You held your eye open and pulled out your eye contact.

Bloodgood: Good. You may need some of your equipment to survive some of the more dangerous things around the school.

Y/N: Wait, what?

--------

The door to the office closed on your face while you stood there shocked. You looked around for a moment before you realized you were just kicked out.

Y/N: What do I do? Where do I go? Nora? Nora?! What do I do?! What dangers are there?! Hey!

Welcome to Monster High!
