You checked over your camera for a moment while nodding along with the music you were playing. A friend passing by said goodbye and you looked up long enough to return the gesture.
Lagoona: Looks like our resident director is back at it again.
You looked up to see your good friend apporching you. Being the manager of the swim club, the two of you had gotten fairly close to one another.
Though, maybe too close.
Y/N: Uh, h-hey, Lagoona. Um, you finish your, uh, laps?
Lagoona sighed and stopped in front of you. You didn't meet her eyes.
Lagoona: Y/N, are you still trying to avoid me?
You grabbed your bag and stuffed your camera into it. You then stood up and looked at her.
Y/N: That is a ridiculous idea, Lagoona. Now, if you'll excuse me, I need to go, uh, do something somewhere else.
You tried to walk away but Lagoona grabbed your wrist. You looked back at her.
Lagoona: We both agreed to forget about it. It was just...something that happened in the moment.
You looked around before pulling your wrist away and leaned closer to her.
Y/N: Lagoona, we kissed. You're dating Gill.
Lagoona lowered her head. She recalled that night where you and her stayed late so that she could get some more laps in. Feelings were spilt and one thing lead to another.
Y/N: I think it's best if, just right now, we just.....I don't know. Stay away from each other?
Lagoona: Easy for you to say.
She pulled away from you and began to walk off.
Lagoona: You do whatever you think is best. I'll just go deal with this myself.
You sighed.
Y/N: Lagoona...
It was too late. She walked off, ready to cry while you were forced to watch. You sighed and took off your hat.
How was it that you weren't following in your uncle's footsteps yet were still hurting monsters? And that was the least of your problems.
Draculaura: Was that Lagoona?
You looked behind you to see Draculaura heading towards you with her bag.
Frankie: She didn't look too happy. Did something happen?
You just shrugged and forced a smile.
Y/N: No clue. She was just asking about swim practice.
You turned to Draculaura.
Y/N: Ready to head home?
Draculaura nodded and the three of you headed out of Monster High.
Frankie: How long have you been living with Draculaura now?
Draculaura: Coming up four months.
You took a deep breath. That seemed like a long time, but only because you weren't really used to staying in one location for so long.
Being raised by your uncle, Vincent Van Helsing, you were used to traveling and going place to place. But now, after the whole homecoffin situation, you had been living with the Dracula family. On the weekends, at least. It hasn't been bad, but you still had some get used to some stuff.
Draculaura: Oh, did you guys hear?
Y/N: No. What happened?
Draculaura: Well, Cleo told me that Clawdeen told her that Abbey told her that Gill is going to break up with Lagoona.
You were actually surpised by this news. Though, that would explain why Lagoona was so upset the night that everything happened.
Frankie: Oh no. They were such a cute couple.
She turned to you.
Frankie: Did you hear anything?
You snapped out of your thoughts and shook your head.
Y/N: N-No. Not a peep.
Draculaura: Well, we shouldn't worry about it too much. We have a party to prepare for to celebrate half a year of human/monster education!
You and Frankie both smiled at her enthusiasm. It has indeed been a half year since you had joined the school as the first human and in that time, a lot has happened. But, now, Headmistress Bloodgood was throwing a celebration in honor of you not being killed yet.
Yay.
And the party was tonight.
Yay.
--------------
You sighed as you looked at yourself in the mirror. You wore a pair of jeans with a red hoodie. Over the hoodie, you wore your denim vest which had a series of patches on the back. Your headphones stayed around your neck while your beanie stayed firmly on your head.
You looked over to your phone and frowned. You really wanted to call Lagoona, but you knew she was mad at you. You were also to blame for what happened.
You wished you could go back and do things differently, but what was the point of thinking about it? It happened and now you were supposed to deal with it.
Y/N: I'm an idiot.
Your door suddenly opened and you found Draculaura peeking in.
Draculaura: Y/N! Cupid is here!
You smiled widely, completely forgetting about your worries, and hurried to follow her to Cupid. Once you reached the top of the stairs, you spotted her with two other girls.
Y/N: Cupid!
Cupid looked up and smiled. You ran down and picked her up in a tight hug. The two girls seemed to watch you with wide eyes of disbelief.
You set Cupid down and looked at her.
Y/N: It's been forever!
Cupid: I know. Sorry I couldn't call or text. The Headmaster at my new school is kinda a stickler for the rules. But now, things have changed.
Draculaura: And who are your friends?
Cupid turned to her two friends and began to introduce them.
Cupid: This is Darling and Ruby. We go to school together.
The younger one, Ruby, stared at you in confusion.
Cupid: Girls, these two are good friends of mine. Draculaura and Y/N Van Helsing.
Ruby: Van Helsing?
Ruby couldn't shake that you looked strikingly similar to her brother. But, you had some differences. Like your nose and your eyes.
You chuckled.
Y/N: Yeah. My uncle is Vincent Van Helsing. It's nice to meet you both.
You held out your hand and they both took turns shaking it.
Cupid: So, are you two an item yet?
You and Draculaura looked at each other before looking back at to the pink haired girl.
Y/N/Draculaura: No.
Cupid: Dang it! I always thought you two would be such a cute couple. You even live together now. How did that happen, by the way?
Draculaura: It's a very long story.
Y/N: Let's just say that there was a huge dragon.
You and Draculaura both stared off into the distance as that day played back in your head.
Ruby cleared her throat which snapped you both back to reality.
Y/N: Uh, anyway, I'm glad that you could make it to the half year anniversary.
Darling: What is this anniversary for anyway?
Draculaura: Today marks a half year since Y/N here became the first ever human to attend Monster High!
Darling/Ruby: Monster High?
Cupid didn't explain. She was just happy to be with her friends again.
-------------
Ruby was at a lost for words. She has seen some crazy stuff in her life, but this was just insane. She was in a room filled with monsters.
Well, she didn't quite understand why this would be considered weird, she went to school with fairy godmother in training, goats, trolls, and giants, but she felt like this should be weird.
Her and Darling had followed Cupid, Draculaura, and you to this weird looking school where a party was being held. Music bumped and everyone danced, but this was a farcry from their friend's parties.
Darling: So, what do we do, exactly?
Cupid: What you do at parties. You party!
Cupid grabbed Darling and pulled her along to the dance floor while Ruby stayed back. She took a drink from her cup and looked around.
Clawdeen: Hey. You're Cupid's friend, right?
Ruby looked over and found Clawdeen standing there.
Ruby: Uh, yes. I'm Ruby. Ruby Ozmandias.
Clawdeen: Nice to meet you, Ruby. My name is Clawdeen. Wolf.
Ruby nodded in response.
Clawdeen: What are you doing over here by yourself? You don't dance?
Ruby shrugged.
Ruby: It's just weird not knowing anyone. I'm not from here and Cupid ran off with my other friend.
Ruby pointed to the dance floor where Darling and Cupid were dancing. Clawdeen just smiled and placed an arm around the younger girl.
Clawdeen: Come on, kiddo. You're with me for the night. I'll show you the ropes.
Ruby smiled as Clawdeen lead her to go and talk to some of her friends. And across the room, you leaned against a wall as you chatted with some of the other students.
Clawd: That's why I'm confused. They were sp good for each other. Why are they breaking up now?
You just shrugged. It seemed that Lagoona and Gill were the topic of conversation all over. Everyone wanted to know why they suddenly broke up. Yet no one knew about what had happened between you and Lagoona.
Draculaura: Maybe something else was happening behind the scenes.
Deuce: Gill's parents never did like her. Maybe it finally snapped.
Y/N: Yeah, well, who knows? Whatever it is, it's between them.
Deuce nudged you with a smirk.
Deuce: What's up with you? You've been all jumpy lately.
Y/N: Don't you need to get those drinks back to Cleo?
Deuce looked down at the drinks he was holding before realizing you were right.
Deuce: Crap!
Deuce ran off as to try and not meet the fury of his beau, leaving you alone with the couple.
Clawd: He's right, you know. Is something wrong, dude?
You just rolled your eyes. However, when you did, you noticed something.
Y/N: Hey, isn't that Cupid's friend?
Clawd and Draculaura both looked over to the dance floor to find Cupid dancing with Darling. It looked like they were really getting into it. And just next to them was Ruby and Clawdeen dancing with Cleo and Abbey. Deuce joined them shortly.
Draculaura: Looks like they're having fun.
You smiled a bit before noticing someone. Lagoona was hanging off on her own, clearly bothered by all the attention she was now getting. Your conversation from earlier echoed in your head.
You sighed and soon found yourself heading her way.
Lagoona watched as everyone danced and sang and had fun. She would usually be joining her friends, but everyone wanted to know why her and Gil were now done.
Y/N: Hey.
Lagoona found you heading her way with two cups. You offered her one but she just stared at you.
Y/N: Just, take it. Please?
Lagoona didn't say anything at first. She then rolled her eyes and took one of the cups. She took a drink while you leaned next to her. Neither of you spoke for a while. You just stared out at the crowd.
Lagoona: Why are you doing this?
You shrugged.
Y/N: Cause I'm a coward?
Lagoona looked at you oddly. You suddenly pushed off the wall and turned to her.
Y/N: Can we go somewhere more private?
Lagoona: The speech is about to start. Don't you have to be here for it?
You shook your head.
Y/N: This is more important.
You started to walk off to find a more private place. After a while, Lagoona followed.
------------
Lagoona stared at the desks and computers as you flicked on the lights. You had a key to the film room thanks to your status as the Film Club president. It also gave you the privacy you needed for this conversation.
Lagoona: Okay. We're here. Now what?
You turned back to her and took a deep breath. You clapped your hands together and sighed.
Y/N: We need to talk.
Lagoona tilted her head, waiting for you to start.
Y/N: Look. I, I'm sorry. About everything. I've been a pretty crappy friend lately.
Lagoona: You don't say.
You frowned.
Y/N: And, I'm really sorry about you and Gill.
Lagoona groaned but you quickly walked over to her.
Y/N: If I didn't kiss you then...
Lagoona: That's not why we broke up!
You stopped.
Y/N: It's not?
Lagoona shook her head.
Lagoona: We broke up a week before that. We just didn't let anyone know because we knew this would happen.
This was news to you.
Y/N: Wait, what? W-w-what do you mean?
Lagoona sighed. She then sat down in a desk and crossed her arms. You slowly joined her.
Lagoona: His parents never liked me. We knew, but we always believed that it didn't matter. Turns out, it did. Gill never defended me against them when they would talk down to me or.....they were so mean but he never said anything.
She laughed a bit.
Lagoona: Yet, there you were, ready to get into a brawl over some guy looking at me like I was some kind of abomination. You were always there to have my back. Always ready to come to my rescue.
You looked down at your hands.
Y/N: Yet I ran.
Lagoona: No, you didn't....
Y/N: Yes I did. I kissed you and I got scared and I ran. And earlier, I ran. I'm always running. I'm a coward.
Lagoona grabbed your arm, stopping you.
Lagoona: You are not a coward. Don't you dare call yourself a coward. You are one of the bravest people I know.
You shook your head.
Y/N: I don't exactly feel brave.
You lowered your head. Lagoona, however, wasn't giving up. She moved her hand from your arm to your hand, which you held.
Y/N: My family might be out there.
Lagoona lifted her head.
Lagoona: What?
You took a deep breath and looked up.
Y/N: Dracula, he told me that I'm not from here. That, that my real home and my real family are out there somewhere.
You looked to her.
Y/N: I'm scared that I'm wrong. And that was why I ran after I kissed you. Because I was scared that I was wrong.
You then shrugged and forced a smile.
Y/N: I'm sorry. I should've stayed.
Lagoona gently squeezed your hand.
Lagoona: Do you regret it?
You nodded.
Y/N: Yeah. Cause.....I....uh...
You scratched the back of your neck, trying to find the words. Luckily, you didn't need to. Instead, Lagoona leaned forward and kissed you.
She pulled away and looked at you.
Lagoona: So, what are you going to do now?
You didn't say or do anything. But, after a while, you leaned in and kissed her again.
-----------
Cupid: This was just spelltacular! Thank you for inviting us.
Draculaura: Of course! I am so happy that you came!
The two girls hugged while Ruby and Darling watched. They ended up having a lot of fun at this Monster High party. Though Helsing did dissappear and the speech he was supposed to do ended up not happening.
Draculaura: It was nice to meet you two! Stay safe on your way home!
Ruby: Thank you! I hope we can meet again!
Darling: Have a good night!
The three girls walked back the way they came and, before long, they made it back to wherever they came from. Draculaura wasn't quite sure.
But back at the dorms, you walked Lagoona back to the ghouls' side of the building.
Y/N: So, uh, are we...
Lagoona: I don't think I'm ready for another relationship right now.
Y/N: Oh thank Satan.
You both laughed. You weren't really sure you wanted a relationship, and you didn't want to jump head first into one. Likewise, Lagoona did just get out of one.
Lagoona: Letâs just say, "we did that but we're still mates."
Y/N: I agree. Maybe not with the accent tthough. I can never nail it.
Lagoona just laughed. And so, you both would remain friends. Not a bad end of the night.
Although, seeing that Ruby girl did give you a strange feeling. One that felt almost...familiar.
