Cara showed us around the grounds around the house. It was a lot of ground but I wanted to get out and see the rest of the pack. Driving up through the pack, the little I saw on the way, it looked beautiful.
âIâll leave you guys to look around on your own, I have to find my brother,â we said our thanks and watched as Cara walked off. The second I saw that she was out of sight and walked inside the house I grabbed Annas arm and pulled her away.
âWhoa whatâs wrong?â
âSomething super freaky just happened,â I whispered.
âwhat- whatâs wrong?â
âWhen I looked into Caras eyes, after telling her about Kade saying I wasnât allowed to shift, i started seeing theseâ¦these memories,â
âMemories?â
âYeah but not my memories. I saw Cara and Kade talking in Kadeâs office before he came to our pack for the metting of Alphas.â She squinted her eyes and winced.
âThatâs not possible, Layla, you werenât there. How-â
âI donât know, I have no idea how it happened and Clara canât explain it either.â
âBut she saw it too? Your wolf I mean,â
âYes, saw it and heard it,â
âHeard it? What did you hear?â
âThey were talking about the meeting and Sebastian and about someone named Danielle,â
âWhoâs Danielle?
âI donât know but apparently sheâs dead,â
âThatâs dark,â Anna stepped back and looked squeamishly at me.
âI- i donât know whatâs happening, I canât explain it,â
âItâs weird, Iâm not gonna lie and Iâm a little freaked out but I believe you. Do it on me,â I rose and brow. Why was she asking me to do that?
âDo what?â
âThe memory thing, do it on me,â she said and waved her hands in front of me making it look like she was doing a magic spell.
âI donât know how to do it,â
âTry,â Anna stepped forward. Her eyes grew serious and she looked into mine.
I felt her, her emotions and whatever memory she was thinking of was upsetting.
âHey mom, can we talk? Mom?â
âHoney i donât have time, the twins have to get ready for school and then we have the classes at the universityâ
âItâs important, I wanna moveâ Anna said quickly.
âGo ahead babyâ her mom didnât even turn around or stop fiddling in her bag and amongst her books.
âAre you serious? I said that Iâm leavingâ
âSweetheart, Anna, youâre a smart girl so whatever you choose Iâm sure will be greatâ
She turned just quick enough to give Anna a kiss on her cheek and then she zipped her bag and yelled for the twins to get down.
She had tears brimming in her eyes when I came back too. I grabbed her hand, stroking the back with my thumb before I pulled her into my body and wrapped my arms around her.
âIâm so sorry,â I said and pulled back. âWhy didnât you tell me?â
She wiped the tears and smiled through the pain.
âI donât know, thatâs just the way itâs been lately. They donât really have time to care,â
âIâm still so very sorry,â
We walked around and took in the scenery. There was a little slope behind the house where the green grass rolled down and panned out. The grass looked torn in places and brown patches rippled through the green and I assumed this was where the warriors trained.
âItâs beautiful here, isnât it?â Anna said and looked in awe. There wasnât much but there was a lot of land and beautiful thick trees. Benches were beautifully placed around a pond, and though it was closed off and the wall grew almost as big as the trees, it really was beautiful. Like a private sanctuary.
âIt is,â I said and smiled.
âWe live here now,â she said and smiled widely.
âYeah Iâm not so sure how I feel about that just yet,â
We walked into the house and stood in the big hallway. It was odd, it felt like I was home in a way and yet, another part of me felt much more torn and pulled away from this place. I was divided and so were my feelings and the niceties and the beautiful house and environment seemed to only be a facade.
Anna was joyfully running around the bottom floor. There were tons of rooms and open spaces that she ran through and drew her hands over everything. In the final room she jumped off the floor and landed face down on the big white bear couch.
âThis is awesome and do you hear how quiet it is,â she sprayed out on the couch and lifted her head.
âYeah,â i said and looked around in question. âA little to quiet,â Kade had earlier said how the lead warriors stayed in the house as well yet there was nobody here.
The house was completely silent.
I heard footsteps coming towards us and looked out into the hallway.
âThere you are, how are you guys doing?â Cara asked as she and Mason stepped inside.
âWhere is everyone?â I asked and Anna looked at me incredulously and slowly sat up on the couch.
Mason cleared his throat and pulled out a chair that he sat down on. He leaned his elbows on his knees and looked at me.
âTheyâre with the other pack members and will rejoin us when the timing is right,â
âAnd when is that exactly?â I asked and crossed my arms over my chest. It started to feel more like we joined a cult rather than a pack. What were they protecting us from? Or where they protecting their pack from us?
âIt wonât be long now,â Cara said and smiled timidly.
They stretched and Mason stood up.
âDinner is ready so I hope youâre all hungry,â
We walked together into the dining hall. It wasnât big but could house the ranked members and a few warriors.
Six wooden benches stood in pairs of two in the hall and there was a counter against the wall where the food was placed out and their chef stood ready to serve the food.
The wooden panel doors were lined in oak with black metal handles and the whole room screamed of a hunter vibe but it was calm and it was nice.
We sat down and I noticed how everyone was here accept for Kade.
âWhereâs your brother?â Cara rose a brow and put a strawberry in her mouth.
âYou mean your mate?â It still sounded and felt weird.
âDonât worry, heâs in his office handling some paperwork but heâll be down soon,â just as she spoke we heard heavy footsteps coming toward the dining hall.
âDid everything go well?â She asked him as he sat down. Kade nodded his head and looked at me.
âIt did. Have you two gotten a chance to look around and familiarize yourselves with the house?â He asked.
âWe have, everywhere but the top floor,â I had a though and hoped it would work. Kade tensed for a second, he narrowed his eyes on me and chewed on the inside of his cheek.
âGood,â I saw past his walls, felt his emotions, the bubbly worry he had was causing my stomach to shift but I couldnât see a memory. I was hoping that if I brought it up it would remind him of something that would tell me why I couldnât go up there. Kade leaned in, I stopped myself from moving back and instead sat still and held my breath. His lips were by my ear and his hand laid on my waist. âI know,â he whispered and leaned back.
