Mason left, he went out to the others and asked me to âplease not go up on the fifth floorâ. The problem however remained that I didnât trust him right now. I didnât know wether he had my best interest in heart or his brothers and if I were to guess, I would say his brother came first and I respected that.
But that also meant that I was on my own here. There was Anna but she was doing so well, she seemed so happy and I didnât want to be the one to ruin that. The warriors would come soon and I didnât want to sit here when they did.
Just as I reached my room i could hear the chatter getting louder. Everyone was piling in through the door ready to eat and then shower.
Hopefully Kade wouldnât be coming in here and I could breath for a few minutes.
âLayla?â Too caught up in my own head I didnât notice when someone opened the door. Anna walked in with a plate of food and carefully came to the sofa.
âIs it okay if I eat in here with you?â
âOf course,â I furrowed my brows and followed her hands as she placed the plate down on the table.
âWhy would you even ask me that?â I asked when Anna sat.
âYou locked yourself away so I assumed you wanted to be alone but I miss you,â
âI never want to be alone from you,â I said and smiled.
âHow are you holding up?â She asked and I looked to the closed door before turning in my seat so i faced her.
âThereâs something I have to tell you but you have to promise that you wonât tell anyone!â
She nodded her head and placed her hands in her lap as she sat cross legged in front of me.
âThe other day when I went to the den for some privacy, the weirdest shit happened. I lit a fire and it was like it came to life, it grew and started spitting everywhere and then I heard a voice.â Annas hed fell back and her eyes narrowed as her nose scrunched.
âA voice?â
âYeah i know it sounds fucked up but itâs true. And the voice told me that I couldnât trust Kade,â
âSeriously?â I nodded my head. âDo you think maybe it was someone who wanted to ruin this for you? Maybe they werenât actually trying to help you,â
âI donât know honestly but it told me to look behind the locked doors and that doing so would prove it,â
âWhat locked doors?â She asked and a second later her eyes widened and she shook her head. âOn the fifth floor?â She gasped.
âYes,â
âNo, Layla, youâre not allowed up there and why would you want to put yourself through that? Youâll only end up hurt,â
âBut isnât it better that I know the full truth? Kade said that he didnât think about her and that he only saw a future with me but i feel our bond, Anna, itâs not as strong as it should be and definitely not as strong as theirs was. What if this can give me answers? What if this proves that heâs being honest and I can let everything go?â The desperation in me grew and I was frantic. I needed to get up there and see what existed behind those doors, it was the only way for me to move on with a clear head. That was the only thing I could do to get answers on what to do next. I needed to know my next move.
âAlright, I understand. When do we go?â She asked and looked completely serious.
âNo Iâm going,â I said.
âI moved away from my family for you and left the pack to join a new one, you canât push me out now. Weâre in this together. If you were to see something there that makes you want to go, Iâm leaving with you.â
âBut youâve really started to build a life for yourself here,â I smiled a half smile and looked at the twinkle in her eye.
âYes because of you. This place would be nothing without you, itâs us, forever.â
Shit, i could feel the tears pushing up against my eyes.
âWe need to wait until everyoneâs out of the house, or at least Kade and his brother.â
âI heard during practice that they were going to another pack to meet with the Alpha. Some important meeting or something. Itâll be Kade, Mason and the head warrior and theyâll be gone until tomorrow.â My gut sunk and I leaned back. Anna furrowed her brows and leaned her head on her shoulder.
âwhatâs wrong?â She asked softly.
âHe didnât tell me that he was leaving,â I said and scoffed. Why did i care so much? Him not telling me that he was leaving for two days actually hurt, especially after everything that had happened.
âIâm sure it doesnât mean anything and besides, that gives us time to check out the fifth floor.â Anna grabbed my hand and looked at me with determination. I nodded my head in agreeance and we started forming the plan.
We looked at the clock after having been in the room for the past few hours. It was five oâclock and Kade and Mason wouldâve left by now. Me and Anna looked at each other and carefully stuck our heads out into the hallway. The warriors would be at afternoon practice until seven and Cara would be with them.
I waved my hand and Anna came tipping on her toes behind me.
âWhat are you doing?â I whispered and chocked back a laugh.
âIâm sneaking,â she whispered with eyes so wide she looked high.
The smell of detergent and lemon filled the fifth hallway as we walked up and I saw a few water drops on the railing.
âSomeone just cleaned up here,â I said and chewed on my lip. Somehow that made it worse, knowing that they took such care of this place even today.
I shook my head and went under the rope. Anna followed behind me to the door and I jumped as I turned around and saw her less than an inch away from me. I scoffed and she took a tiny step back with a squeamish smile. My hand pressed on the handle and when it didnât budge I looked around to see so no one was coming up here. I pressed harder and heard the crack and the door slid open.
âYou broke it!â She whisper shouted at me and I shushed her.
âIâll have him send me the bill,â but that was last thing on my mind when I turned back. I imagined many things would be behind the door but nothing like this. This was worse, much worse and it was only one of the locked doors.
Anna gasped behind me and we looked around the room.
