I ran past him down the stairs.
âLayla no, wait!â The door to our room stood open and I ran inside thinking I could slam the door shut and be alone but oh boy was I wrong.
My body turned to ice and my mind was numb as I stood looking at Danielle sitting on the edge of the bed. Our bed..
âKade asked me to wait here.â I felt his presence behind me and turned to see his pale face. All the color had drained from him and I felt the fear radiating from his body.
âDanielle, you need to leave this room.â He said and stared at her.
âActually you both do.â I said and turned to face him. My nails were pressing into my palm and I was tensing my whole body to keep from falling down on the floor.
âNo problem, come on,â Danielle said and gestured for Kade to go with her.
âNo.â He spun me around and forced me to look into his eyes.
âPlease let me explain.â
âI want you to leave,â Danielle came up beside him, her fingers slowly circled his shoulder and she leaned in.
âGive her some time.â He rose his head, his eyes slowly looking to where her hand was touching him.
âLayla,â
âGo!â Danielle fell back a step and Kade straightened up.
âIâll be back. Take some time and then weâll talk, alright?â I didnât speak, not a word and I saw how scared he was but the deeper I looked the more I could feel his confusion.
âPlease, just donât go anywhere, stay here.â He was still trying to call the shots. Kade had no idea what he had brought down upon himself.
The door closed and I stared at the wooden panels.
âWeâre leavingâ Clara growled and dragged her claws against the floor of my mind.
Yes we are
~Kadeâs POV~
Fuck. I knew Iâd messed up, big time but how the fuck do I fix this shit now? After Danielle left I never in my life saw myself having a mate again but then I met Layla and everything just started forming around her. That girl became my life in less than twenty-four hours but then I found out what she was. An Emberclaw.
âKade,â that voice haunted my dreams ever since the day she left and my heart had been torn since she came back.
âEverything will be okay,â I turned around and faced her. Danielle smiled and her eyes were just as loving as I remember them when she looked into mine.
âYou canât do that anymore.â I took a step closer to her. Danielleâs face dropped and her mouth fell open.
âI wasnât-â
âYou were and Iâm telling you that it wonât work. I worked on a lot of things after you left to make sure that history would not repeat itself.â She raised her hand and cupped my cheek. Under Danielleâs touch everything else faded away.
âWhy havenât you told her?â That right there was a real good question. There was a lot I hadnât told Layla but I didnât know why.
âMaybe youâre not over what has been. Iâve spent everyday thinking about how things would be today if I hadnât left you.â She leaned closer, her lips edged toward my own and I could smell the perfume that I remember used to stick to the pillows in our room.
âBut you did.â I grabbed her hand and slowly moved it away from my face. Danielle didnât stop, she moved closer and parted her lips.
âIâm back.â But she left. I thought to myself and stepped back, my eyes narrowed on Danielle and she shrugged off the rejection and smiled.
âAre you telling me that you kept the rooms on the fifth floor exactly how we decorated them because you were sentimental? I think that you knew Iâd come back one day and that they would come to use. Iâm here now and I promise you that I wonât leave again.â Her thick blonde hair was half over her shoulder and I remember dragging my hands through it and pressing her up against the wall the first day we met.
âYou left, Danielle and there was a reason for that. Iâm with Layla-â my eyes widened.
Shit.
âLayla.â I said and ran out of the office. I bolted up the stairs when all of the images from Layla and I came flooding back. What the fuck had I done? I chose another woman over the one I loved.
Danielle being back didnât give me any right to treat Layla like shit but still I had complete ignored each request she made. In Laylaâs head I mustâve chosen Danielle over her.
I slammed the door open and held out my hand as it hit against the wall and bounced back.
The room was empty, she wasnât here.
âLayla?â
I looked in the bathroom and the closet for her clothes and some where there but most where gone. The long floral skirt she had from her mother was gone and she wouldnât go anywhere without it.
âLayla!â
âIs everything alright?â Mason came running into the room and Danielle stood there as well looking unbothered.
âMaybe itâs for the best,â she said and stepped towards me. My eyes glowed as my wolf stepped up and she stopped.
âNot another step.â I growled.
I looked at my brother and saw someone walking down the stairs behind him. She was walking slowly with her arms dangling by her sides.
I pushed past everyone and saw Anna approaching us.
âWhere is she?â I asked and looked at her lifeless eyes.
âGone and I donât blame her.â Annaâs eyes were red and puffy from crying. Her best friend had left and it was all my fault.
âKade,â Danielle came walking out. Anna growled and narrowed her eyes to slits.
âThis is your fault!â She growled and jumped at Danielle who only smiled.
I grabben Anna and held her back. She shrugged out of my hold and turned that glare on me.
âItâs your fault too and I hope that you never get to see her again!â She seethed.
I slowly turned, my face void of emotion and my mind only focused on one thing; finding where my mate was.
My eyes locked down on her and she gulped. Danielle took a small step back but kept her composure.
âWhat did you do?â I asked and she shook her head.
âI didnât-â
âLying is the last thing you want to right now, Danielle. What did you do?â
She raised her head and hardened her gaze.
âYou blocked me out from seeing your memories so Iâm guessing she never saw them either.â She cooed.
âItâs a shame you didnât trust her, you know that trust is the foundation of any health relationship. Without it, someone could come to make horrible decisions.â My hands flew out and I held her pinned up against the wall with my fingers wrapped around her throat.
âWHAT DID YOU DO?â
âI did what I was told!â I released a breath and Danielle slammed my hand away and landed on her feet.
âBut I meant what I said, Iâm here to stay. Iâm here for you, Kade.â
