My phone pinged from where it sat on the nightstand. It was the third time in the last few minutes. I looked over at Trent, who was still sound asleep. Dawn was barely breaking, the sky a bluish gray, which meant we had at least another hour before getting me back to Mystique to shower and change for work. After today, thereâd be no more back and forth. Iâd be able to relax and drink my coffee on the balcony.
I settled into the silk sheets. Whoever was trying to reach me could wait.
Ping!
âFor Christâs sake,â I mumbled. There was no sense in trying to go back to sleep. I grabbed my phone and went out to the front room so it didnât wake Trent. It rang and Pennyâs name popped up on the screen. âItâs too early,â I answered with a yawn.
âSorry. Did you see my messages?â
âNot yet. What is it?â
âYou need to look right now. Iâll wait.â
I clicked into my text messages.
Penny: Are you awake?
Penny: Wake up!
Penny: Weâve got a problem!!!!
The last message had a link attached. I clicked on it and watched in horror. âOh, my god!â
âGia? Gia? Talk to me!â
I lifted the phone to my ear. âHow?â
âIt came through my email a few minutes ago. It was sent to everyone in our office.â
Shock. I was definitely in shock. âWho? How?â
âIt came from Trent.â
I looked back to the bedroom. âBut Iâve been with him all night.â
âI donât know, girl.â
My head spun. There was no way. Iâd been played. âHow quick can you pick me up from Trentâs?â
âI can be there in ten minutes.â
âIâll meet you out front.â
I gambled my reputation, my job, and my heart⦠and I lost everything.
