In the midst of Noraâs thoughts, Henry suddenly knocked the cups off the coffee table onto the floor.
The cups shattered into pieces with a loud crash.
Henry, whose forehead veins were bulging, stood up where he was and shouted, âNora, Iâm your father! This is something that will never change! You can forget about abandoning me and get rich on your own! Youâll go to jail if you donât take care of me!â.
Then he looked at Simon again and said, âThe Andersons have to give me an explanation about this today! Either they draw up a contract for the Rest Pills dividends and give me the money immediately, or they make the change of guardian for my daughter first. Pick one!â
He sat back down on the couch.
Simon frowned.
Henry suddenly flew into a rage, his actions of banging the coffee table and smashing the cups shocking Miranda and Rachel. However, Melissa and Mrs. Anderson were still as calm and steady as ever, apparently used to such scenes.
Simon was about to say something when Noraâs icy voice rang out. âI advise you to calm down a bit. Otherwise, not only will you get no money, but youâll have to pay for these cups.â
Henry scoffed, âWhy, are you planning to become a deadbeat and not give me money? If so, I donât mind making this matter known to the public! Iâll show everyone out there how the Andersons are hoarding the Smithsâ Rest Pill.â
Nora asked lazily, âWho says the Rest Pill is my motherâs?â.
As soon as she said that, everyone looked at her in surprise.
Simon wanted to ask something, but Melissa held his hand and shook her head slightly.
Henry turned and looked at her menacingly. âWhat did you say?â
Nora looked at the cups on the floor and said, âThe Rest Pill belong to the Andersons. What does it have to do with the Smiths?â
Henry jumped to his feet. âHow can that be? It obviously belongs to your motherâ¦â
âIf my mother was the one who developed it, then why didnât she open a pharmaceutical factory all these years? Wouldnât she have made a fortune long ago?â
Nora spoke slowly and coldly, but her argument was convincing.
Both Simon and Melissa also looked at Henry doubtfully.
She was right, why was Yvette keeping the pill formula and hiding it from Henry?
Henryâs expression changed several times.
How was he supposed to know anything about the Resting Pills or whatever they were called?
The books in the study upstairs were all Yvetteâs. She had a lot of writings and drawings that had to do with a lot of different subjects. After she died, he couldnât be bothered to care for them at all, let alone know what they were.
Besides, although he and Yvette were husband and wife in name, no one knew they had ever consummated their marriage. He was more like a nominal father that Yvette had given his daughter.
Nor did he understand why Yvette had become infatuated with himâ¦.
Later, Yvette died. It should already be considered a blessing that she hadnât taken all those things as trash and thrown them away. How was he to know that they were really that valuableâ¦.
In the midst of Henryâs thoughts, Nora said, âObviously, I found the formula at the Andersonâs house.â
Henry now understood that Nora was planning to drive him away.
He immediately shouted, âNora, you unfaithful daughter! How dare you lie!â
Nora looked as calm as ever. She said, âIâm the one who found the formula, so naturally I have the last word on where I got it from. You claim that the formula belongs to the Smiths. In that case, do you have any evidence to substantiate your claim?â
Henry, â!!!â
He had immediately gone upstairs and into Yvetteâs study when he learned about the Resting Pills. Only then did he realize that it had long since been cleaned out.
All the books had been burned.
Therefore, she had no proof at all!
If he had the formula for the Resting Pill, he would have sold it to the Andersonsâ competitors a long time ago. Why did he have to come all this way to ask others for money?
Henry said angrily, âThatâs pure sophistry!â
âReally?â Nora pulled out her cell phone. âIn that case, we can only call the police. Also, let me remind you that the cups you just broke are 17th century antiques valued at hundreds of thousands of dollars. You have to pay for them.â
What he said frightened Henry. He frowned and said mischievously, âNora! Youâre blackmailing me.â
Nora picked up her phone. âSo, shall I call the police?â
Henry, â!â
He felt exactly as aggrieved and frustrated in this instant as he did how smug he was a moment ago!
Simon and Melissa had also recovered and took notice. Simon stood up and said, âThe Rest Pill is said to have been developed by Yvette, but it was actually developed by us Andersons. Mr. Smith, you have to provide proof when you come right out and take things from others. Do you have any proof? If not, what you are doing amounts to slander.â
Melissaâs voice was soft but stern. She said, âIf you continue to be disruptive, we will call the police, Mr. Smith.â
Seeing them get aggressive, Henry found himself at an immediate loss. He exchanged a glance with Wendy.
After all, the wealthy families of New York were still much classier.
Henry was scared.
He coughed and said, âIt doesnât matter who the Rest Pill belongs to, we are still a family after all. Whatâs wrong with helping my second daughter change guardians?â
She looked at Nora again and said, âYouâd rather help your cousin than your younger sister? Nora, how can you be so narrow-minded?â
Nora yawned as if she hadnât heard him.
She pointed to the door. âAre you going to leave alone, or do you want me to throw you out?â
Seeing that being aggressive and unreasonable was no longer going to work, Wendy decided to take a soft approach. She held Noraâs hand and said, âNora, I know there are problems between us, but Mom treated you very well, too. You canât ignore your sister. Blood is thicker than water, Nora. The two of you are family.â
Nora didnât bother to listen to what he said, however. Instead, he grabbed her wrist with a backhand and then, with a hard yank, threw her out the door!
Then, Nora dusted off her hands and looked at Henry. There were gigantic words clearly written in her feline eyes: âNow itâs your turn.
Henry, ââ¦â
To avoid being thrown out in such an embarrassing manner, Henry snorted and walked out himself. As he was walking past Nora, he stopped and said angrily, âI have legs, I can go by myself! But donât be so conceited, Nora. I am your father. Just because of this relationship, you can never get rid of me!â.
Noraâs gaze was icy.
She said nothing. Instead, she rattled her wrist joints loudly, causing a frightened Henry to quicken his steps. Before leaving, however, he couldnât help but say, âI wonât give up so easily!â
When the two detestable men finally left, Nora went upstairs.
As soon as she entered her bedroom, her cell phone rang.
She looked down and saw that it was Lily. When she answered, Lily said, âAnti, the DNA test results are in!â
Nora looked up. Lily laughed and asked, âAre you the one who isnât your fatherâs biological daughter or is your little sister the one who isnât?â
