The police were shocked when they heard. They asked, âWho exactly was it that called the police just now?â.
Before Melissa could speak, Wendy started crying. She said, âNow that youâre here, sir, you have to help us! Henry and I are her parents, but she refuses to acknowledge us! The Andersons have stolen our daughter from us.â
The policemen frowned and looked back at the Andersons. They asked, âWhatâs going on?â
Nora, however, did not answer them in a timely manner.
She just stared at the policeman leading the team. Dressed in a police uniform, his posture was tall and straight like an erect spear.
Nora sensed that he was not a simple person.
Although the policemen behind him also behaved very professionally, they felt much more relaxed compared to him. The difference was like that of soldiers who had gone through life and death on the battlefield with soldiers who had remained in privileged conditions.
The policeman leading the team had a clenched jaw and looked exceptionally resolute and determined.
Those behind him followed. Someone said, âCaptain Ford, I think these are family matters. A little persuasion should sufficeâ¦â
Before he could finish, however, the man he was addressing as Captain Ford scowled, causing the other policeman to immediately shut up in fright.
Seeing this, Henry immediately shouted, âSir, are oneâs children obliged to support their aged parents?â
Ford pursed his lips tightly. He spoke very little, but nevertheless calmly replied, âYes, they are.â
Henry continued. âIn that case, if the children donât fulfill their obligation to support their elderly parents, can I file a police report!â.
Ford looked at Nora again. She looked down and replied, âYes, you can.â
Henry pointed to Nora and said, âSheâs my daughter, but she refuses to acknowledge us anymore. What should we do about it, sir? Shouldnât she be brought in and ordered to undergo therapy?â
Fordâs lips were tightly pressed together and his hard countenance was full of righteousness. He didnât just listen to her one-sided assertions, instead, he looked at Nora. âWhat do you have to say?â
Nora couldnât help but find the so-called âCaptain Fordâ a little strange.
She lowered her gaze dispassionately and replied unhurriedly, âItâs only fair that children support their parents!â
Henry breathed a sigh of relief when she said that.
From the looks of her, she must have finally freaked out at the sight of the police, right?
Henry let out a self-deprecating chuckle.
Wendy also breathed a sigh of relief. After all, this was New York; they had no contacts here. To be honest, she also feared that the Andersons would use their power to intimidate them. So, she smiled and said, âYou might as well look at it this way, Nora.â
Roxanne also breathed a sigh of relief. She said, âIn that case, why donât we sit down and talk about how Miss Smith, as your daughter, should support her parents? Letâs get everything straight today, so that things can be done more conveniently later.â
Melissa and Simon didnât expect Nora to suddenly give in.
They exchanged a glance. However, they felt that since it was Noraâs choice, they should respect her decision. After all, when it came to things like family ties, those who were not the people involved could never know for sure how they felt.
Henry was still Noraâs father, after all. If he really couldnât let go of his blood ties, then it couldnât be helped.
Everyone had different ways of thinking. Even if they didnât agree with Noraâs decision, they couldnât make the decision on her behalf either. After thinking about it, Melissa merely said, âIf so, letâs talk about it inside.â
Since even Nora had given in, then they too had to change their attitude accordingly.
Henry and Wendy exchanged a glance. Then, they started walking toward the door. When they reached the door, they couldnât help but look at Melissa and say, âIf you had known this was going to happen, why bother being so aggressive and kicking us out yesterday?â
The coupleâs eyes were full of triumphalism.
However, Nora blocked them at the door the next moment. The corners of her lips curved upward and she said, âYou two canât come in.â
Henry and Wendy, â?â
Even Roxanne was dumbfounded. She asked, âWhat does this mean, Ms. Smith, didnât you just say itâs only fair that children support their parents? Are you going back on your word so fast?â
Nora looked down. She replied, âChildren should support their parents. However, why should I support someone who has no blood ties to me?â
As soon as she said that, Henryâs eyes snapped open in surprise.
Wendy was also taken aback. She, who obviously knew nothing about this, looked at Henry in disbelief. âWhatâs Nora talking about, Henry?â
Henry swallowed hard. He said, âYou worthless daughter! How could you tell such a lie so you wouldnât have to support us? You really are my daughter.â
Nora kept her eyes down. She didnât waste her breath on him. Instead, she opened the electronic file of the DNA test report on her cell phone and held it in Henryâs face!
Henry, â!â
He stared at the report in shock. Suddenly, he thought of the sharp pain he had felt in his scalp as he was leaving the Andersonsâ house the night beforeâ¦. Could that be itâ¦?
But how could it be?
Why should she have any doubts about it? However, if she hadnât done it, was there any normal person who would take a DNA test?
However, she was not to admit it at all.
She was quick to shout, âThe report is false! Itâs definitely false!â
Fake?
Noraâs lips curved into a smile and she ignored him. Instead, she looked at Roxanne and said, âRoxanne, youâre a journalist, so you must be very knowledgeable and know a lot. You must know this DNA testing lab, right?â.
ZS was the best-known DNA testing lab overseas. Its qualifications were beyond question because it was owned by Anti.
Roxanne looked at Henry immediately when she saw the labâs logo.

At the hospital.
Ian had been watching the live feed intently the whole time.
When the girl said âItâs only fair that children support their parents!â, he couldnât help but twist his lip in distaste.
After all, she was nothing more than a daughter Yvette had with someone else. Although she looked like her, she wasnât her. All in all, she still had her fatherâs cowardly nature and had actually given in at a time like this.
Ian frowned and decided to exit the live feed.
However, it was at this point that Nora said âWhy should I keep someone who has no blood ties to me?â. Thinking that this was Noraâs way of dodging the issue, he even admired her cleverness.
After all, by saying that, the focus of the incident would change from a daughter refusing to support her elderly parents, to whether or not she really was their daughter.
Like Yvette, she was very cunning and shrewd.
Ian looked down. The idea had just formed in his mind when Nora brandished the DNA test report.
The cameraman pointed the camera right at the cell phone, allowing everyone to see the screen clearly!
Nora Smith⦠She was indeed not Henryâs daughter!
Ian suddenly sat up straight, His eyes seemed to glow at this instant as he stared at the live feed on his cell phone!
Yes⦠If it wasnât Henryâs daughterâ¦.
Then who did Yvette have her with?!
Could it be
Ian flung open the quilt covering him and made a move to get out of bed. However, the nurse at the door rushed over and pressed his shoulders. âWhat are you doing, Mr. Smith?â
Ian was so agitated that his eyes were getting red and wet.
He said, âJoel! Get Joel.â
The nurse nodded immediately. âOkay, weâll get him right away, can you lie down first, please?â
Ian lay back down.
He stared at the ceiling. There was only one thought on his mind at the moment:
Could it be his daughter!
