Both Tina and Michael were stunned the moment she said that.
Tina looked at her in disbelief. âYouâre still thinking about participating when youâre not even on the list? How are you going to do that?â
She looked in the direction Nora was headed â it was Director Shawâs office â and said, âAre you planning to bother Director Shaw again, do you haveâ¦?â
When she realized that Michael was still at Noraâs side, she swallowed the words âhave you or have you no shameâ. Tina clenched her fists tightly and changed what she wanted to say. She said, â⦠Youâre putting Director Shaw on the spot if you do that. Everyone already knows the list of participants, Miss Smith. Except for Anti, no one has the right to change it. Principal Shaw is a man of principle and is well respected in the school. If he bends the rules because of you, Iâm afraid his reputation would go down the drain in his later yearsâ¦â
He looked at Michael after speaking and, sure enough, the man frowned. Then, he let out a sigh and said, âI know itâs useless no matter how much I say, but I just want everyone to be okay. Itâs best not to be so pushy about some things, Miss Smith. Iâll go first.â
He turned and left after that.
But before she reached the corner, she heard Michaelâs cold, stiff voice. He said, âThereâs no shortage of doctors who want to participate in Antiâs operation, Miss Smith. What you have to rely on is your skills, not your contacts.â
Tina lowered her gaze and walked away calmly.
Michael was the student that Director Shaw was most proud of. Moreover, they were also related in another way: Principal Shaw had already decided that Michael would be his son-in-law. Therefore, he had a lot to say, either at school or with Principal Shaw.
Her words might not work, but Michaelâs sure would.
So Nora wanted in on Antiâs operation this time? Heh, no way!
This time it would be her turn to envy her, it didnât matter!
Tina went confidently.

Michaelâs gaze was fixed on Nora.
He had always had nothing but admiration for every decision his guardian made because Director Shaw was a real doctor.
âDoctors should be benevolentâ-Director Shaw was a true reflection of these words.
Many people had given up on the child because his condition was too difficult, and there were too many uncertainties involved; after all, he was still in the growth and development phase.
However, Director Shaw had taken it on and was even willing to stake his lifeâs reputation on it.
After all, if the operation failed, it would break his record of never having failed a single operation in his life.
Michael entered Director Shawâs office immediately after speaking.
Nora followed behind him. She sat on the couch and looked around quietly after entering the office. Michael poured her a glass of water. Then he sat down across from her and said, âI know you have powerful connections, Miss Smith. That is why Mr. Shaw treats you with great respect. However, I advise you to give up joining the operation.â
Michael said in a persuasive tone, âThere are a lot of people watching the operation this time. In addition, there will also be journalists, so the operation is of great importance. The list of participants has gone through several levels of control. If someone is found to have tampered with it, Mr. Shaw will have to take responsibility.â
Then he looked at Noraâs clean hands and refreshed appearance. There didnât seem to be a hint of rigor in her.
He frowned and continued. âBesides, everyone who enters the operating room has to painstakingly memorize the finalized surgical plan, but you were asleep during the meeting just now. You didnât take note of the discussion, did you, and what can such a frivolous person like you learn even though you are in the OR?â
A surprised Nora replied, âWho says I havenât memorized anything?â
Michael became even angrier when he heard her response. He said, âYou seem to be a year or two younger than me, donât you, Miss Smith? Then you should know better than anyone that a good memory is never as good as a worn-out pen. You should at least carry a notebook and write down all the important information when you study, right? Thatâs the only way you can make sure you donât forget anything important. But what did you do instead? You were nodding off during the whole meeting.â
Nora, âDid you?â
She stared at Michaelâs notebook, which was densely packed with his writings. Then she clutched her forehead with her hand and said, âHow could I possibly not be able to memorize this information?â
Not only did she have a photographic memory, but even the act of performing an operation was already close to becoming muscle memory for her. How could something go wrong?
Michael felt a little overwhelmed by her rhetorical question. However, his expression darkened and he said, âNo need to be so smug, Miss Smith!â.
How could anyone remember so many key points of surgery?
It was impossible, unless they were like Director Shaw, who had performed countless operations and had been through a variety of experiences!
Nora, however, was puzzled. âWas she being conceited?â
Her words made Michael choke. The young woman before him was practically incorrigible. Immediately, she said angrily, âFor you to be part of Antiâs operation is an insult in itself to Anti! Anti is an almighty surgeon who has never failed in any of his operations. Heâs practically a legend of the medical profession â can you have a little awe or reverence with regard to observing his operation?â
Nora could tell from the way he was talking about Anti that he must be a diehard Anti fan.
But⦠A legend of the medical profession? An all-powerful surgeon?
Now that was a bit of a stretch.
Although he had always been thick-skinned, the corners of his lips couldnât help but spasm at that moment. âTheyâre not so divine, are they?â
However, her self-contained response caused Michael to misinterpret her. He said angrily, âWhat do you mean by that, Miss Smith? How dare you not even take Anti seriously? Are you saying you donât think Anti is so amazing? Are you disparaging Anti, or are you disparaging medical practice as a profession in and of itself?â
Nora, ââ¦â
Did he have to elevate it to such a level of ideology?
Besides, how did it come to be equivalent to medical practice as a profession in and of itself!
Noraâs expression was one of circumstance. People in the medical profession were regarding her as too big a person, which was stressing her out a bit. Although she found the situation amusing, she explained earnestly, âAnti is also human. Heâs not a god.â
He just needed more sleep than ordinary people, that was all!
Anti was someone completely out of Michaelâs league! He was also her idol in her career. There was no way he could tolerate anyone blaspheming or looking down on her.
The sight of Nora so belittling the genius doctor infuriated him. He immediately stood up and said angrily, âYou-!â
Before he could finish, the office door was pushed open and Director Shaw rushed in.
He had forcibly reduced the ten-minute consultation to only five minutes, fearing that he would accidentally belittle the big boss. However, as soon as she walked in, she saw Michael staring at her.
A startled Director Shaw immediately asked, âWhat are you doing Michael?â.
An angry Michael looked at Director Shaw and said, âI really donât understand who exactly is backing her up, Director Shaw. Sheâs just a kid, why are you being so polite to her?â
Director Shaw, â?â
He immediately stopped Michaelâs accusations, stepped forward and rebuked, âWhat kind of nonsense are you talking? You have no one to back you up.â
Her words left Michael even more perplexed. He asked, âIn that case, are you going to let her participate in Antiâs operation?â
âOf course!â
Michael was furious. He demanded, âWhy are you letting her participate in Antiâs operation if you despise her so much?â
Director Shaw couldnât help but hold his forehead. Then he looked at Michael and asked, âDo you know who she is?â
