Michael frowned.
Who could she be, wasnât she just the daughter of a wealthy family with a bit of influence?
But if that were really the case, her guardian wouldnât be speaking so solemnly? Michael looked at Nora, and then back at Principal Shaw, who asked, âWho is the person you admire most?â
Sure enough, it wasâ¦
In an instant, something seemed to click in Michaelâs head. His head turned sharply and he looked at Nora in disbelief. His eyes suddenly widened, big and round, and he swallowed hard. âAre you Antiâ¦?â
Principal Shaw sensed that his student was acting intelligent for the first time this day.
Michael was too focused on academics and had a rather rigid temper. He devoted all his passion and energy to medicine. Director Shaw could protect him while he was around, but he couldnât help but worry if Michael would be able to make a name for himself in the medical field after he retired.
From the looks of him, he didnât seem so stupid after all.
⦠Or so she thought, because the next moment, she heard Michael say, â-Youâre Antiâs first assistant, Lily?â
Director Shaw, â?â
He retracted his statement of a moment ago.
On the couch, Nora, who was about to wait for Michael to adore her, â?â
An astonished Michael exclaimed, âAre you really Lily? Gee, Iâve only heard that Antiâs first assistant was a young lady, but I didnât expect her to be so young! If you are Lily, thatâs really impressive, Miss Smith!â.
The corners of Noraâs lips twitched.
Director Shaw grimaced.
Michael gave his glasses a push, gave her a serious look and said, âIâm delighted to meet you, Miss Lily. Itâs a fortunate thing to be able to work with Anti. Do you know that all the medical students envy you the most?â
ââ¦â
Seeing that Michael seemed to want to continue, Director Shaw interrupted him with a gesture. He decided to do him a favor and let that protégé of his see and experience how disgusting and obnoxious society was, as well as teach him not to judge a book by its cover.
He said, âSheâs not Lily. Okay, you can come out for now!â
Michael, â?â
She wasnât Lily?
He had thought Anti was too busy to come, so he had sent Lily to participate in the consultation instead. But if she wasnât Lily, then why had her tutor said that?
A confused Michael frowned. However, he dutifully left the room after glancing back at Nora.
On his way out, Principal Shaw closed the door and looked at Nora helplessly. He said, âThis student of mine has a great capacity for understanding neurosurgery. You can say he is a genius. Iâm sure he will become an even better surgeon than me in the future. Itâs just that heâs a bit hard-headed. I hope you wonât hold that against him.â
Nora waved nonchalantly, not bothered in the least.
Director Shaw was relieved.
Antiâs status in the medical field was very high. A single word from her could easily negatively affect Michaelâs future.
He pulled out the personnel list, handed it to Nora, and said, âThis is the list of all the medical personnel involved in the operation. Do you think it needs to be reduced?â
Although he had already given his okay, he needed her to personally confirm the final list.
Nora gave him a couple of glances. Her gaze ran over Tinaâs name before she walked past.
Not only had Tina had the audacity to increase the popularity of the live broadcast, but it must also be because of Angela that Henry had suddenly arrived in New York out of the blue to make a fuss. It could only be Tina who had instigated Angela to do it.
That woman was too irritating. Nora wanted her to disappear from her life. In that case, she would have to give her a legitimate reason and the opportunity to do so, of course.
She smiled and kept her name there. In the end, she only added one name: Lisa Black.
Her little cousin⦠Ah, come to think of it, since she wasnât related to Henry, that meant she and Irene Smith were no longer aunt and niece either.
However, Aunt Irene had always treated her quite well, so she didnât mind maintaining their family ties even if they werenât related.
Director Shaw smiled as he watched what she was doing. âSurprisingly you are quite protective of your student.â
Nora yawned and stood up. âSheâs my student; of course I have to protect her.â
Performing operations was exhausting. If she prepared and trained Lisa, it would be great if she could operate on her behalf in the future!
If it werenât for her health, she would have liked to save a few more people.
Director Shaw was quick to say, âYou didnât ask your assistant to come back this time, so Iâve prepared one for you.â
He smiled and suggested, âHow about Michael from a moment ago.â
Nora looked at him.
Director Shaw smiled broadly and said, âIâm not trying to help my student. Rather, in terms of overall ability, he is the most suitable candidate. Besides, his admiration for Anti is endless and boundless, so he definitely wonât be a hindrance to you.â
Nora thought about the notes Michael had just written. The writings were densely packed and very earnestly worded. Also, it was obvious at a glance that the man himself was the stiff and rigid type, which made him well suited to be a doctor.
He nodded and said, âIâll let you make the decision.â
Then he turned and walked out of the office.
Unexpectedly, Michael was standing by the door. When he saw her leave, he looked at her hesitantly and asked, âWho exactly are you, Ms. Smith?â
The corners of Noraâs lips curved upward in a smile, and she said, âGuess?â
After that, she left directly without giving Michael another chance to speak.
She walked down the stairs and headed for the parking lot. As she made her way there, the students around her were leaving class one after another and a bunch of people were walking toward where she was.
Just then her cell phone rang. When Nora answered it, Cherryâs voice came from the other end. She asked, âMom, can you get someone for me?â
Nora raised her eyebrows. âWho?â
Cherry sounded very downcast. She replied, âItâs my Sponsor Grandfather. He hasnât been on Messenger for 36 hours and 7 minutes. Can you find out who it is for me? If possible, can you tell him to log on to Messenger? Our spark of friendship is about to be extinguished.â
Nora, ââ¦â
She was aware of some of the happenings on Cherryâs live broadcasts. Sponsor Grandpa and Sponsor Dad were her big fans.
However, Nora couldnât be bothered to do so. She said, âIâm sleepy and I have to sleep.â
âI already asked Pete, Mommy. Heâs not in bed right now. If you donât help me, Iâll have to ask Aunt Grandma for help!â
Nora, â!â
All she knew was to use that trick.
Her aunt was very busy abroad. In spite of that, she had helped her take care of her daughter all these years, so better not to bother her with such trivial matters.
Nora, resigned, said, âJust this once!â
âI know, I know! It wonât happen again, yes~â
Cherry hung up after giving her an excited reply.
With cell phone in hand, Nora was about to check the identity of the Grandfather Sponsor using the Messenger account Cherry had sent her, when a male student suddenly crossed her path. He apparently inadvertently bumped into her shoulder before sincerely apologizing, âIâm sorryâ¦â.
Just as he was about to slip away, a slender hand grabbed his arm. The young man wanted to break free from her grip, but realized he couldnât.
The girl may have looked thin, but she was surprisingly strong.
Nora looked down and noticed the two strands of hair he had plucked from her head taking advantage of the chaos a moment ago. A sharp glint flashed in her catlike eyes as she demanded, âWhose orders are these to take DNA samples from me!â.
Could it be⦠her biological father?
