Sworn Sister?
Justin furrowed his eyebrows.
Iris had led a reclusive life all these years. She treated strangers harshly and was like an emotionless robot.
He even remembered clearly that time when he came over as a child and saw that his family, the Evanses, had come over. However, he also saw, with his own eyes, Iris chasing them out of the village.
Mrs. Landis had stood in front of the door to prevent them from entering at that time. Her aunt of the Evanses had knelt in front of the door with her son and had cried out in tears that they must not delay her uncleâs medical treatment any longer. He needed immediate treatment, otherwise he would die.
But Iris had not even given them a glance.
She had bodyguards protecting her when she entered, so her aunt could not approach him. She stayed where she was and sobbed as she cursed, âYouâre nothing but a cold-blooded monster, Iris Hunt! Youâre a poisonous snake! Itâs because of you that the Evanses are in this state today! Yet you sit on the sidelines and do nothing! Heâs your big brother! How can you be so cruel?â
Her footsteps had stopped at that moment.
However, he had not taken the liberty of giving her money, or telling her anything, or comforting her, because by then he had understood that sometimes what one sees is not necessarily the truth.
She didnât understand the relationship between her mother and her family at all, so how could she ask her mother for anything?
In any case, the sight of her aunt scolding Iris and calling her a poisonous snake with a wild look on her face had remained in her memory.
All these years, every time she came and saw how Iris was always so cold to everyone, and heard from the bodyguards how all she did every day was tend to her flowers, and how she didnât seem to have any social interaction with anyone, she had come to think that she had no friends at all.
Now, however, she was introducing him to her Sworn Sister!
He understood the implied meaning of introducing him to his Sworn Sister: it was nothing more than his wish that the Hunts would help his Sworn Sister and take care of her. Over the years, because of various people, she had already helped many people with their business.
Adding one more person to the bill didnât matter.
However, he was quite unhappy.
His mother had never cared for him or comforted him. She had abandoned him in the icy Hunt mansion when he was only five years old and had left him to his own devices ever since.
Now, however, he cared so much about a stranger?
He was very curious-what kind of woman had managed to capture his motherâs heart?
Justinâs expression turned cold and he walked into the house.

In the living room.
Iris was looking at Pete at that moment, her beautiful eyes wide open in disbelief.
Pete had also lifted his little head and was looking at his grandmother.
Although the two rarely saw each other, Justin would bring him in from time to time for quick visits, so you could say they were the most familiar strangers.
For a while, neither spoke.
Nora glanced at Iris and then at Pete. Finding their silence rather odd, she frowned and prompted Pete. âPete?â
Although Pete was mildly autistic, he had shown good manners since he started living with her, and always greeted his relatives when he met them. This was especially the case with the Andersons. Whenever he saw Melissa he always greeted her very sweetly.
So why did she suddenly stop greeting her elders as soon as she got here?
As she hesitated, Iris asked in a trembling voice, âMiss Smith, isâ¦is that your son?â
Nora nodded. âYes.â
But when she looked at Iris again, she found that the woman suddenly had an extremely complex look on her face. She stared at Nora for a while.
In the midst of Noraâs confusion, Peteâs small, faint voice entered her ears.
âHi Grandma.â
Nora: â?â
Her head jerked sharply to the side to see Pete with a resigned look on his face, as if he had nothing left to live for. He said, âMommy, sheâ¦sheâs my grandmother.â
Apparently, because he saw that Nora didnât seem to understand what he was saying, he added, âYou know, my dadâs mom.â
Nora: ââ¦â
Iris: ââ¦â
Pete held his forehead. He knew they were both in total shock at that moment, so he said to Iris, âGrandma, can you keep this a secret from Dad for now?â
At practically the same time she spoke, someone suddenly opened the door to the living room. Mrs. Landisâ voice approached.
âCome in, Mr. Hunt!â
As Mrs. Landis was introducing Nora and Pete into the house, as she had been preoccupied leading the way, she had failed to get a clear view of Peteâs face. Immediately afterward, she had hurried out again. So, she looked at Cherry, pointed to Pete from the back and said, âYour Great Aunt has brought her little boy here. You can play together later.â
As soon as she said that, Iris stood up and looked toward the door.
Nora and Pete also instinctively turned around. For a while, the family of four stood facing each other.
ââ¦â
ââ¦â
The whole room was suddenly filled with an eerie silence.
After twenty seconds of silence, Mrs. Landis finally rubbed her eyes. She looked at Nora, then at Justin before finally looking at Pete and Cherry. Then, she looked at Iris in confusion. âHave I gotten so old maâam, are my eyes playing tricks on me, why Miss Smithâs son looks exactly like Young Master?â
Her words caused the corners of Irisâ lips to spasm.
Suddenly she realized she had done something really wrong. She coughed and said, âMrs. Landis, why donât you introduce them? I⦠I suddenly have a headache, so Iâll go upstairs and get some rest.â
After speaking, he walked toward the stairs with his left arm moving forward with his left leg, and vice versa. He apparently walked up the stairs, but after turning the corner, he immediately stopped and secretly peeked his head out from behind the wall to watch the reactions of the others.
But when she did, she found the five people downstairs staring directly at her, scaring Iris so much that she immediately withdrew her head, coughed, and went upstairs.
When Mrs. Landis saw her running away, something suddenly clicked in her head, and she immediately cursed Iris to herself. How could she leave her alone downstairs in a situation like this?
She could already feel the uncomfortable, icy atmosphere in the living room without even looking at Justin. She swallowed hard and stammered, âUm, Mr. Justin, this⦠this is Madamâs new sister.â
As soon as she said that, she felt Justin look at her.
In a brainless movement, he added, âIn other words, sheâs his tâ¦. t⦠t⦠auntâ¦â
ââ¦â
The low atmospheric pressure in the air seemed to be even lower.
Only then did Mrs. Landis realize that she had actually rubbed Justinâs nose in the problem. How could he possibly not understand by now? Miss Smith was none other than the aforementioned girlfriend of Justinâs that Tina had mentioned.
But what had she and the lady done instead? They had elevated his girlfriendâs position to one above their own.
Justin was probably secretly cursing his mother right now!
As he thought about it, an idea suddenly occurred to him. He said, âOh dear, the missus always eats some cake at this time every day. Iâll raise her someâ¦â
After saying that, she ran upstairs without taking any cake with her.
For a while, only the family of four remained in the parlor.
