Chapter 259

Mrs. Hunt paused and immediately said, “Yes, she’s marrying Justin to be Pete’s stepmother. Iris, you know stepmothers can’t be good. Back then…”

Iris interrupted her again. “Not all stepmothers in this world are like that lady!”

Mrs. Hunt was perplexed at Iris’s words. After thinking for a while, she tried to ask, “But what if she gives birth to a son for Justin again?”

“Mom, I think you’re wrong.” Iris’s voice was cold.

Mrs. Hunt was stunned.

Iris said slowly, “Being a mother and being a wife are different. A mother wants her son to be the best. Justin is getting married, and it will be good for him to have a woman who will please him and take care of him in the future. Isn’t that what you told me then?”

Mrs. Hunt clenched her jaw. “Iris, do you still blame me?”

“No.” Iris’s answer was very simple. “I don’t blame anyone. If I have to say it, I just blame my bad luck.”

No sooner had she said this than she hung up.

Mrs. Hunt looked at her phone in a daze. After a while, she sighed deeply and looked at Madame Lea. “She still hates me.”

Madame Lea looked at Madame Hunt and wanted to say something, but hesitated. In the end, she said something just right. “It’s been hard enough for her all these years.”

She had stayed at the Hunts for her son.

However, she could not love her son dearly. This was far more bitter than what Justin’s father had suffered.

Mrs. Hunt sighed when Cherry’s voice came from the doorway. “Great Grandma, I’m here~”

Mrs. Hunt immediately looked at the door with joy and saw Justin striding in with a smile. His appearance stunned her. She smiled and asked, “What are you so happy about today?”

Justin’s expression froze as he asked, “Am I?”.

Madame Lea scoffed, “He can’t even stifle the corners of his mouth. Aren’t you happy? Mr. Hunt, has anything good happened today? Tell us, so we can be glad too.”

Hearing this, Justin thought about having dinner with Nora tonight and couldn’t help but smile again.

Seeing that he was silent, Cherry raised her hand. “I’ll talk, I’ll talk! Papa had dinner with Mama tonight. That’s why daddy’s happy, isn’t he?”.

Mrs. Hunt was stunned.

She looked at Justin again.

From her impression, this grandson had always been stern. Even after signing a huge contract and making a few hundred million, he had never smiled like he did today.

It had been five years since he had smiled like that. At the time, he had just brought Pete back. After bringing him back from the brink of death, she had done a DNA test and realized that Pete really was her son.

She had hardly ever smiled like that.

Mrs. Hunt looked down and touched Cherry’s head. “Is that so? No wonder.”

Suddenly she looked at Justin and said, “Justin, I’m turning 80 in a week. We can have a party this year, can’t we?”.

Justin was stunned to hear this.

Ever since his father left and his grandfather passed away, his grandmother had been eating vegetarian food and reading Buddhism. She had never liked the cheer at birthday parties.

Every year on her birthday, the whole family would gather for a meal. They had never organized a big feast.

Why all of a sudden…?

However, he didn’t ask any more questions and agreed immediately. “All right. Let Madame Lea and Mr. Long take care of the party. I’ll prepare the guest list.”

Mrs. Hunt smiled, “Very well, invite Miss Smith as well.”

Only then did Justin realize that Mrs. Hunt’s birthday celebration was actually for Nora.

However, if Nora was coming, at least they could make their relationship public so the outside world wouldn’t have to keep guessing.

She nodded her head. “Yes.”

After chatting a while longer about the details of the birthday party, Justin left with Cherry. Madame Lea came to Madame Hunt’s side. “Mrs. Hunt, are you…trying to use this method to persuade Miss Smith to leave?”

Mrs. Hunt’s birthday banquet would undoubtedly surprise all the influential people in New York.

At that time, if people from small families could not stand such a scene, they would automatically withdraw.

However, Mrs. Hunt did not seem to hear this. Her gaze was fixed only on Justin at the door. Suddenly she said, “Madame Lea, how long has it been since we last saw Justin with such a soothing smile?”

Madame Lea was stunned.

Madame Hunt sighed. “Really, what good would it be if he could smile like that every day? Even I’ve been wavering a little just now. If that Miss Smith can make him happy by marrying her, shouldn’t I give in a little?”

Madame Lea understood his thoughts. She came to his side and clasped his shoulder. “Mrs. Hunt, you are not only Mr. Hunt’s grandmother, but you are also the Hunt matriarch.”

These words made Mrs. Hunt’s expression darken.

Yes.

She had devoted her entire life to the Hunts. Just as then…when her grandson was only five years old, she would definitely have favored her son more.

However, for the Hunts’ sake, she still cast her son out and kept her grandson with her.

She was not only a mother, but also the Hunt matriarch.

The trace of guilt she had felt disappeared instantly.

She couldn’t scorn the Hunt reputation just because Justin was happy for a moment.

The Hunt matriarch couldn’t be as humble a woman as Nora.

He took a deep breath and suddenly looked at Madame Lea. “Remember to invite that Miss Smith to my birthday.”

Madame Lea understood what he meant and nodded. “Yes.”

The next day at the Anderson’s house.

“What present have you prepared?”

When Melissa woke up in the morning and received the invitation, she had a headache. She complained to Mrs. Anderson: “This year they hold a special banquet for Mrs. Hunt’s birthday. Besides, our relationship is different now. We can’t afford not to bring valuable gifts. But what kind of treasure haven’t the Hunts seen? What can we send that will bring new meaning and show our magnanimity?”

Mrs. Anderson also rubbed her temples. “What I hate most is thinking about gifts, especially a gift for Mrs. Hunt. She’s very picky. Gosh. But why don’t you ask Nora? She might have some good ideas.”

It was almost noon. As Nora came downstairs, she heard Melissa say worriedly, “Nora, you’re finally awake! Mrs. Hunt’s birthday is in a week and she’s invited our whole family. What do you think we should get her?”

Birthday?

Nora paused for a moment before smiling. “Don’t worry, I know what to get her.”

After all, she was Pete and Cherry’s grandmother. It was only fair that she make the best of it.

Melissa was curious. “What do you plan to give her?”
