Both the Hunts and the Smiths were powerful families. If you wanted to arrest someone from either family, you needed proof. They were not allowed to use a random excuse to arrest them.
The reason they arrested Nora today was medical malpractice.
However, since they were still trying to save Old Maddy, it was too much to imprison the attending physician.
Besides, the doctor in question was even Justinâs fiancée.
The station captain was already pacing nervously from one side of the door to the other.
He had Morris in one hand and Justin in the other. Neither of them was a person he could mess with. How was he going to resolve the incident?
gⱯlnÏνð®ðsâ¤com is your escape to fiction As he thought about it, Morris said aggressively, âMy apologies, Mr. Hunt, but you canât take her away until Old Maddyâs blood report is ready.â
A blood reportâ¦
A puzzled Justin shot a glance at Nora. However, he remained as aggressive as ever as he said, âI donât care what youâre investigating, Captain Ford, Iâm here to bail out my fiancée. If you canât produce any evidence that she has committed a crime, then you have to let her go. You should think my fiancée is entitled to be released on bail! Or do you intend to deprive her of her rights as a citizen of the United States?â
His words silenced Morris.
Seeing that he could no longer say anything, Justin approached Nora and took her hand. He said, âCaptain Ford, if you have nothing more to say, we will leave.â
However, Morris stopped them as the two reached the door. He looked at Nora firmly and said, âI repeat, Miss Smith is not to leave the police station until Old Maddyâs blood report is ready!â.
Justin frowned and stepped forward.
Morris immediately warned him coolly, âMr. Hunt, you have always been a law-abiding model citizen! I am fully authorized to arrest Nora Smith â are you planning to assault the police and take her out?â
Assaulting the police and getting someone out? Both charges, no matter which, were extremely serious!
Justin scoffed, âWhat exactly is going on: you arresting my fiancée for no reason, or me getting her out of there?â
The two confronted each other. For a while, the interrogation room was filled with absolute silence.
Although they did nothing, everyone could feel how tense the two were. It was as if they were going to draw their weapons the next moment.
The captain of the police station rushed in and stepped between the two men at that moment. He said, âCaptain Ford, Mr. Hunt, calm down. Letâs calm down and talkâ¦â
He looked at Morris and said, âCaptain Ford, why donât you show him the warrantâ¦? It would be terrible if Mr. Hunt really misunderstood.â
His words took both Nora and Justin by surprise.
An arrest warrant?
If there really was an arrest warrant, then Morris would be justified in arresting Nora!
But if he had an arrest warrant, why hadnât he produced it from the beginning?
Was he trying to keep secret the case he was investigating? After all, the warrant would specify why exactly he was detaining Nora!
As the two pondered, Morris let out an âhmphâ. He stared at them for a long time before finally asking, âAre you sure you want to see the warrant?â.
Justin didnât speak. Instead, he looked at Nora.
They had both realized at that moment that Nora had been involved in some kind of conspiracy. If they refrained from looking at the warrant, behaved themselves, and waited for the results of Old Maddyâs blood tests to come back and prove his innocence, maybe he could get off the case.
But once they looked at the warrant, they would be caught up in the case.
A case that Morris had placed as an SSS Class in confidentiality would certainly be an extraordinary case.
Nora was silent for a moment before saying, âIâll look into it.â
Her mother had told her long ago that she shouldnât reveal her talent because it would get her into trouble.
From the looks of it, this could be the source of all the unknown danger and trouble she was in.
Morris frowned. After staring at her for a while, he finally put his hand in his pocket. Nora looked at him intently.
She knew that once he pulled out the arrest warrant, she would get to know all the secrets her mother had kept from her for so long.
She was very curious-what had made her mother run away from home and hide out in California back then?
