The outsiders were not aware of the conversation in the special department.
By now, Nora had already returned home to the Smiths.
Tanya and Joelâs wedding was over, everyone had already gone home. As she was worried about Karl, Tanya was feeling quite depressed. Knowing that she was not in a good mood, everyone else left early.
By the time Nora got home, her phone rang.
When she answered the call, Justinâs voice rang on the other end. âI took Cherry out for a walk. She seemed a little sad.â
Nora nodded. â⦠Oh, okay.â
She obviously sounded as lazy as usual, but the quick-witted Justin, however, sensed something. He asked, âIn a bad mood?â
âYes.â
Nora didnât like to complain, so she had always mulled everything over in silence, alone.
But at Justinâs question, she couldnât help but say, âIâve been fired from the special department.â As soon as she said that, there was a moment of silence on the phone. A brief moment later, she heard a sigh from Justin, who then said, âIf I say Iâm actually quite happy about it, would you hit me?â
Nora: â?â
Justin said pitifully, âIâm always so worried about you every time you go on a mission. Now that youâve finally been fired, you can stay home safely and spend more time with the kids.â
Nora: â?â
Why did what he was saying sound so strange to her?
The corners of her lips twitched, AND she couldnât help but feel like her roles had been reversed!
Justin let out a low chuckle, and asked, âDo I sound like a householder?â
Nora: â!â
Justin sounded very relaxed as he added, âItâs their loss for firing you. All I can say is that theyâre blind. You donât have to feel sad about it. The way I see it, theyâll be crying and begging for you to come back real soon!â.
Nora raised her eyebrows. âWhy would you say that?â
Justin laughed again. âHavenât they invited Q to join the team? Besides, if your identity as the Big Sister is discovered, Iâm sure theyâll get even more desperateâ¦â
Nora thought about what he had said for a while and suddenly felt that it was indeed so.
A smile formed on her lips, she opened the door and entered the room. She was about to speak again when she realized that Ian, who was in his wheelchair, was in the living room quietly contemplating something. Hearing her enter, Ian immediately looked at her.
Nora was a little surprised. âWere you expecting me?â
Ian nodded. Then he hesitantly suggested, âCan we have a chat?â
Nora walked over to him and slipped the phone into her pocket.
Thinking Justin would hang up, she didnât disconnect the call.
Then she pushed Ianâs wheelchair out into the garden.
The weather was beautiful that day. Tanya and Joel had picked a good day for the wedding.
The sun was shining on them, but it was neither dazzling nor intense. It felt refreshing and comfortable as the two of them walked in the shade in the garden.
Ian suddenly said, âNora, the way Karl risked arrest just to come back and give Tanyaâs hand in marriage today really touched me.â
Nora raised her eyebrows.
Ian sighed and said, âIâm so afraid I wonât be around when you get married in the future. My health has always been badâ¦â.
Nora replied tepidly, âAs long as you donât do anything foolish, it shouldnât be a problem if you live to be seventy or eighty.â
Ian sighed.
He was sick of living before. After realizing that Nora was his daughter and that Yvette had not betrayed him, he had suddenly felt even less like living because he couldnât wait to go to heaven and be reunited with her.
However, his daughter had kept him here.
But later, when he saw the effort Karl was making to build his relationship with Tanya, and when he heard what everyone was saying about Tanya, Ian suddenly understood something: girls without fathers would be bullied by others.
Even if the girl was very strong and powerful, people would sigh every time they mentioned them, commenting that it was a shame that their parents had died and that they werenât blessed enough.
They would even blame things like the girl had not been blessed enough to have her parents with her. Society demanded too much of girls.
Nora was not as tough and resilient as Joel, Quentin and Louis. Therefore, she had to do everything she could to stay alive. As long as he was alive, he would be able to support his daughter. It was at this moment that Ian completely eliminated his thoughts of suicide and not really wanting to live.
For the first time in his entire life, he felt that he was still useful to someone and that there were still people who needed him.
With that in mind, Ian smiled and said, âStill, I keep hoping that the day I see you get married will come soon. After all, no one knows for sure which would come sooner: tomorrow or an accident?â
Nora didnât refute him. Instead, she asked, âWhat you mean isâ¦â. She felt a little hopeful.
Even Justin, who was listening to the conversation through the phone Nora had slipped into her pocket, couldnât help but raise his eyebrows.
Her father-in-law had finally thought things through. Was he agreeing to her marriage?
As he wondered, he heard Ian say, âWhy donât you go on a blind date tomorrow?â
Justin: â?â
He let out a quiet sigh.
To be honest, he understood what Ian was thinking. His father-in-law must think the other Hunt branches were too unstable and too chaotic, right?
He lowered his head.
Suddenly, a sense of lethargy and world-weariness arose in him.
Truth be told, even up until now, it had been he who had kept the connection between him and Nora in this relationship all this time. He had tried it before: if he didnât send any text messages to Nora, she could ignore him for a whole day.
Therefore, he felt quite dejected at this instant. He no longer understood what was the point of trying to please his father-in-lawâ¦.
But it was at this moment that he suddenly heard Nora hesitate for a moment and ask, âDo you really disapprove of Justin? Iâve always thought you were just making things difficult for him so that you would be in a more advantageous position, but I didnât expect itâ¦.. Can you tell me why?â
Ian was not at all surprised by Noraâs question.
He immediately replied, âBecause Justin is different. Heâs too cunning and sinister, also too powerful. You wonât be able to control him.â
Nora: â?â
Ian said, âIn marriage, one always overwhelms the other. Although your status is on a par with his, Justin has a card that others canât see. A husband like him, who escapes your control, will put you in a very passive position in marriage.â
Nora: ââ¦â
Ian continued. âHe will burden you with all the objectives and goals he wants to achieve. To the point where you wonât notice anything if he takes advantage of you. Youâll be counting money for him even after heâs sold you out. Justin is that calculating and capable.â
Nora was stunned. Obviously, she hadnât expected Ian to say something like that.
She was quiet for a while before she said, âActually, Iâm pretty strong myself.â Who did her father think he was putting down?
Ian: ââ¦â
He had said so much, but unexpectedly, he had awakened the desire to win in his daughter instead? The corners of Ianâs lips twitched. âWhat I mean isâ¦â
Nora interrupted him and said, âDonât make things harder for him, after all he is the childrenâs father. The kids will be in a quandary too if you keep giving him the long face all the time. Besides⦠Do you think thereâs anyone among the men youâve been looking for whoâs better looking than him?â
Ian: â?â
He gaped. âSo the reason youâre dating him â or rather, the reason you like him â is that heâs handsome?â
Nora was even more perplexed. âCanât I?â
Of course, one needs a reason to like someone else.
If Justin didnât stand out, wasnât handsome, and didnât treat her so sincerely, why would she like him?
â⦠Y-yes, you can.â
âUh-huh.â Nora said, âEven if you canât stop us even if you disapprove of the relationship, I want to say this: thank you for letting us be together.â
Ian: â¿?â
Why was she already thanking him for letting them be together? When did this happen?
The corners of Ianâs lips tightened.
Nora yawned. âIs there anything else? If there isnât, then Iâll go upstairs and go to bed for now.â
Ian: ââ¦â
Ian could only watch helplessly as Nora left him in the garden and headed for her bedroom on the second floor of the villa. The corners of his lips couldnât help but spasm again.
Although he knew there would be bodyguards to take him back to the house, was it really okay for her to abandon him here? Ian knew it must be because he had just spoken so badly about Justin, which was why his daughter had been angry with him. Since the two had recognized each other, this was the first time his daughter had turned her back on him.
It was all that handsome boyâs fault.
The sulky Ian suddenly looked to the side and ordered, âGo and round up all the handsome men in New York! Iâm going to evaluate them one by one. I canât believe I canât find someone better looking than him!â
The mute bodyguard hiding in the shadows replied, âYes, sir.â

When Nora returned to the bedroom and took the phone out of her pocket, she saw that the call had long since been disconnected.
She didnât bother. However, as she took off her clothes and prepared to take a bath, she suddenly received a call from Hunt Manor. Thinking it was Cherry, he took the call.
But, unexpectedly, the voice of Elder Mrs. Hunt was suddenly heard on the opposite end. âItâs me, Miss Smith. I heard from Brenda that youâve been fired from the special departmentâ¦this is too much!â
Nora: â?â
Had Elderly Mrs. Hunt suddenly changed?
Why was he suddenly speaking for her?
Nora furrowed her eyebrows. Thinking sheâd better get along with the old lady, she was about to respond when the old lady said, âAs a woman, youâd better stay at home and take care of both your husband and your children. Not all women can do jobs that require as much professionalism as those in the special department. You are different from Brenda. Brenda has gone through a high-level education since she was a child, so she is more than qualified to handle jobs like yours. You, on the other hand, are different. Not only were you raised in the country, but you donât know much about the world. Itâs understandable that you would offend your team leader. In my opinion, you donât have to feel too sad about it. On the contrary, this can be a positive thing for you!â
Nora: ââ¦â
She knew it, The fox might go gray but it would never become good! She said nothing, because she discovered on her phone that she had suddenly received a few emails, and some of them were sent from the official email address of the special department.
One was sent to Q.
Another was sent to Black Cat. The content of the two emails was very similar and adopted a sincere tone. In addition, both invited her to join the special department to be of service to the United States.
The sender of both emails was also a man with the last name Johnson.
At first, Nora had not wanted to bother with him. However, Elder Mrs. Huntâs voice came over her headset. âYou are too unsociable and eccentric. Itâs understandable that others dislike youâ¦â
The corners of Noraâs lips curved upward and she said, âWho says Iâve been fired because they dislike me?â
