The Smith mansion was still some distance from the gates.
So when the police car pulled up, the security guard hastily stuck his head out of the window and was scared out of his wits. âHave they come to arrest someone again?â
Puzzled, the butler got out and politely approached the police car. Just as he was about to speak, the car window rolled down, revealing Karlâs face. He asked, âIs Tanya home?â
The butler was taken aback. âMrs. Smith has been home the whole time. Mr. Moore, have you⦠stolen a police car?â
Karl had escaped from jail and even stolen a police car?
Wasnât that too bold?
The butlerâs thoughts terrified him.

The butler: ââ¦â
âCome on, cut the crap and open the door! Iâm going in to get my daughter.â After Karlâs words, the butler swallowed hard. In the end he didnât dare stop Karl from entering, so he opened the doors.
The car swayed as Karl drove carelessly down the driveway.

In the living room.
Tanya had her eyes lowered and kept quiet.
With a cold look, Joel said, âGreat Aunt Sue, I donât find my wifeâs condition uncomfortable at all.â
Sue curved her lips in disdain and said, âYou donât have to glorify her anymore. All of New York knows by now that her father is a murderer. Thatâs pretty much cemented by now. We also have our own contacts that we can use to find out the information we want. Tanya is not invited to any of the New York circle events these days. If you donât believe me, why donât you go out and take a look for yourself? Think of all the invitations the Smiths had received when Yvonne was still around. Whoâs going to send out invitations to the Smiths now?â
He continued. âItâs not just Tanya. Even Nora too⦠Whatâs a nice girl like her doing being a coroner? Isnât it crude to deal with dead bodies every day? Itâs even taboo for a lot of people, thatâs why they donât send Nora invitations anymore either.
But there are a lot of things that require a woman to step up and take charge. Take a look at the Smiths now, how many presentable women are there?
Besides, Iâm here for a big deal this time!â
Joel narrowed his eyes and looked at Sue.
Sue said, âThereâs no land available to buy in New York lately, is there? The real estate business is declining bit by bit. The real estate part of our familyâs business hasnât produced any profit this year! But I dare say that this project of mine will undoubtedly be the most profitable in real estate.â
Joel immediately understood what project Sue was talking about.
He immediately interrupted her and said, âThe Smiths donât care about certain businesses. The real estate industry is no longer doing well. It was a wise decision for us to pull out early.â
He didnât give Sue a chance to speak, but stood up and pushed her in her place. He said, âAunt Sue, we have a lot to do, why donât you go home for the time being?â
Tanya watched the two of them.
Joel had always been a sly fox. Even if he was obviously unhappy about something, he still kept a smile on his face. He maintained a smiling disposition throughout the year and then decimated his enemies behind their backs.
He rarely got angry on the surface then.
But now he was starting to get physical. It had to be because what Sue was about to say had to do with her.
As soon as the thought formed, Sue said, âJoel, donât push me. Isnât it so the Smiths can benefit that Iâm here to talk about the project today? Are you going to deprive the Smiths of such enormous benefits just to protect your wife?â
Sue rushed over to Tanya and said, âYou know, thereâs a big project in New York that all the companies are bidding on right now. The Smiths could have easily fought for it; itâs because of you that we let this project slip through our fingers!â.
Tanya frowned and looked at Joel.
Joelâs voice grew even colder. âGreat Aunt Sue, donât force me to take action against you.â
Sue, however, lifted her chin and said, âThen why donât you? But before you do, I still have to make this clear!â
She looked directly at Tanya and said, âThis huge project was to build a courthouse on a suburban lot! And because this building is so special, they require a team of engineers with an impeccable record with the law! In fact, the Smiths have never broken the law before, even after being in business for so many years! But now we have a daughter-in-law with a murderer for a father! Youâve completely ruined the Smithsâ reputation! We canât bid on the project anymore just because of you.â
Tanya bit her lip at this.
As for Joel, he immediately shouted, âWhereâs the housekeeper!â.
Lucy walked into the room and said, âIâm here.â
âShow Aunt Sue out!â
âYes, sir.â
Lucy took a step forward as she spoke. She grasped Sueâs hand at once and began to drag her toward the door.
However, Sue scoffed and said, âJoel, do you think this problem will go away if you pull me out and keep me from talking? Even if you donât say anything about it, you both should know that it is because of your father that we have been banned from the project. Ha, we Smiths have never broken the law so blatantly in all these years, but this time weâve totally embarrassed ourselves! Are you still going to defend a wife like that?â To be honest, building the courthouse wouldnât bring much benefit.
However, it was a way to show off oneâs corporate reputation in the country!
In fact, it was very unpleasant that the Smithsâ engineering team didnât even qualify to bid on the project.
Howeverâ¦
Joel refuted her. âWe might not be able to win the project even if we bid on it no matter what! How can you blame it all on Tanya?â.
Sue scoffed, âWith what everyone else is saying, the Smiths have been completely embarrassed, and yet you still defend her! Not only is a matriarch like her incapable of doing anything for the Smiths, but sheâs even giving us a lot of trouble! Joel, I told you, I came here with a project! As long as you let me be the Smith matriarch above ground, I can convince the Department of Housing and Urban Development to give the Smiths a chance to bid on it! It doesnât matter if we make money or not; what matters is regaining the reputation weâve lost!â
Joel frowned. He was about to speak when police sirens wailed from the doorway.
Sueâs eyes immediately lit up at the sound of the police sirens. She pointed to Tanya and said excitedly, âDo you hear that? The police are here again! Have we fallen out with the police? Tanyaâs father must have gotten into trouble again, theyâre already here to arrest Tanya!â
As soon as he said that, a wild and rude voice came from the door. âWho would dare arrest my daughter!â
Hearing this, those present looked one after another and saw Karl striding in wearing a police uniform!
