Chapter 821

Nora1,077 words~6 min read

Many people had already surrounded the villa where Nora lived.

Everyone was outside and pointing fingers at them.

Mrs. Long had her hands on her hips as she condemned her, “Like I said, these people haven’t even been here a day and they’ve already started stealing. Definitely not a good person. We shouldn’t let a person like that stay in a district like ours.”

Someone next to her advised, “Mrs. Long, you’ve been nagging her for a long time. The young lady is so pretty, she doesn’t look like a thief. Tell me, what has she stolen?”

Mrs. Long immediately said, “She stole my scallion cake!”

As soon as she said this, everyone looked at the scallion cake in Cherry’s hand. She had already eaten half of the cake and was now holding the cake and looking at Mrs. Long with eyes as black as grapes.

Hearing this, Cherry took another bite of the scallion cake. Her mouth was full, which made her look especially pretty.

Someone next to her said, “Mrs. Long, isn’t it just a cake? Can’t you leave it at that? We are all neighbors and the child is very small. She might get hungry if she eats her cake.”

Mrs. Long scoffed, “What do you know? She’s already spoiled at her young age. She’s a crooked stick! Do you know what her father does? He’s a worker. Do you know what her mother does for a living? She’s so young and doesn’t seem like a proper mother at all! I don’t think she’s even been to school and has only fooled around with one man. She gave birth to these three little bastards! She gave birth early, but she didn’t raise them right. If we let them stay here, they’ll become the stinkbugs of our district sooner or later!”

With that, everyone looked at Cherry with confusion.

However, Cherry took another bite of cake. Her clear eyes stared at Mrs. Long and she asked, “Grandma, who’s a stink bug?”

Mrs. Long pointed at her immediately. “You are, of course!”

“Oh.” Cherry smiled and started eating again.

The scallion cake was really delicious!

She ate two bites and the crowd burst into laughter. Before Mrs. Long could understand what was going on, someone next to her laughed. “The little girl is making fun of you.”

Mrs. Long: “!”

Where do children today learn to tease like that from?

Mrs. Long didn’t react for a moment.

Cherry shrugged her shoulders. She had learned it from her mother the last time. Although it was an old trick, it was very effective at making others angry!

The vicious old woman was so angry that her chest heaved. Cherry smiled and continued eating her scallion cake.

Mrs. Long took several deep breaths. Her fingers were trembling. “Child, you have a sharp tongue. I can tell at a glance that you’re not going to be a good person when you grow up. I think you’re going to be like your mother. You’re so young you haven’t learned to be good. You will live only with bad men.”

Cherry didn’t understand his words but her eyes lit up. “Do you think I’ll be like my mom?”

Mom was so strong, how nice it would be if I were like her!

For that, she smiled. “Thank you!”

Mrs. Long was really furious. “Look, look. Her skin is so thick. I scolded her and she thanked me! What right does a person like her have to stay with us?”

“All right, all right.” Some couldn’t stand it any longer and stepped forward. “The girl seems to be fine. She doesn’t look like she comes from a bad family at all. Mrs. Long, you must have some misunderstanding. Besides, if she came from a bad family, could she afford to rent a house here?”

Although houses here were cheap, not everyone could rent them.

Mrs. Long immediately said, “Hey, that’s not right. Today he stole my family’s scallion cake. Tomorrow he might steal your watch. Do we have to watch out for thieves every day if we stay here? Are you willing to allow it?”

These words made everyone around shut their mouths.

No matter who it was, they did not want to be neighbors with a thief.

Therefore, they all looked at Cherry and said, “Young lady, I think you should apologize to Mrs. Long! Isn’t it just a scallion cake? Your parents will surely be able to pay for it. Apologize well and repent. We won’t pursue the matter any further.”

Mrs. Long also scoffed. “Eh, apologize? You can’t apologize for this, why don’t we call the police, we need to call the police to teach this brat a lesson!”

“Don’t call the police!”

“That’s right. It’s just a minor matter. We’re all neighbors, why do you have to do this?”

“The child is only five years old. What does she know? Mrs. Long, don’t worry too much…”

Hearing this, the others started trying to persuade her.

Only then did Mrs. Long look at Cherry. “Very well, then let her kneel down and apologize to me! Let her kneel before me to apologize.”

Kneel down and apologize?

That was too humiliating.

Even though everyone felt that Mrs. Long was being too over the top, they still looked at Cherry. Someone advised, “Young lady, get on your knees! Get on your knees.”

Cherry pursed her lips. “I’m not going to do that!”

She had never knelt before anyone.

Her grandparents couldn’t stand her kneeling, and her mother was protective of her, too. As for the grandfather and great-grandmother she met when she returned to New York, they all wished they could treat her right. How could they force her to kneel?

Cherry said, “I didn’t do anything wrong. I didn’t steal your cake.”

“You didn’t steal it?” Mrs. Long scoffed. “Are you still lying even now? If you didn’t steal my cake then why is my cake in your hand?”

Cherry ate another bite of onion pancake. “You gave this to me!”

Everyone was surprised and looked at Mrs. Long.

However, Mrs. Long straightened her back and sneered. “I gave it to you? And then I accused you of stealing my family’s cakes? You’re so funny, don’t I have nothing better to do than bully a girl like you? I wasn’t planning to bother because you stole one of my cakes, but now you’re even lying. You’re hopeless.
