Chapter 853

Behind Brenda was Aaron. When he heard Epson, he said, “It is for your own good that we tell you to leave. Nighttime is the peak period for murders. Also, this particular killer has a strange pattern. Once he starts, he kills one person a day until he has killed enough. His targets this time are people related to biomedicine, like you. You are our main targets for protection.”

Epson scoffed. “That’s a nice way of putting it, but why do we have to stop while the lab next door doesn’t?”

Aaron was simply speechless. “I’ve already told you that your targets are people involved in biomedicine, especially professors specializing in genetics. The professor next door doesn’t do biomedicine, so he’ll be fine, of course!”

Epson didn’t believe him, however. “The way I see it, all those assassins and such are things that have been made up, aren’t they? I haven’t heard of anyone dying. Besides, everything’s been pretty normal at school today. Captain Brenda, I just insulted Anti, that’s all, isn’t it? I know that you and Anti are Americans and you may even be his relative, so you don’t want me to continue with my project. Ha, you think I’m not going to know what your objective is?”.

Brenda: “?”

She gaped. “What’s my goal, how come I don’t know anything about it?”

Epson said, “I have already asked my friends in the United States. Professor Anti has been doing experimental research recently and her research is on genetics. Also, she hasn’t shown up for several days. Has she heard about my progress? Is that why she’s buried in her research and trying to finish her project before me? And you? You made up a story about a murderer to annoy me and delay my progress. I’m not stupid, I’ve already figured out your conspiracy against me!”

Brenda: “!?”

Nora, who had just arrived: “???”

Whatever it was, she had to come up with an explanation as to why she had suddenly disappeared from the United States. So, she had told Lily to say that she was conducting research and therefore would not be receiving guests. However, she had not expected Epson to make up such a story in her head.

To be honest, before coming to Staav University, she didn’t even know who Epson was.

The corners of her lips tightened. Being seen as an imaginary enemy or whatever was really irritating.

Brenda replied, “My sister-in-law is not conducting any research. You heard wrong.”

“Sister-in-law? I see, So you and Anti have ties to each other! No wonder you do so much for her. You think I’m going to believe that she’s not doing research just because you say so? Either way, my lab must not stop her progress tonight!”

Epson simply refused to listen. Brenda took a deep breath. “I am now in charge of campus security, so everyone must comply with my orders! If you refuse to obey orders, don’t blame me for taking action against you!”

“And how are you going to do that?”

Epson scoffed, “Save that for the fearful, I won’t be fooled. In any case, you don’t have to say anything else. My lab will not stop your progress tonight.”

After speaking, he looked at the students. “Whoever wants to leave early, feel free to do so! I will not stop them.”

As soon as he said that, the students looked at the police and then at Epson. Then, one by one, they stood beside him.

“I’m not leaving, professor.”

“Neither am I. I want to finish this quickly for the professor. We’re one step away from success!”

“Yes, we’ve already worked overtime for half a month. After working so long, we have only two days of work left. How can we give up now? We must continue with the experiments.”

“We have the freedom to do whatever we want! You have no right to interfere.”

“Yes, that’s right! If the police force us to comply with orders and prevent us from carrying out our experiments, then I will report them to their superiors!”

She looked at the ignorant people in front of her, so angry she was about to pop a vein or two.

Brenda: “!!!”

Finally, she looked at Epson, grimaced and said, “Fine, you can stay if you want, but please sign this liability waiver for not obeying our instructions. Otherwise, I will have to take full responsibility for any accidents.”

She didn’t care that some people wanted to play with their lives.

She was a member of Interpol. She was only responsible for Barbarian’s arrest.

She wasn’t going to pay any more attention to these idiots.

Brenda had never claimed to be a messiah. After solving so many global cases over the years, she had already seen through a lot of mundane things in life.

Hearing what she said, Epson scoffed. “Do you think we’re going to be fooled if you use that stuff to scare us? There are a lot of biomedical professors, I’m just a nobody among them. Even if the killer or whatever really exists, he won’t come after me. Besides, you’re the ones who keep bringing up the serial killer, we’ve never seen it. What’s the problem with signing the agreement? I’ll sign it! I’ll take responsibility for my own life.”

After speaking, Epson stepped forward and signed the liability waiver Brenda handed him.

Next, Brenda looked at the students. “You must take responsibility for your lives, too!”

Epson scoffed. “Of course!”

“Okay.”

Brenda picked up the papers again. Out of professional courtesy, she reminded him once again, “We’ll be patrolling nearby. At any time, if you see anyone suspicious, be sure to yell out. We’ll be right over.”

Epson’s response, however, was, “Don’t worry, we won’t give you a chance to enter the lab to look for anything! You can forget about stealing the results of my experiments for Anti.”

Brenda: “????”
