A watchful Barbarian kept his eyes open.
In the United States, he had opened a safe only to end up finding a bomb inside.
In the United States, he had nearly died.
Instead of rushing towards it recklessly, this time he opened it carefully and looked through the filing cabinet cautiously.
The filing cabinet was even more complex and secure than the inside of the bank, which showed how rich and solid the history and foundation of Staav University was. His level of protection for these unpublished intellectual properties was at its highest.
There were no bombs or weapons hidden inside, probably to prevent students from being injured if they accidentally opened it.
However, this made Barbarian feel that everything had come to him too easily.
By this time, Nora had already circled the lab until she reached a window. The windows in this place were bulletproof glass and were not easy to open.
They were only there to let light into the room. There was no way to get in by tampering with the windows.
Nora squatted quietly.
The glass was originally supposed to be a means of protection for the archives, but it had become a barrier. She could only peer inside, hoping to verify the authenticity of file #004.
He watched Barbarian cautiously pull a box out of the filing cabinet. When he opened it and looked inside, his eyes lit up.
He carefully stuffed the box into a bag. Then, he pulled out some bandages and tied them around it to keep the contents from falling out when he left the archives later.
He wrapped it with the bandages almost a dozen times before tossing the tape aside.
Then he looked at Epson coolly.
Epson ached all over. He had been beaten up and, as they approached, he was so terrified that he had gone limp. He couldnât even stand.
Seeing that he had found what he was looking for, Epson asked, âYouâve got what you want, can I go?â
Barbarian, however, narrowed his eyes and sneered dismissively. The man looked like someone who rarely spoke, his voice as cold and ruthless as ever as he replied, âHow am I supposed to leave without a hostage?â
You could only enter and exit the archives through the door; everything else was locked tight. It was true that you could only leave through the doorâ¦.
After Barbarian got what he wanted, he grabbed Epson and headed for the exit.
When they reached the door, Barbarian put his gun against Epsonâs temple and made him stand in front of it. Only then did he open the door and walk out.
As soon as he did, he saw Brenda leading a group of SWAT agents nearby. She eyed him warily and said, âBarbarian, youâd better put down your weapon and surrender. Do you really think you can fight your way through all of us?â
Hearing this, Barbarian narrowed his eyes and lifted Epson slightly again. âIf you want him dead, then come and get me!â
His words made Brendaâs eyebrows draw together.
Epson looked at Brenda. By then, her face was already covered with tears.
Next to Brenda, Aaron gritted his teeth and said, âCaptain Brenda, who cares about your hostage? We had already told that guy that he was dangerous, and he still insisted on carrying out his experiments. Anyway, heâs already signed the hold harmless agreement, so even if he dies, he has nothing to do with us. Letâs go.â
Aaron had been holding back his desire to avenge his comrade-in-arms for a long time!
Barbarianâs whereabouts were simply too difficult to find out.
Even now, even though the two parties were so close, Barbarian was still dressed neatly and with his body fully covered. Even at this moment, they still didnât know what he really looked like!
Now that they had finally found clues about Barbarian after tracking him for so long, how could they give up?
Hearing what Aaron said, Epson was filled with remorse. Tears streamed down his face as he sobbed. âI was wrong, I really was. Captain Brenda, I should have trusted youâ¦Iâm the one who caused this whole situation today, itâs all my faultâ¦â
Immediately after speaking, Epson suddenly lowered his head and bit down hard on Barbarianâs hand.
He knew that the SWAT agents didnât care if he lived or died!
There was no point in complaining about them either. The only thing he could do now was to seek escape for himself.
Indeed, the instant he suddenly lowered his head, the pain caused Barbarian to push him away.
As the two of them were at the door of the archives, Babrbarianâs push caused Epson to re-enter the archives. Epson, who had finally regained his freedom of movement, was so terrified that he ran straight for the archives. As he did so, he even looked for cover.
âCome on!â
Brendaâs eyes immediately lit up as she saw that Epson was temporarily out of danger. She shouted, âCharge!â
Then she paused for barely a second before adding, âFinish him off, dead or alive!â
Sometimes, in order to take the fugitive alive, the police acted with scruples, but in Barbarianâs case? They had wanted him dead for a long time!
The very instant he said that, everyone raised their submachine guns and started spraying Barbarian with bullets!
This was what came into Noraâs view after circling the archives and getting closer.
The first floor was almost surrounded by the SWAT team and they had even prepared large caliber weapons. There was probably no escape for Barbarian this time.
However, he feared that the V16 in Barbarianâs possession would end up damaged.
He wanted to go ahead and stop Brendaâs shooting spree, but it seemed that Barbarian had foreseen all this.
Since he had already decided to come to the school to steal the V16 and had even put the SWAT team on alert some time ago, how could he come straight in such a stupid way? Clearly he was prepared. When Epson fled, he didnât immediately try to shoot him. Instead, he pulled out a smoke bomb and threw it on the ground.
As a result, there was a cloud of smoke in front of the SWAT team when Brenda gave her orders. Without a target, everyone could only recklessly fire the area with bullets.
âCharge!â
Brenda took the lead and rushed forward, but suddenly she heard Epsonâs shout.
She did not even spare Epson a glance. After breaking through the smoke, she caught a flash of Barbarian darting toward the fire escape on the side.
Brenda immediately grabbed her walkie-talkie. âClose the fire exits on all floors and launch a floor search!â
As long as Barbarian was still in the building, he couldnât escape.
Brenda wasnât anxious â she wasnât to disperse her forces, so she would keep her men with her and go after him one step at a time!
When Nora saw Barbarian rushing down the hallway and Brenda also entering with a group of SWAT agents, without hesitation, she ran to the elevator nearby and immediately pressed the button for the top floor.
Brenda and company chased Barbarian upward from the bottom.
Also, as he ran to the elevator, he grabbed his phone and activated the buildingâs security system, instantly blocking all emergency exits leading to the fire escape!
By making use of Staav Universityâs security system, he saved Brenda and the other SWAT agents a lot of trouble.
With this, Barbarian could only go up and down the fire escape. He could not enter the main building through the fire escape emergency exits.
Because⦠he had locked them all.
Nora then entered the elevator and pressed the button for the top floor.
When the elevator door slowly closed, she saw that the archives were on fire. However, with the help of the police to put it out, Epson would only suffer burns at best. His life would not be in danger.
He slowly looked down and waited to welcome his V16.
