Barbarian looked at the Queen.
Time flew by. More than ten years had passed.
The Queen had aged and now had fine lines at the corners of her eyes. However, her blue eyes had never changed.
Barbarian swallowed saliva.
The Queen spoke again. âBarbarian, say something. Iâll believe anything you say.â
But Barbarian couldnât.
He had been through so much since he was a child. He had been in the basement since he was born and injected with genetic serums every now and thenâ¦.
The genetic body modification serum had hurt a lot⦠he didnât remember the pain he felt as a baby, but he remembered all the pain he felt after he turned five.
Each injection of genetic serum had felt like it melted his flesh and rebuilt it. No one could understand what that bone-chipping pain felt like.
At the time, Barbarian didnât understand.
Because that was life until the day he was first taken out to kill when he was ten years old. His powerful body and physical abilities had amazed others.
It was also then that Barbarian discovered that the people outside led a very blissful and happy life.
A ten-year-old boy went to school, behaved like a spoiled child in his parentsâ arms and was pampered by his parents.
Hatred had slowly built up in Barbarianâs heart at that time.
All that Barbarian had towards the world was malice. All the beauty in the world had never been a part of his life, so what did it matter even if he destroyed the world?
Therefore, he had never shown any mercy when he killed. In fact, he only felt happy when he killed; when he saw his victims trembling like leaves and begging for mercy on their knees.
âSee, so what if he never went to school? So what if he had been abused as a child?â
The way people were terrified in front of him and the way they soiled themselves in their last moments seemed even more unseemly than he did back then.
Within this sick mentality of his, the only person who still allowed him to retain a trace of reason within him was his Princess. Whenever he took a leave of absence to go out and kill, the Princess never asked him what he intended to do. She always happily let him go. And every time he came back after killing someone, the Princess would look at him with a mocking look.
The Princess had told him that it was time for him to find a girlfriend.
But he didnât know what kind of person he should look for a girlfriend.
It was at that moment that Spacey contacted him.
He and Spacey were alike.
They had both grown up in the basement. Therefore, he had thought at the time that Spacey should be his girlfriend. The two then teamed up and began to fight together for V16.
Barbarian never felt he had done anything wrong.
However, he realized that he couldnât say even a word at that moment, as he faced the Queenâs interrogation.
Because he did not want to see the disappointment in the Queenâs eyes. She just liked how the Queen sang her praises every time she saw her progress in combat training.
Therefore, even though he had opened his mouth, he didnât know how to answer her.
However, the Queen could tell by his reaction, and the look in his eyes gradually turned solemnâ¦.
She looked at Barbarian and suddenly lowered her gaze. She asked, âHave you⦠ever killed a citizen of the United Kingdom?â
He was not someone with overflowing compassion. In her eyes, only the inhabitants of the United Kingdom were her subjects. She left the responsibility of handling the people of the rest of the countries to the international authorities; they were not part of her responsibilities.
But if Barbarian had killed citizens of the United Kingdom? The Queen could not leave him alone!
When Barbarian heard her, he opened his mouth again, even though he didnât know what to sayâ¦.
He had.
Once, after going on a killing spree outside, he happened to meet a Royal Guard who saw him covered in blood as he was returning to the palace. To cover up his misdeeds, he had killed him.
Seeing his silence, the light in the Queenâs eyes dimmed even more: she understood his answer.
Slowly she lowered her gazeâ¦
At that moment, Spaceyâs voice was suddenly heard from the room. âYou see that, Barbarian, the Queenâs kindness to you isnât unconditional either! Once you cross her boundaries, sheâd kill you anyway! Iâm the only one in this world whoâs like you! So hurry up and kill them and save me! I can synthesize the other V16 of my blood for you!â
Spacey was doing all this because she was worried that Barbarian would defect at the last moment, So she was trying to build a Plan B for herself!
But Barbarian didnât seem to have listened to her at all. He stared at the Queen in stunned silence. Only one thought was going through her head: âSheâs disappointed in me.â He felt like his world was about to collapse around him.
At the sight of it, Spacey bit his lip: he knew he could no longer count on Barbarian. He looked directly at Nora again and said, âItâs still the same: even if you arrest me, you have to feed me well and keep me in a good mood! If not, Iâll kill myself. If I die, you can forget about getting V16 again.â
But even after speaking, he saw no reaction from Nora and the others.
Nora, in particular, was remarkably calm. Spacey wanted to speak again, but an intense drowsiness suddenly came over her. She shook her head, suddenly finding herself unsteady on her feet.
She wobbled slightly, whereupon she heard an impassive Nora say, âOh, I forgot to tell you something. The substance inside those vials is not V16, but two doses of sleeping pills.â
Spacey: â?â
His eyes suddenly widened. It was then that he finally realized something.
He was right. A lot of traps and mechanisms had been set up in this place. It was obvious that they had set it up to trap Barbarian, so how could it be possible that the real V16 was here?
As soon as the thought formed, Spaceyâs eyes closed and he blacked out. She fell to the floor with a thud.
But no one looked at her. Instead, they turned to look at Barbarian.
Barbarian had killed Brendaâs best friendâ¦seeing him stunned, Brenda could no longer restrain herself. Suddenly, she brandished her gun and fired at Barbarian.
Bang!
The moment the shot rang out, Barbarianâs sixth sense allowed his body to react faster than his brain. He spun on the spot and dodged Brendaâs bullet.
The next moment, Barbarian broke through the glass window, fleeing through it.
Shots rang out from the Interpol agents lurking on the first floor. Brenda also took off in pursuit.
Nora and Justin exchanged a glance. The pair descended the stairs in unison but saw that he had already escaped. Brenda, who was tapping her foot in frustration, cursed, âShit!â
Faced with an expert like him, unless they carried out a full-scale bombing of the Schmidt property, they were going to have a very hard time catching him. The traps had originally been set for Barbarian⦠but unfortunately, he hadnât been the one to set it off. Instead, they only caught a weak, though relatively intelligent, Spacey.
In the end, all Brenda could do was stop Spacey.
As Nora watched the officers carry the unconscious Spacey to the police car, she asked, âWhatâs going to happen to him?â
Brenda replied, âThe death sentence.â
Nora was shocked.
Brenda sighed. She said, âWeâve already investigated her. She is different from Barbarian. Barbarian has been brainwashed to kill, but she, on the other hand, was born that way. Her evolution involves brain enhancements. No one taught her to kill, but after escaping the basement and being adopted by her first foster family, she deliberately seduced her adoptive father, causing a conflict between her adoptive parents. In the end, the two were unable to resolve their conflict, and even physically injured her. She then set a trap to kill them both. Unfortunately, after killing her mother, her father came to his senses.
He wanted to shoot her dead to avenge his wife, but the police burst in at that moment.
-the security guard had reported the father for raping her. When they entered, they saw that her clothes were in disarray and that the man intended to shoot and kill her. The police tried to dissuade him, but it was useless, so they could only shoot and kill himâ¦â
Nora was stunned by the story.
The Queen was also fascinated by the story. She commented in amazement, âThat womanâs thoughts are so unfathomable!â.
Brenda nodded. âAt that time, everyone believed her story to be the truth and erased the traces that she had been adopted. Later, she was adopted by another family. But in the end, her adoptive parents died again within half a year. Everyone lamented her bad luck and some even said things like she was too beautiful and had already grown up, so it was no wonder her adoptive parents wanted something from her, etc. So after the second incident, she deliberately made herself dirty and messy, knowing that everyone thought she had suffered trauma during the first two incidents. It was only after the third time that she killed her adoptive parentsâ¦. That he finally came to our attention! It is safe to say that we now have both witnesses and material evidence. Not only has she killed six people in a row, but she is also involved in a major case like the transnational biogenetic experiment. She will not be able to escape the death penalty.â
Everyone nodded.
After Brenda left with Spacey, the dejected Queen also left with Princess Lucy.
Barbarianâs betrayalâ¦made her feel terrible.
Only Nora, Justin and the rest remained at the Schmidt home.
Watching the Queenâs car leave, Nora suddenly asked, âIsnât she in love with you? Why does it look like sheâs in love with Barbarian instead?â
Justin, suddenly sensing impending doom, thought for a moment and cautiously replied, ââ¦. I donât know.â
Nora didnât press further either. Instead, she changed the subject and asked, âHow about Barbarianâs follow-up?â.
Justin let out a sigh of relief and replied, âTheyâre still tracking him.â
When Barbarian escaped, in addition to the police, the Schmidtsâ security agents also went after him. Despite this, he had escaped, although he was shot in the end.
Justinâs men were also after him.
Nora nodded.
Justin said, âDonât worry, Iâll never let Barbarian fight Xander for the gene serum!â.
They were not saints.
There were only two gene serums. They couldnât just give them to anyone.
Nora nodded.
âDad!â
Now that there were no strangers around, Cherry let out a cry of excitement and ran to him.
Justin bent down and picked her up. In his soft, low voice, he asked, âDid you miss me?â
âOf course! Cherry thinks about Dad every day.â
Pete and Xander came over as well.
The family of five was happily reunited.
In the distance, as Queenie watched them, a hint of a happy smile appeared at the corners of her lips.
Off to the side, John suggested, âWhy donât you join them, maâam.â
But Queenie shook her head and replied, âIâm tired. Iâll let the family of five gather instead. An old lady like me shouldnât bother them.â
John looked at her dubiously before finally saying quietly, âSheâs only thirtyâ¦â
As soon as he spoke, Queenieâs cold gaze suddenly swept over him.
John shut his mouth immediately. âI spoke out of turn, maâam.â
Queenie lowered her gaze and stepped into the parlor. She nonchalantly picked up a glass of red wine from the table and went upstairs swirling the wine in the glass. This time, however, she did not enter the bedroom, but looked into the long-sealed room.
He looked down. Suddenly, he stepped forward and opened the door.
