Nora didnât say anything when she heard Trueman.
She just kept looking straight ahead as she asked, âWhereâs Xander?â.
She didnât know how Trueman would react to Old Kingâs death. Under the uncertain circumstances, he decided not to say anything for the time being.
Trueman snorted coldly. âHeâs waiting for us later!â
He asked no more questions, but narrowed his eyes.
Two hours later, Trueman suddenly said, âStop.â
Nora stopped the car and looked around.
There was only desert and nothing else around. She didnât know why Trueman wanted to stop here. She had just begun to wonder when Trueman opened the car door, got out and started to drive away.
Nora also got out of the car and followed him.
âWhy are you following me?â
Truemanâs voice was sharp and piercing as he sneered and said, âIâm going to pee. Do you want to join me?â
Nora: â????â
She frowned and walked back to the car.
He reached into a pocket of his pants. There she had a fingernail-sized transmitter there that she could use to contact the outside world once she flicked the switch.
Just as she was about to flip the switch, she saw Trueman standing by the car window, looking at her with a smile.
Nora: ââ¦â
âGet out.â
Nora got out of the car. Trueman pulled out a scanner he had taken from somewhere and started scanning her entire body. As a resultâ¦
When he scanned her hair, the scanner beeped.
Trueman frowned. âGet it out!â
Nora held up her hands. âGet what out?â
Trueman looked at her suspiciously and continued scanning downward. The scanner kept beeping even when it reached her neck, never once stopping.
Trueman scoffed.
Nora sighed. âIâm here to save Xander, why would I bring anything with me? Your scanner must be broken.â
Trueman didnât fall for the trap.
He kept scanning downward. In the end, the scanner kept beeping from neck to arms, waist, abdomen and all the way down to thighs and shoes.
Trueman: ââ¦â
Nora held out her hands again. âSee, itâs really broken.â
Trueman thought for a while. Suddenly, he scanned himself with the scanner, but made no sound. He looked at Nora coldly and said, âHand them over yourself or I wonât take you to Xander!â.
Nora: ââ¦â
She let out a silent sigh. Then, she reached into her hair , fumbled and pulled out a steel cable as thin as a strand of hair. It was obviously used to open doors.
After pulling it out, Trueman scanned his hair again with the scanner. Sure enough, it no longer beeped.
He continued scanning downward again. When he reached Noraâs face, the scanner beeped again.
Nora said expressionlessly, âMy nose is fake. There are metal brackets inside. Thatâs why it beeps.â
But Trueman merely looked at her with derision. âYou think I just met you? You probably donât know it, but I know you better than you know yourself.â
A resigned Nora could only pull a white object resembling a wisdom tooth out of the depths of her mouth. When the scanner scanned the object, it did indeed start beeping. Trueman asked, âWhat is this, my little maid?â.
âPoison,â Nora replied.
Trueman continued scanning downward. When he reached her collarbones, he beeped again.
This time, without waiting for Trueman to ask, Nora reached up, fumbled, and again pulled out a very fine thread.
The thread was the same color as her skin. Even if one were to look at her with a magnifying glass, one could not tell that she had a thread hidden in her collarbone.
Nora coughed and explained, âItâs a kite thread.â
Kite strings were very strong, but even such thin strings could sometimes kill. They were often used as weapons in assassinations. Also, most metal scanners would not detect them. The one Trueman had actually used was capable of detecting everything.
After thatâ¦
Nora removed the inconspicuous false fingernails from her fingers. The fake nails on her ten fingers were all either weapons or poisonâ¦.
Nora pulled out a flexible sword from her waist. The flexible sword was of such high quality that Trueman thought it was a belt when he looked at itâ¦..
Nora pulled out the transmitter she was planning to use a moment agoâ¦.
Nora removed the wire that wrapped around her thighâ¦.
Nora pulled out a dagger that she kept close to herself in her calfâ¦.
Nora took off her shoes, which were specially adapted so that she could control the mechanism inside the shoes with her toes to extend sharp blades at the tipâ¦.
Thud!
Thwack!
Trueman stared at the seven, eight, nineâ¦. twenty weapons Nora had removed in a span of five minutes, feeling rather disappointed.
He could no longer keep the mischievous smile on his lips. Instead, he looked at Nora and asked, âSo, if I had taken Xander to you, heâd be dead already?â
All those numerous weapons, no matter which one, could kill him!
â⦠No, you wouldnât have been dead,â Nora replied.
Just as Trueman was about to let out a sigh of relief, Nora added, âI havenât found the V16 yet, you know.â
Trueman: ââ¦â
After Nora took everything off, she said, âThatâs all there is.â
Trueman didnât believe her, however. He scanned her again with the head-to-toe scanner.
âThere, now you can be sure thereâs nothing else, right?â asked Nora.
Trueman thought about it. Suddenly, he scanned her fingers.
He had already scanned Nora from her hair to her toes. Moreover, he had even taken the initiative to remove her false nails. Logically, no one would have any suspicions about her fingers anymore. But the moment Trueman scanned her fingers, the scanner started beeping again.
Trueman: ââ¦â
Nora: ââ¦â
A silent Nora removed the small needles hidden in the crevices of her fingernails, pulling out the large quantity of twenty of them. There were two hidden in each of the indentations of her fingernails.
They were too small to be seen.
She coughed â even she herself felt quite embarrassed â and said, âUm, there were so many guns on me that I forgot about those.â
Trueman replied, â⦠Do you think Iâll fall for that?â.
However, Nora didnât care whether he believed her or not. As for Trueman, this time he didnât even spare her the indentations on her toes. After scanning her up and down several times with the scanner, he finally put away all his weapons and continued walking toward the empty meadow on the side.
âWhere are you going?â asked Nora.
âDidnât I tell you a moment ago? Iâm going to pee.â replied Trueman after walking away for a bit.
Trueman wasnât worried about her running away.
As for Nora, she sat in the car and sighed.
She hadnât expected to be checked out so thoroughly. Great, now she couldnât contact anyone. So far, though, it looked like things hadnât gone as badly as she had imagined.
She waited another five minutes. Just as she was getting impatient, she suddenly saw Trueman appear in the distance. Next to Trueman was a small boy who only reached the top of his thighs.
The child looked dejected, and obviously quite unhappy.
It was Xander!!!
