I arrived at the base after the long ride, I was offered a change of clothes earlier but decided to stick to the dress, knowing some of the injuries had already gotten stuck to it. Persha made sure I went to the infamary first, she acted like a mom. Seriously. What this woman wouldn't do, she always treated me like a kid that kept getting in trouble.
Pheraps I am exactly that.
A burden.
I let out a heavy breath, my legs carrying me with no place in mind. The heels clicked against the hard floor as I walked up the stairs.
My hair fluttered in the wind as I pushed the door open, finding myself at the rooftop I made my way over to the edge. Leaning on the small stone wall I focused on the night sky.
The quiet calmed down my mind, getting rid of the haunting dreams, the nightmares that seemed to follow me everywhere. The feeling of guilt that never went away.
I closed my eyes enjoying the moment of purity.
---
König wasn't able to sleep, he hasn't seen you on training today nor the day before. He was worried, but felt it would be improper to ask anyone what was going on with you. He got up from the bed, something nudging him towards the window, a gut feeling you could call it.
And there you were. Walking in a dress with someone next to you. What?
His worry only seemed to grow as he saw your state, he wanted to rush down and see what was going on. See who was wrapping their arms around you. His body kept him frozen to the spot, the thoughts of you plagued his mind, even when you were long gone from his view.
He had to admit, the moment he saw you fighting with Ghost when he first arrived, he took a liking to you. He was delighted when he saw you enter the cafeteria with only him around and felt as if God himself blessed him as he watched you in the gym. He couldn't help it, he just wanted to know more about you, to get closer to you.
That's why when he heard the click of your heels. He followed. Like a lost puppy looking for it's master.
He moved silently in contradiction to his big frame. He stopped in the doorway noticing you looking up at the sky.
His eyes inspecting every curve of your body that the exposing dress didn't cover, his mind wandering places he wished could turn real, he knows better then to let his emotions take front. He gathered all the courage he could find to speak.
"Shade?"
---
I opened my eyes and moving my head to look at the sudden voice, it was König.
"Ah..."
I needed to be on guard around him, but a part of me was slightly relieved that it was him. My paranoia from the mission however wasn't letting me enjoy his presence. Adding to it, it was the middle of the night and I am bearly wearing anything.
"Aren't you cold?"
König felt electricity go through his body when he noticed your tatoos, ones that he would never be able too see with your normall uniform on.
"I will be fine. Sir."
He felt his body stiffen at your words.
"Bitte Mause... call me König."
He cursed in his mind for saying this. But God, did he needed to hear you say his name again.
"That would be highly unprofesionall of me, Sir."
He walked a little closer, he wanted to grab your waist with his hands. He was only a man after all, sometimes even he had fantasies of sorts. The only difference being that he was too anxious to act on them, worried that you would push him away. You barely knew eachother, hell you didn't know him at all. But. No rush. He was going to change that. Step by step.
First he needed to know why you came back like this to the base.
"Bitte, Shade. You look anything but proffesional, right now."
As soon as he stepped closer his eyes met with mine. Oh Lord. How much danger did they hold, they were exactly what captivated me in the first place. I decided to tease him a little. Would he act like he did in the cafeteria?
"Really? Because those, are my work clothes."
Work? Clothes? He couldn't understand what you meant. They send you on the battlefield like this? Or... His face scrunched in anger, although the mask hid his expression the movement of his eyebrows was enough to know.
"Undercover? With no weapons? Who made you go like this?"
"That's classified information, Sir."
"König."
"Wha-?"
"It's König. Bitte."
His face softened and so did his voice, an almost pleading tone made his accent more apparent.
That is.
So fucking cute.
I turned around now fully facing him and leaned against the small stone wall with my back, moving my hands behind my back. I watched as his eyes grew wider.
"You are... you are injured!"
Only now he was able to make out the blood stains on my dress, the darkness of the night making the bandages look like they were a part of it.
He quickly moved closer to me, inspecting whether the blood truly belonged to me.
"Are you okay? Why are you here and not resting when you got hurt?!"
"Boże, König. I'm fine. See? I already got treated." - (God)
My hands were placed on his chest as he held me by my shoulders. His eyes staring deep into mine, making sure I am telling the truth.
After he confirmed I was fine he let go of me and stepped away.
"Sorry."
"It's okay." I breathed out.
He looked like he wanted to say something, but was unsure if he should.
"Is something wrong?"
"I... Do I not scare you, Mein Liebling?"
I almost immediately forgot what he just asked me as I heard his last words.
Mein Liebling? My Darling? I must have heard wrong.
"No, König. You don't scare me."
I could see a spark in his eyes when he heard his name. Adorable.
"Do you want to sit with me for a bit?"
He looked a little surprised but nodded his head and stood next to me. He was a little awkward, obviously nervous, but he seemed like great company.
"So, why were you still awake?"
"I couldn't sleep." He looked hesitant but answered anyway.
"Nightmares?"
The Colonel didn't move nor speak. However I understood, I went through it as well after all.
I sat down on the gravely roof, he soon followed my lead, we both looked at the sky.
"It always helps me, when I can't sleep. The stars, watching the sky in the night, it's mesmerizing."
König looked at me before speaking.
"Ja, they are beautiful."
We sat in silence for a while, goose bumps covered my skin as the cold air hit my bare skin.
"Mein Liebling, you will get sick if you stay here."
I looked at him shocked. This time I did hear it right.
Why was he calling me his darling?
"König, what does 'mein liebling' mean?"
He brought his hand up to his neck, scratching on it.
"It's nothing, just some German nonsens."
Cute. I wonder, does this mean he likes me? Too bad we won't be seeing much of each other. I would love to tease him more.
"So are you from Germany? Kochanie?" - (my love/darling)
He looked a little confused after hearing me speak Polish, it looks like he doesn't understand it. Perfect.
"Austria, actually."
"Cool, so you are bilingual, right?"
He nodded, he wanted to ask something about you instead when he noticed you started to shiver. Next time. He will ask next time, breathing out a sigh he stood up and towered over you.
"Kleine Mause, you are freezing." - (Little mouse)
I looked at him and got up as well, knowing he is right. I started to walk towards the door. König, again, walking behind me, just like last time.
"I don't bite, you don't have to keep such a distance. I won't pounce on you."
I laughed softly and continued walking, wondering if he got flustered.
"ShaiÃe, Shatz."
You could hear him curse under his nose, soon matching your speed and walking closer but not quite beside you.
---
König was adamant on walking me to my quarters, he said he wanted to make sure I got there safe. His explanation?
"What if your stitches open? Or if you feel dizzy and pass out?"
For such a scary looking person, he acted like a puppy. That was until we both saw Ghost in front of the door to my quarters.
What was he doing here?
"Y/N."
I am not used to hearing my own name. It's fine. All I have to do is act natural.
"Yes, Sir."
He wasn't looking at me, instead his eyes were focused behind me. He was looking at König.
"Were those injuries not enough for you?"
"Sir I was just about-"
"She was reporting to me."
I looked back at König surprised. Why is he helping me? I wonder if he had made a background check on me as well.
There was an unspoken tension between the two. One that I would rather not get involved in.
Do they not like each other? Did something happen between them? Now that i think about it, they acted similar on the sparing match when König- HOLY SHIT IS IT ABOUT ME?!
No, there is no way. Right?
Is both KorTac and 141 interested in me? I knew Persha put me with the 141 so the they could asses if I would be a good addition to the team, but now KorTac as well? They were competing to get me on their side?
This made so much sense. Why didn't I realize this sooner?
"I believe our soldiers don't fall under KorTac's supervision."
"As far as I know Specgru doesn't hold much power here either."
Oh wow. Um. What do I do. Let's pretend I don't feel well.
I hissed in pain as I grabbed onto my side, slightly digging my nails into the exposed skin.
They both turned their heads at me, their eyes slightly wider in surprise and worry.
"Kurwa... Ah, sorry. I didn't mean to-" - (Fuck)
"Where are your keys?"
Ghost was quick to react walking closer to me.
"I-In the back pocket of my unifor-"
I stopped. My body froze in the spot.
Fuck.
I left my keys with Persha.
