Chapter 2: Goodbye World
All the air left my lungs as his sharp teeth descended to my exposed neck. I haven't regretted wearing an off-the-shoulder dress more than I did in that moment. It was way too convenient for this creature whose eyes had flashed an alarming red.
"W-What are you-"
I drew for a sharp breath as I felt his teeth brush against my throat. He even freaking took a deep draft of my scent like some kind of dog before he looked me in the eyes, which I had failed to return because of how scary he looked with that unusual eye colour. And that wasn't even a good enough word for itâit shouldn't be possible for someone to have red fucking eyes!
His hand gripped my throat as he forced me to look into those terrifying orbs.
"You're scared," he stated instead of asking. A sinister smile covered his lips as he gave me a once-over. "Good."
When his mouth went to descend on my neck once more, I used all of my strength despite how scared shitless I was to kick him right between the legs.
I think that hurt me more than it did him to be honest.
My legs ached as if I had tried to fight a concrete wall instead of a man. Regardless, he became distracted for a bit as his facial expression became more taut. The guy looked down where I had attacked him, obviously displeased by my actions but not in as much pain as he should be.
Is this guy even human?
Wasting no time on contemplating what was irrelevant, I started to run in the direction from which I came. The club was the only answer when I thought of an escape. At least there were a lot of people there as witnesses. In this dark alleyway, only the stray cats could act as my potential saviorsâand what do you know, they couldn't speak nor protect me either.
My surely terrified eyes were wide and alert as I continued to run.
An ear-piercing scream came from my lungs when he appeared before me within seconds.
Like a goddamn ghost.
How was this even possible?
He had been far behind me a minute ago!
My eyes narrowed onto the desired locationâthe building which was flashing lights and booming with music in the background. It was only a few feet away. If I had at least five minutes, I could make it there and hopefully someone could come to my rescue.
As if he was reading my mind, the predator stood before me like an immovable object and stared with the most bone-chilling gaze.
I swore I felt my legs turn to goo right then and there.
I sucked in a deep breath, the cold air of autumn making this even more physically tiring.
"Why are you doing this?"
Licking his lips, he said nothing as he advanced forward.
I took a step back out of instinct.
Then my brain came up with an idea of attempting to distract him. Maybe with a little small talk.
Think, think, think...
"Y-You said that I...I smelt like someone. Andrew-"
"Angelo." He practically hissed.
I flinched at the aggression in his tone.
"I'm telling you that I don't know who that is!"
My eyes became skittish as his pace picked up, my attempt of trying to verbally distract him proving to have little effect.
"You're lying."
"I'm not!" The panic started to settle in when he opened his mouth to let out a snarl and his protruding teeth were shown. They looked like razors.
When he launched himself at me, I squealed at the sudden attack and tried to run around him with the little space I had.
Just as I thought there was a chance of making it to the club, my clumsiness came at the worst time ever and I tripped over the air.
He watched as I scrambled off the ground and darted for the club again.
I quickly moved, my feet feeling as if they were on fire as I heard him breathing hard behind me. But something told me he wasn't putting in as much effort.
My long legs carried me fast. I could smell the fear practically dripping off me as I heard him chuckle deeply.
"You're done for now."
My eyes widened when a hand grasped me by the shoulder and flung me into the wall. There was a cracking sound and everywhere burned in pain. I looked up at the man through my parted hair as I took deep breaths. Even doing that mere act hurt more than it should.
"Please..." I begged, feeling very confused about the situation.
Sure I wasn't the best person out there, scratch thatâI had a terrible personality half of the time but that didn't warrant this type of treatment. There was no doubt about it that I had pissed some people off in the past as someone who grew up having it all, but not to the point where they would hire someone to murder me...
Right?
"I can smell him even standing this far away and yet you have the nerve to say that you don't know who I'm talking about." His voice became distorted as he strode towards me.
At this point, my eyes were wet with tears. I just couldn't wrap my head around what was going on. And it didn't seem like Genie was going to have someone find me anytime soon. She was drunk anyway. Was this going to be how I met my ending? Not even in a high class place but in a stinky alleyway with no strength to fight back?
Life sucked.
I still took small and shaky creeps away from him. Until my arms gave way and I fell onto my stomach, face in the dirt. My nose scrunched up in disgust.
"P-Please don't hurt me." My voice pleaded quietly for what seemed like the umpteenth time.
His tongue slid out of his mouth like a snake and I couldn't move a muscle when he picked me up with one hand. The predator pushed me against the wall with his hand squeezing my neck. My palms rushed to his wrist when he applied more pressure.
"P-Please..."
He grinned at me in the most terrifying manner as his teeth lengthened, eyes burning red and fingernails digging into my throat. I had convinced myself that this was the end of my existence as he lowered his head.
It was so pathetic of me to die this way, but I hadn't a choice. I tried to fight back but this guy was made of steel. Nothing I did fazed him and that was the most unfortunate part. The realization that my efforts meant nothing in the face of danger.
As a whimper left me from the feeling of his teeth pressing into my neck, I clenched my hands into a fist.
Goodbye world.
Right when I thought I was a goner, somebody ripped the man away from me and my eyes opened just in time to see him come in contact with the hard wall. He left a noticeable dent in the place he hit as he slid to the ground pathetically.
My eyes looked away to see the person who had done such a heroic act.
I felt my relief dissolve as I stared at the weird guy from the bar earlier.
Great.
He had scared me almost as much as that predator jerk had.
However, any emotions of apprehension were placed on the back burner when he quickly rushed to my assistance, his hands checking my face. "Are you alright?" His voice was like honey and it poured all over me, making me forget the pain I was in physically.
"Uh..."
I couldn't find the right words as his fingers caressed the side of my jaw. It was unbelievably soothing. So much that I felt the urge to cry. My eyes glistened with tears which threatened to fall down my cheeks against my skin.
After finding the will to not shed a tear, I cleared my throat. "I'm fine."
His silver eyes looked at me with suspicion.
Then he took a hold of my hand and showed it to us both. It was bleeding from a small wound.
He raised his eyebrows in a patronizing manner as if to say, "Oh really?"
I ripped it out of his hold that brought odd tingles to my skin. I even had to stop my eyes from closing in pleasure. It felt too good and all strangely familiar. As if my mind failed to remember that this so-called savior of mine was as messed up in the head as my potential killer.
The handsome guy sighed deeply as he gave me a genuine expression whilst stating, "I'm not going to hurt you." He was trying to sound soft and less intimidating but I didn't buy it. If I had that easily my name wouldn't be Isabelle Crew.
My brown eyes hesitantly wandered over his face and my body language expressed my discomfort.
We didn't have any time to discuss the depth of my distrust as the man before me suddenly flew across from where he stood.
I gasped in utter shock.
The predator from earlier had shoved him with a force that wasn't humanly. It was incredible to see someone fly at such a distance just by being pushed but I hadn't the liberty to admire that.
I needed to get the hell out of here first.
He turned back to me for a split second when he saw me run off again in the corners of his eyes.
"Where do you think you're going?" He growled as he chased after me, not bothering to waste time again. Really not wanting me to get away, his hand snatched the length of my hair and pulled me backwards.
I yelled out at the excruciating pain as my scalp burnt in protest.
My figure was tossed to the ground once more and this time I broke a nail. And let me tell you, that shit hurt like a bitch.
The crazy thing leaped towards me with an angered face but before he could reach me, I was being lifted off the ground. My eyes could hardly believe it as I looked down to see my body at a distance away from where it should be.
I'm freaking levitating!
I had flown mid-air during the timing, causing the predator to miss me.
He looked up at my floating body then across the alley to see the guy from before.
"Angelo." He hissed with pure hatred.
So he was Angelo.
The guy from the bar.
The one he claimed that I knew.
Ah shit, turns out he was right.
But how could he have known that?
He did say that I smelled like him, but I couldn't recall the guy wearing any strong cologne, or anything of that kind. Or was I just not as much of a sensory freak as he was? Please let that be the answer.
I almost forgot that I was levitating in mid-air before I felt myself moving towards him with a smooth beckon of his hand. My lips parted in shock as I flew across with timed consistency and fell right into his awaiting arms.
He looked down at me with those unique eyes of his.
"Hey." I breathed out, not knowing what to say.
Unbeknownst to him, a small smile played on his lips. "Hey."
Like a fool, my heart raced at his beautiful visuals. I couldn't resist the longing sigh I released as he scanned my face, his eyes finally settling on my lips.
As if he was scolding himself, he shook his head and placed me down onto my feet. I wobbled for a second but managed to not embarrass myself any further.
"Are you okay?"
"I mean, I've been chased by a crazy man who wants to 'feast on my flesh' because he seems to think we have some kind of connection. Not to mention how he has physically abused me due to this same reason until you showed up. Yeah, I'm positively swell alright."
Looking as if someone punched him in the gut, he winced. "I'm sorry."
I gazed at his vulnerable eyes for a minute as I melted on the spot.
"It's not entirely your fault."
He shook his head in disagreement. "You have no idea how much of my fault this is. If only I had thought things through before approaching you tonight. You wouldn't be in this mess right now. Stupid demon."
"What?" I asked as he whispered the last part to himself.
The man looked up pointedly at me.
Before that, he had appeared startled by my question.
"Nothing." He dismissed quickly.
His attention shifted to the mentally ill person who was charging at us like a wild animal.
"I need you to do something for me." The beautiful man from beside me spoke up.
"What?"
"Close your eyes."
I looked up at him oddly.
Why would he be asking me to do something so risky right now? Was he losing it again?
"Why-"
"Just do it."
Something authoritative in his voice had me screwing my eyes shut on cue as I went behind him.
Throughout the period that passed after that, I heard nothing but grunts and groans. There was also the sound of something snapping and a distinctive smell of smoke. I was tempted to open my eyes, but I was scared to see what was happening as well. So I kept them closed until I felt a hand rest on my shoulder.
I jumped in surprise as my eyes snapped open.
A pair of familiar silver eyes greeted me.
They looked much more relaxed than they did a few minutes ago.
I looked around for the cause of their tension and found that the serial killer from earlier had completely disappeared.
"How-"
Before I could get another word in, I was out like a light.
***
Well, that was unexpected.
