Chapter 40 Ada watched Camilaâs boiling mad back and fiddled with her freshly done nails. She had been worried that Jason wouldnât have Sophia entertain the client at dinner, but after this scandal, Sophia was trapped, given Jasonâs way of handling things Eve leaned in close to Ada, whispering. âWhen Mr. Jason carried her back, I saw blood. Sheâs probably suffering a miscarriageâ
Ada sneered âSo what? Jason will never find out she was pregnant,â she said as she slowly stood up. With Sophiaâs messy affair with Oliver, Ada believed that Sophia would destroy herself without anyone elseâs interference. âLetâs go and enjoy the show.â
Inside the medical room, Dr. Hannah Diaz was examining Sophia.
Jason, standing beside the bed with a frown, asked. âDidnât her period just end? Why is there still bleedingâ
It wasnât much blood, but it was still concerning. He was furious with Sophia for her clear betrayal, but he had never intended for her to die.
Sophiaâs condition was alarming. She was too pale, almost corpseâlike. If she hadnât been breathing, Jason wouldâve thought she was dead.
âWhatâs wrong with her? Why is she so weak?â Jason asked.
Hannah hesitated, biting her lip, holding back words that desperately wanted to be spoken. âSurvival of the fittest, she thought.
âSympathy for Mrs. Sophia wouldnât change a thing. If she didnât grow stronger, sheâd be tortured eventually anyway.â
âMr. Wilson, well, Mrs. Sophia is just off her period, and her uterus is still fragile, so intense activity can cause bleeding, and her weakness could be from too much lovemaking. Hannah said.
Too much lovemaking? I only had a few minutes with her. How could she be this exhausted? Sheâs been at Oliverâs place all afternoon; maybe they went at it for hours, which could actually be too much. With these thoughts, Jason abruptly closed his eyes, forcefully suppressing the surge of rage rolling in his gut.
Just then, Camila burst into the room, making a beeline to the bed, and swung her arm hard across Sophiaâs face.
Jason, on the other side, realized his motherâs intent too late to stop her and could only watch as she slapped Sophia. His eyes turned icy as he said. sternly. âWhy hit her out of the blue âOut of the blue!â Camila sneered, throwing the photos at him. âThe Wilson family wonât stand for such a shameless daughterâ
inâlaw.â
Jasonâs anger flared as he saw the photos on the bed. It seemed like Oliver was determined to disrupt his peace and weaken his defenses, trying to beat him in business.
He couldnât understand why Oliver would keep opposing him. The Wilson Group focused on Al, while the Clark Group was all about jewelry and fashion; they could coexist peacefully. But Oliver seemed intent on not letting him be, almost as if they were mortal enemies, and now heâd even meddled with Jasonâs woman.
âThereâs been a misunderstanding. You donât need to get involved. Iâll handle it,â Jason said.
Camila shot him a glare. âA misunderstanding? What misunderstanding? You caught her in the act. How could that be wrong?â
Just then. Sophia woke up and hoarsely said, âNo misunderstanding. Itâs true. I cheated, just draft the divorce papers for me to sign.â
Jason stepped forward, grabbing her chin, fury coursing through him. Take back what you just said, or youâll regret it Sophia let out a hollow laugh, meeting his restrained gaze, and asked weakly, âHow will I regret it? Are you going to send me to entertain your client?
