Chapter 62 âRough day, huh?â A familiar voice, filled with spite, slithered into Sophiaâs ear. She flinched back, blinking at Ada for a moment before attempting to brush past her.
Seeing Sophia Ignore her. Ada narrowed her eyes. She snagged Sophiaâs arm, leaning in close. âYou ever wonder why your dad went after that secret stuff three years ago?â
Sophiaâs head snapped up, her gaze sharp and cold. Adaâs smug smirk sent a shiver down Sophiaâs spine. Her dad wasnât an idiot, he wouldnât touch something like a thermal weapon code on a whim. Unless... âWas it you?â
A slow, cruel smile spread across Adaâs face as she pinched Sophiaâs chin. âBingo.â Sophia gritted her teeth. âHow?â
âMy dad fed yours a line, saying it was just some runâofâtheâmill research data. He made it sound like snagging it would let the Taylor Group surpass the Wilsons. Your dad bought into it, spent a good two months scheming to swipe the code, but ended up falling right into Jasonâs trap. Jason gave him a choice back then: either rot in jail or pull the plug on the Taylor Group. Well, your dad was too chicken to face the music, so he chose to throw in the towel on the company. And that, Sophia, is why the Taylor Group went bellyâup.â
Sophiaâs grip tightened on Adaâs arm, knuckles turning white. âWhatâs in it for you if the Taylor Group goes under?â A cruel grin stretched across Adaâs face. âOh, plenty of perks, believe me.â Her voice dropped to a whisper. âRemember how Jason hates you? He wanted my dad to take down Taylor Group. Then, Jason made my dad a shareholder at Wilson Group.â
Sophia stumbled back, a wave of icy dread washing over her. The past three years â a calculated move by Jason? Heâd destroyed her family, not just to vent, but to humiliate her. This was the man sheâd loved for eight years? Heâd poisoned her life, then turned his venom on her family.
Seeing Sophiaâs pain, Ada pressed her advantage, stepping closer. âAnd your little âaccidentâ two years ago? Iâll ensure your father meets the same fate as that bastard you miscarried two years ago, with no resting place.â
A bloody image flashed through Sophiaâs mind, hatred flickering in her eyes. Ada, sensing that she had already stirred up Sophiaâs anger, Instinctively reached out to caress her own belly, a wicked smile curling at the corner of her lips. âItâs about damn time to get rid of this one.â
âHeard you buried the poor baby in the cemetery,â Ada taunted. âRest in peace can be a fragile thing. I can have someone dig her up, reduce her remains to dust, and scatter them to the wind. Think about that.â
Rage consumed Sophia. Her world turned crimson, all rational thought dissolving, âYou vicious bitch!â she roared, lunging for Adaâs throat. Her fingers dug in with a fury that mirrored the inferno in her eyes.
Ada, smirking through the pain, choked out, âGoing to kill my child to avenge your lost one? Sheâll never rest if you donâtâ Sophia seemed entranced, her hand pressing down on Adaâs stomach with a terrifying intensity Ada pressed on, her voice strained. âEnd it, and your daughter will finally be at peace.â The words were a twisted spell, chipping away at the last vestiges of Sophiaâs sanity. Her fingers curled into a fist, knuckles white. Just as she raised her fist to strike, a voice boomed from nearby, âStop!â
The sound, like a thunderclap, ripped through the fog clouding Sophiaâs mind. She stared, disoriented, at her hand wrapped around Adaâs throat How had this happened? How had she lost control so quickly?
A forceful shove sent her sprawling onto the show. Looking up, she met Jasonâs furious gaze.
