Narrator's pov

"Did she really?"
"Yes"
"Holy shit"
"I know" Ember groaned, adjusting her neck scarf around her shoulder
"What do you think that means?" Fallon asked
"I... Wish I knew"
"Well I think it means something is going right. I don't know what you're doing but keep it up and you might have yourself a girlfriend by the end of the month"
"Whoever said I wanted a girlfriend?" Ember asked
"Oh... You don't?" the boy questioned
"I.... Don't know"
"Why's that?"
"I haven't had anyone ever since... Her"
"Oh-"
"Yeah" Ember mumbled uncomfortably
It had been such a long time since she's even thought about the girl of her past. A girl that showed her what love truly wasn't about
"It's been five years Ember"
"So!?"
"So, you're allowed to let yourself be happy you know"
"Am I?"
"Yes, what the hell Ember"
"Relationships are too complex-"
"And what the hell do you think you're trying to do with Gabrielle?" the boy scoffed
"I.... I don't know"
"You've got to be kidding me"
"What?"
"You flirt with her all the time"
"So? It's just flirting"
"But what are you trying to achieve?" the boy asked, folding his arms across his chest
Ember rolled her eyes as she leaned down over her bed, slipping her feet into her shoes
"I just know that I don't want to hurt her"
"You're going to hurt her if you don't accept that you can allow yourself to open up to possiblities-"
By this point, Ember had honestly found herself annoyed at everything starting to come out the boy's mouth. It wasn't like she didn't know it all already
She just chose to ignore it
Something she needed to change but was too stubborn to listen to her own self, even worse when someone else was telling her to change herself
"That sounds like a problem for another day" The girl said, standing from her bed
As early as it was in the morning, she needed to start her day fresh and fast
She had noticed since their last encounter that Gabrielle may be living around the same area as hers, so she took it upon herself to wake as early as possible so she wouldn't miss the girl's ride
Only this time, she was going to join her
Ember flattened her fingers against her white blouse, ironing out any bends in her shirt before glancing at her wrist for the time
"I see the way you look at her Ember" Fallon mumbled, leaning his back against the door
It seemed to leave the girl a bit silent, her eyes still hooked onto her watch while the boy talked
"You care about her more than you thought you would" He said
"What are you talking about?" Ember glared
"Come on Em, you know it too. You're really starting to crush hard on this girl and you're acting bratty right now because it's how you cope. You know inside that it's starting to get real and you're scared. You're scared of her actually having feelings for you and making it all turn deeper. But you know to yourself you won't stop"
"And how would you know that?"
"BECAUSE YOU LITERALLY WOKE UP EARLY TO CATCH HER RIDING DOWN THE STREET"
Ember sunk her teeth into her bottom lip as her eyes slowly glanced up at her best friend
She knew it was true. She knew it all. Feelings were something she chose to run from but now she found herself running towards someone
But in all honesty, she wasn't afraid of it getting real
She was afraid that it wouldn't
Yet in the mix of it, she couldn't help herself. There was just something about that girl that she couldn't stay away from
She had the eyes of the sun, from those eyes came a sense of home. The eyes come as perfect flower buds freshly opened in the dawn. In the early dawn her eyes were the dew, scattering the nascent rays, ever illuminating her soul. That was enough to drawn Ember in and leave her on lockdown
"Look, I gotta go. But I'll see you later?" She asked, walking closer towards the door
"Ember, we need to sit down and talk about this" he said sternly
"And we will... Just not right now" she mumbled, hooking her fingers around the lock
Fallon sighed, allowing his arms to fall from his chest and land on his sides
"I just don't want either of you to get hurt, especially if you're not prepared for what you might get yourself into" The boy said
Ember sunk her teeth into her bottom lip, feeling Fallon place a tap on her shoulder as she opened the door
"I get it" She mumbled
"See you later Ember"
"Bye Falls" she gave a weak smile before leaving the apartment
The wide and empty hallway before her reminded her of the road she had ahead
The road to accepting and forgiving herself. The road to understanding her feelings. The road that will lead her towards passion and not dark ends
The girl tucked her hands into her pockets after adjusting her computer bag strap over her shoulder
It was far too early for anyone to be up so the journey to the elevator was lonely
Except her thoughts keeping her company
Was she ready to feel again? Through it all, she always thought to herself that it was just flirting she had been doing with Gabrielle
Something to annoy her in hopes to see her squirm, but there was something still drawing her in to the blonde
We can never fight our feelings and win. We can try but in the end, they always win. Ember fought herself, she truly fought the urges that took over when she thought of the singer
Her fingers wrapped around the door of the main entrance, tugging it wide open and immediately meeting the glare of the morning light. Clouds gathered around, holding each other close while the sun hid behind it, bringing grey colour to the sky
Ember glanced down the street, looking both ways in hope that she would run into a familiar blonde
A sigh left her lips when the street was cleared, the streets lights were the only thing with life besides her in the open. The girl gripped her strap and pushed her hand into her pocket, starting her journey towards the familiar coffee shop to get her daily energy
A small sting rested in her heart, not enough to hurt but enough to bring a frown to her face
Dissapointed, she expected to run into the girl, it was what her heart was set on although she tried to not get her hopes up for something she wasn't sure of
Hell, she tried to not get her hopes up ever since she met the girl in the park but plans always have a way of falling through, especially in her life
Her mind soon drifted to yesterday's events. The way her heart always jump kicked in her chest at the slightly touch of the green eyed girl. The way her eyes melted into her own. The way the girl's smile was enough to control her body
When you react like that to someone, you know you've got yourself in deep
Ember knew she was falling and she was falling hard, but she was still scared to dip her toes into something she hated
Especially when she knew she wasn't going to get that same feeling being given back to her
Perhaps her mind would be changed if she actually ran into the girl this morning
"SHIT. LOOK OUT" A voice screamed from behind
Her neck had snapped around to follow the voice, Ember's eyes widened in panic and her muscles tightened when she noticed a familiar blonde coming with full speed towards her body on her bicycle
"AGGHHH" their voices filled the empty street with metal collided with bones
Well... She did say she wanted to run into Gabrielle
Quite literally
