"You're kidding me" Fallon scoffed
"No sir, I wish I was" Ember shrugged
"What the fuck"
"I know-"
"How the fuck!"
"I know-"
"I'm going to get a knife and a fork and feed this bitch to a cult" Fallon narrowed his eyes, making the girl chuckle
Ember placed her hand on the coffee shop door, pushing it wide open for Fallon to enter first
"That's a little far, don't you think?"
"Girly really out here with a man and making out with you in a park. I think that's too far" Fallon explained
Ember knew the boy was right, there were questions she had that needed answers but the thought of those answers pierced a knife into her heart. The truth was needed but the truth would hurt
She had no clue what happened yesterday in the park. One second her lips were touching hers then the next there was a man saying he belonged to the girl she was crushing on
Don't even get started on that kiss. She had only experienced that feeling once in her lifetime and that was only yesterday. There was never a time when she had kissed someone and felt butterflies take over her system at such an intense state that it made her lose all control of her body
And those lips. God those lips she couldn't keep her eyes off, tasted exactly as she expected. Such softness to her, like a hug from a cloud. The feeling in her stomach made her feel like she had fallen off that cloud and was tumbling down to earth with nothing but her smile, yet she felt safe in that moment
Because she knew she was wanted
How could one experience such a kiss that left her breathless, then experience such pain ten seconds later?
Even rejection would have been better, but to find out that the person she was falling for had a boyfriend was just too painful
But she didn't show it. Her smile was as fake as my reasons to be alive but she kept herself together
Something she was trained to do at a young age. As doctors, her parents thought her how to limit her emotions and control them so people couldn't pick her apart. Maybe they thought they were grooming her to be a doctor, but they left her broken in ways they wouldn't know
Now she went on with her life with pain inside and a smile on her face that no one would know was actually a crumbling person, ready to fall apart at the slightest touch
"I can't explain it. It was just-"
"Just nothing. Don't make excuses for anyone Ember" Fallon mumbled, sliding his hands into his pockets to lift his wallet
"I'm not, I'm just sayi-"
"Nuh uh hunny, that's what we not finna do. Stop. Making. Excuses. People hurt you and you always try to rationalize their actions" Falling said, pulling out a few bills and placing it on the counter
"Two milk coffees please" He smiled, The girl couldn't help but raise a brow at the boy
"What?" he chuckled
"Look at you, spending money on me"
"You deserve to be spoiled" He smiled
"Oh lucky me, daddy's buying me a three dollar coffee, I wonder what I could do to repay him" Ember pouted slightly making the boy laugh
"Dumbass" he chuckled
"Oh! I know! I'll wear his favorite outfit tonight and get on my knees. Let him abuse me-"
"Alrightyyyy there, here's your order" the barrister chuckled as she placed two cups of coffee onto the counter, pulling away Ember from her next words
"And to the customers behind, coffee's on the house" the barrister chuckled and nodded behind the two adults to see an elderly woman standing behind them with her eyes widened in horror
"shit" Ember snickered
"Shh, don't traumatize the people more" Fallon chuckled, lightly pushing his elbow into the girl's side so that they moved off from the line
But unfortunately Ember's eyes came into contact with someone she really wasn't hoping to run into
"Speaking of Traumatizing" she muttered under her breath
Fallon furrowed his brow and followed the directions of the girl's eye line
"Oh-" He mumbled
Gabrielle leaned her head against the window of the store while her boyfriend's arm was wrapped around her shoulder. His mouth moved on and on saying something that the girl clearly wasn't interested in
He chuckled to himself as he told a story, but the blonde rolled her eyes and crossed her arms across her chest
"Oh babe, isn't that your friend?" He asked aloud, breaking her attention away from the glass
"Oh no" the two muttered when the couple's eyes met theirs
Ember's heart squeezed inside her chest, as if it wanted to deflate and fall down to her pelvis bone
Those light green eyes didn't look so bright anymore, they seemed dull. But she couldn't bring herself to stare at her for more than a few seconds
That familiar feeling was spreading through her chest, gripping her lungs and numbing her smile
"Hiiiiiiiiiiii" the raven hair boy waved at the two, his hand reached into the air as he dramatically waved so that they couldn't miss him if they tried
"Oh no" they muttered again
"Come join us!" he yelled
"Oh no no no no no no no" Fallon mumbled
Gabrielle's panic was visible on her face. Her cheeks were more pale than usual
Or perhaps they were only shaded pink when she was around Ember
The girl's eyes widened but words couldn't fall from her lips
She knew she had gotten herself into a sticky situation and she had no idea how to get out of it without hurting anyone
"Do you want to?" Fallon questioned
"I.. Don't know"
"I'll come with you if you want" He stated
"Are you going to be a good boy?" Ember smirked
"Oh please" he scoffed
"I woke up today and choice violence" the boy said before hooking his arm around Ember's and tugging her towards the direction of the booth
The raven hair man stood from his seat as he greeted the two friends approaching them
"Hi, I'm Henry" He gave a wide smile
"Mhm hmm" Falling said, running his eyes up and down the man's body in curiosity
"Something wrong?" he asked
"Yes but I'll blame your mother for that" He said
Ember bit down on her bottom lip to control the small giggle that wanted to escape her lips
Henry furrowed his brow at the boy, confused by his words but shrugged it off in the end
Ember slipped into the booth first without even realizing that the girl that made her heart race was going to be facing her
Soon her regret followed, Gabrielle's eyes met her own. Those light green eyes were the new forest foliage in the pure sunshine beaming through the clear glass window of the shop
Her face told infinite things before a word was spoken, one only has to realise how to listen
Her emotions written in those glossy eyes told Ember she needed more of a connection, or that she thought
Her eyes were so different in that moment, more soft than she knew eyes could be. The blushing girl was gone and instead it was the eyes of one who loved deeply
And with her, Ember was drawn in closer, always wanting more. So she looked at her, taking in every moment for her memory, knowing it was the medication she need to survive the next few days
Or months, God knows how long it would be until she felt whole again
In all the world there wasn't another like her
Once again, a flood of her pain washed through her soul and took everything that was pure
A clutching at her heart, threatening to rip it into pieces and leave it to rot
She never knew why she felt this way, Gabrielle wasn't hers in the first place
But God that kiss was something the heavens would write
A kiss that left a mark, what was once unclaimed was now cherished
It was a kiss that she could describe over and over everyday and never get tired of the fluttering in her chest
Because that kiss was something she'll always remember for the rest of her life
Ember bit her lip, eyes everywhere but on Gabrielle. Then the blonde moved closer with those eyes that look so deeply into her own
Her breathing became softer, the pensive look melting into a smile as soft as the morning light. Her body squirmed just a little as her muscles relax. There was something about that gaze of hers she'll never find in another woman, as if in that moment their souls have made a bridge
It was in moments like these did Ember truly realize how deep she had fallen
