"What the fuck is going on here"
A dead person waking up at their own funeral could not compare to the expression written across the two girl's faces
"Ember!" The brunette's father yelled
Hearts were racing more than before, Gabrielle's eyes widened while her body froze still on the table, knowing someone had just walked in on her being under Ember's body, with her legs sprawled wide open
Hell, she could only thank God that it wasn't her parents
No one wants their parents walking in on them having Sex
The taller girl simply inhaled deeply before slowly removing herself from Gabrielle's body
The blonde girl was burning bright red from embarrassment, making sure to keep her head down from whoever it might be
"Yes father?" Ember grinned
At the time the embarrassment was immense, and Gabrielle could have hid as a child may have
"Jesus" Gabrielle hissed when she realized it was her boss
"It's the first goddamned day and you already have a woman in here!?" the man yelled
Gabrielle felt herself sink even deeper into her embarrassment knowing that her boss hasn't realized it was her as yet
"Correction dear father, my girlfriend" She grinned
Through her nerves, Gabrielle managed to hear words that dropped her expression to the bottom
To hear the word girlfriend from Ember had her lost in her own world, a world which moved slowly so that the day could last and enjoy time, a world where beauty was saturated and love was their anthem
Ember knew it was bold to say it so openly without ever discussing it but it was long overdue. Gabrielle was her joy, without joy every sweet thing was bitter, the wind was ice, rain was depressing in its beautiful state
Every small thing in life was a moment able to nourish the soul with Gabrielle. She found herself living with awe, humbleness, present in each moment and the gifts of life filled her
The singers lips curved into a smile when their eyes locked once again, completely forgetting there was someone in the room
"Girlfriend?" she whispered
"That is... If you'll have me" Ember muttered
Gabrielle's slight smile found itself even wider than it was, growing with every thought of her future being labelled more than Ember's lover
"I think it has a nice ring to it" Gabrielle chuckled
"Is that a yes?" Ember grinned
"I guess" Gabrielle playfully rolled her eyes but followed with a giggle
In the quiet moment, when all the world is put on pause, Ember found herself so very lucky to see right into Gabrielle's eyes, to have a wordless definition for joy
That smile etched its way onto her face and tugged at her heartstrings
But moments only last for a few seconds before all hell is loose
"Gabrielle!?" a familiar voice hissed
If looks could kill then the singer would be sliced and diced into half from the glare coming from her parents in front of her
"WHAT IS THE PURPOSE OF THIS" the man hissed once again
"She's getting her tubes tied" Ember smirked, bringing her fingers to her buttons and adjusting them properly
"WHAT!?"
"Yeah, you didn't know? I'm training to be a gynecologist" Ember grinned
"Oh my God" Gabrielle groaned, burying her face deep into her palms
"It's the first goddamned day Ember, and you're already sleeping with the lawyer!?" Her father yelled
"Correction. I've been sleeping with my girlfriend and far before any of this even happened" The girl said, helping Gabrielle off the table
The singer kept her head down, trying to avoid the stabbing glares from her parents as she adjusted her dress
"What about Henry? God he was so goo-"
"Henry is a man. That's a whole insult by itself right there" Ember snickered
"How long has-"
"Four months now" Gabrielle finally muttered
"Enough to get pregnan-"
"Ember" Gabrielle hissed, elbowing the girl in the sides
"You two didn't seem to know each other a few days ago" Her father said
"You didn't seem to know I existed until a few days ago either. I guess we're even" Ember grinned
"That's no way to speak to your fathe-"
"For someone so vocal about how to speak and how not to speak to a man, you sure don't say anything when he comes home with the smell of victoria secret perfume on his coat, or do you stay quiet because your bank account number is higher than the amount of times you caught him cheating?" Ember questioned
The room fell dead silent, not a sound was made but the energy shifted. Gabrielle's parents were left with their eyes widened as they glanced between the Atkins family while Ember's mother started to twitch
It was visible on her face that she was about to crack at any point, her father on the other hand tucked his hands into his lab coat and rocked gently back and forth on his heels
What more could he say besides it was true and he knew she was aware of it all
But their secrets remained behind closed wall all of the years
"What the hell happened to you" Her father hissed
It was a question that brought a little light to Ember's eyes, the brunette's smile slowly tugged upwards as she started to chuckle slightly
What happened to her? Well for one she had finally left a house where she felt suffocated. Taking her first breath of freedom was enough to bring her back to reality. A reality where happiness was actually possible in the world
A world which she created by herself without the help of anyone
She was miserable for years, the only way she found happiness was in her mind and those peaceful times she spent alone, hiding from her parents so that she could be a normal child for just a few minutes
Oh how she wished she had a better childhood but she knew she was going to have a better adulthood
With the help of her friend and now the charming little blonde that was gripping her arm
She knew her life was going to be better. Far better than what she had expected
Her six year old self would be brought to tears if they could see her now
"What happened was, I finally became me. The me I was set out to be and not the person you wanted to create like a fucking lab experiment. Work a child to the bone and expect them to be a machine. I'm done with that, and the more you push me, the more will come out" Ember said, her eyes fluttered back and forth between her parents
Most wouldn't understand what she meant at first but the two doctors knew exactly what she was talking about
Which brought their demeanour to a shock
"You wouldn't" The man muttered, a small tremble took his voice
"You seem to know alot about blackmail, father. Threats? Exposing secrets? It would be a shame if the 'new face' of the hospital just seemed to blurt it all out in an interview, now wouldn't it?" Ember smirked
"Ember Atkins-"
"Relax mother, I'm not vile like the two of you. I don't stoop that low to make sure I ruin someone's life. Unlike you, I have a heart, somewhere along the lines you lost yourself and now greed is all you seek. I'm not going to expose your secrets mother. I know damn well it's far too selfish to expose you and let all the people working here crash down with you. They don't deserve that. But what I have planned will be far more interesting" The girl smirked
Their faces fell slightly, yet they showed no guilt, no remorse. In the spectrum of having their entire work fall apart, they payed no attention to what they had done, but to what might happen
But Ember knew better than to let innocent people suffer from what her parents did, she knew way too much about that. Whatever fraud, whatever scandal the Atkins name was apart of was not going to bring down everyone with them
Her eyes glowed with joy and a smirk met her lips, for the first time she was in control. And she going to make them regret giving her all power
"There's going to be some changes around here"
