RESCUE THE PRIESTESS â TOWER OF WIND, MIDNIGHT
The night was alive with stormlight.
Clouds churned above the Tower of Wind, their edges lit by the pale shimmer of the moon. The air was sharp, restlessâcarrying the scent of rain and steel. Below the marble steps, banners of the Rhapsodian Empire rippled in the wind, black and crimson against the silver sky.
Captain Vael Coren stood at the head of his troops, greatsword resting across his shoulder. His voice cut through the night like a blade.
âBy command of the Rhapsodian Empire, surrender the Tower of Wind! Stand down, priestâor be cut down!â
At the top of the steps stood a slender figure cloaked in white and gold, silver hair flowing like silk in the storm. Though small in frame, her presence filled the clearing like dawn chasing shadows.
Seraphina Caelira, Priestess of the Tower of Wind.
She did not flinch.
âAs Keeper of this sanctuary,â she said, her voice clear as a bell, âit is my duty to protect it. Turn backâor be judged by the light.â
For a heartbeat, silence reigned.
Then Vael raised his hand. âKill her.â
The order shattered the stillness. The Rhapsodian soldiers surged forward, armor clattering, blades flashing.
Liam Etneilav stepped in front of the Priestess, gauntlets gleaming in the moonlight.
âStay behind me, Priestess!â he barked, slamming his fists together. The two monks flanked him, staves spinning in defensive arcs.
The first wave struck like a stormâspears thrust, swords clanged, arrows hissed through the air. Liam caught a spear on his gauntlet, twisting it aside before driving his fist into the attackerâs chest. Bone cracked. A monk parried a sword strike and countered with a sweeping blow that sent his foe sprawling.
Seraphina raised her staff, voice steady amid the chaos.
âHoly Light!â
Radiance flared from her staffâs tip, blinding the front line. Soldiers staggered back, eyes seared by brilliance.
But the Rhapsodian mages retaliated in unison.
âFlare Burst! Thunder Shot!â
Bolts of fire and lightning streaked toward the tower. One monk cried out as a blast struck his chest, hurling him down the steps. He hit the stone hardâmotionless.
âBrother!â the surviving monk shouted, but Liam seized his arm.
âHold the line! We canât let them through!â
Seraphinaâs eyes shimmered with grief, but she lifted her staff again.
âSoothing Veil!â
A soft glow spread from her, wrapping Liam and the monk in a shimmering aura. Wounds knit. Breath steadied.
Still, the enemy pressed closer.
Captain Vael advanced, his greatsword cleaving through the air with brutal precision. âEnd this!â he roared. âTake the tower!â
Liam braced himself, but the sheer force of Vaelâs swing sent him skidding back. The Priestess stumbled, clutching her staff.
Thenâa voice cut through the storm.
âLiam! Priestess! Hold onâweâre coming!â
From the forestâs shadow, silver light flashed. The Luminous Vanguard had arrived.
Themis Valeheart led the charge, his sword gleaming like captured moonlight. Heathcliff followed close behind, spear spinning in deadly arcs. Tristanâs cloak snapped in the wind as he barked orders, eyes sharp and calculating.

Above them, Trieniâs arrows whistled through the air, dropping two bowmen before they could react. Trish raised her hands, frost blooming at her fingertips.
âCrystalline Veil!â
A dome of shimmering ice enveloped Seraphina and Liam, deflecting a volley of arrows. The air turned cold; the ground beneath the enemyâs feet glistened with frost.
Heathcliffâs spear pierced through a mageâs barrier, scattering sparks.
âYou picked the wrong tower to raid!â he shouted, twisting his weapon free.
Trieni loosed another arrow, striking an assassin mid-leap.
âEyes left, Heathcliffâtheyâre circling!â
âOn it!â he called, spinning to intercept.
Trish knelt beside the fallen monk, her voice soft.
âFrost Heal.â
Pale mist gatheredâbut the monkâs breath had already faded. Her lips trembled. âToo lateâ¦â
Tristanâs command cut through the grief.
âFocus! The captainâs the key. Themisâmove!â
Themis nodded. âUnderstood.â
They advanced together. Themis darted in, his blade flashing in relentless strikes that forced Vael onto the defensive. Sparks flew as steel met steel. Tristan flanked wide, feinting low before slashing upward, driving the enemy captain back step by step.
Vael snarled. âYou think you can best me, boy?â
Themis caught the blow, muscles straining. âNot alone,â he said through his teeth. âBut Iâm not alone.â
âNow!â Tristan shouted.
Heathcliff lunged from the side, spear thrusting toward Vaelâs flank. The captain twisted to blockâbut that instant of distraction cost him. Trieniâs arrow sank into his shoulder, staggering him.
Liam charged, gauntlets blazing. âFor the Priestess!â
His punch thundered into Vaelâs chest, denting armor and driving him back.
Vael roared, swinging wildly. The blade arced toward Seraphinaâ
âbut Liam stepped between them. The sword bit into his shoulder, crimson scattering across the marble.
âLiam!â Seraphina cried, catching him as he fell to one knee.
He grinned through the pain. âStill standingâ¦â
Seraphina pressed her hand to his wound, light blooming beneath her palm.
âBlessing of Light!â
The bleeding slowed. âYouâve done enough,â she whispered. âRest.â
He shook his head. âNot while youâre still in danger.â
Across the field, Zilla and Empusa, seeing their lines break, exchanged a look.
âThis isnât worth dying for,â Zilla hissed.
Empusa smirked. âLet the captain play hero.â
They melted into the shadows, retreating into the night.
Tristan saw them flee but didnât pursue. âIgnore them. Their Captain is ours!â
Themis raised his sword, lunar fire glinting along its edge. âTogether!â
Heathcliff struck first, forcing Vaelâs guard high. Tristan swept low, cutting across his legs. Themis followed through, driving his blade into the gap of Vaelâs armor. The captain staggered, gasping, before collapsing to his knees.
Vaelâs eyes burned with defiance. âYou⦠think this victory matters?â
Themis met his gaze, calm and resolute. âEvery life we protect matters.â
With one final strike, the battle ended.
The field fell silent, save for the whisper of the wind.
The surviving Rhapsodian soldiersâbloodied and brokenâthrew down their weapons and fled into the dark.
Rain began to fall, soft and cold.
Themis lowered his sword, breath heavy. Around him, his comrades gatheredâwounded, weary, but alive.
Liam managed a tired smile. âGood to see you again, Captain. Glad you made it.â
Seraphina stepped forward, her staff glowing faintly. âYou came for us,â she said softly. âThe Tower of Wind owes you its light.â
Themis sheathed his blade, glancing toward the horizon where the storm was breaking.
âIâm glad we arrived in time,â he said quietly. Then, to Liam: âYou did well. The Priestess is safe because of you.â
The wind howled through the towerâs spires, carrying away the scent of blood and rain.
The battle was wonâbut the night was far from over.
