"Don't you have a date, Lydia?"
Oh shoot, I completely forget about it. I jump out of the bed hastily and run inside the bathroom, ignoring the amusing looks that Tanner and Em are throwing my way. I wash my face and then shave my arms and legs, carefully because I have a habit of injuring myself every time I do so. Thankfully, I do not cut myself even once, which is progress, and then head out of the bathroom to check the time.
12:11 p.m.
Well, I have forty nine minutes to get ready so I decide to head inside my closet to look for something I can wear today. Last night, Ridge texted me, asking about our date so we decided to go today at one. Since I was the one who asked him on the date, I forced him into agreeing that I would take him out and I have just the best idea for us! He doesn't know about it but thankfully he hasn't pestered me about is till now. He was actually really excited to see what I have planned.
"Lydia, what are you wearing for your date? Come out and show us!" Em yells from outside.
"Wait." I reply, my eyes scanning the dresses before settling on the outfit. I take it out and get out of my closet to see Em and Tan sprawled on my bed, waiting for me. "How about this?"
I carefully place the outfit on the table. It consists of black net full-sleeved top along with a grey black checkered dress. Their eyes scan the outfit and their expressions tell me that both of them like it.
"It's nice." Tan comments, smiling. But then his face expressions scrunch up in disapproval, and he frowns. "Just make sure to cover those legs."
I roll my eyes but smile nonetheless. "Yes father. I'll be wearing thigh high boots with this, probably, okay?"
He chuckles and then gets back on his phone. Em squeals in delight, then picks up the outfit from the bed, running her hands on the fabric. "I love this dress! You'll look sexy in this for sure. And, I'll choose the footwear." She gets up from the bed, the outfit in one hand and her other hand grabbing my wrist and pulls me inside the closet. She places the outfit on the couch and then walks towards the shoe cabinet, looking around before her eyes finally settle on the black thigh high boots. "This will go with this, and-" she pauses, then tip toes to the bags cabinet and pulls out a black handbag, "-this completes the outfit!"
I nod in approval, looking at the complete outfit in front of me. "This is perfect."
"You're welcome." She fans her face dramatically, standing proud with her hands on her waist. "Now, imma head out while you do your hair and make up. I wanna see what you do." With that, she struts out, singing to herself.
Okay!
Now onto hair and makeup. I pull out my hair straightener and plug it in, waiting for it to heat up. By the time it happens, I rake a brush through my frizzy hair to untangle the knots. Once I'm done, I straighten my hair properly which takes me 15-20 minutes. Once I'm done, I head outside to my vanity for make up. I pull out the stool and sit down, careful not to brush my hair.
"You need help?" Em asks, looking at me through the mirror.
"Nope, I got it." I shake my head, dismissing her. Since I wanted to do something different this time, I opt for a little heavy but subtle make up look. Once I'm done, I look at myself in the mirror, feeling proud of my work.
I don't understand why people have problems with girls wearing make up. I mean, it's our choice, who are you to tell us what to do and what not to do? Even girls have a problem with other girls wearing makeup and dressing up. Wearing makeup doesn't make someone a slut, so why slut shame someone just because they are happy in their own selves and treat themselves like a queen?
I mean, I have seen and heard girls call me a slut and a whore in my previous school because I used to wear makeup and dress up in school but never really understood why?! It's not like I have a 24/7 open sign on my forehead. I have also seen people bullying someone who doesn't like make up, calling them prude and snob. I mean, why don't you just make up your mind about it?!
But that doesn't stop me from doing so. I like putting on makeup and treat myself like my mom taught me. My mom always used to say that people who are insecure and diffident are the ones who comment about your appearance to make them feel good about themselves so I just let them be and ignored them. It's not like I can knock some sense into each one of them, because that would be too painful for my hand.
"Lydia, what the hell are you dreaming about?" Tanner's voice snaps me back to reality. He arches an eyebrow at me, looking through the mirror. "I called you three times, but you didn't answer. Were you sleeping with your eyes open?"
I got lost in my thoughts again. I chuckle, shaking my head. "Just thinking about something."
"About Ridge's dick?" Em comments, giving me a sly smirk, wiggling her eyebrows at me in a suggestive manner.
Cue the not so subtle eye roll. "Yeah, right."
"Okay fine, go put on your dress. You have only fifteen minutes left. Ridge will be waiting for you at his place." Em asserts, gesturing me to go towards the closet. Sighing, I run inside and put on my outfit and my boots. Picking up the bag, I head outside and strike a pose for them. "What do you think?"
Tanner cranes his neck up to look at me. A grin lights up his face when he takes in my outfit. "You look beautiful, baby girl."
"Yeah, you do. Ridge is in for one hell of a date." Em remarks, a genuine smile on her face. I walk towards my bed and put my bag on it, picking up my phone to click a picture and send it to the girls who asked me to do so when they got to know about the date last night.
I click a mirror selfie and send it to them, waiting for their replies. Soon enough, the replies come.
Trish - Damn, you look hot Lydia! Just make sure you don't get pregnant tonight!
Erica - I hope Ridge is able to keep it in his pants tonight because damn girl, you look fire.
Kiara - Ignore these two, you look beautiful :)
Em - I chose the outfit for her guys! Of course she looks she beautiful.
My head snaps towards Em who's chuckling quietly, looking at her phone screen. Yeah, right! Erica added her in this group after the sleepover and both Tanner and Em in the other group too. They all bonded well, so it's great.
My phone pings, notifying a text from Ridge.
Ridge - Sweetheart, are you sure you are fine with picking me up? I mean, if you want to, it's fine but I can be there to pick you up in five minutes.
Me - I'm not fighting you on this.
I'll be there in ten minutes or so.
Ridge - Okay, I'm waiting ;)
I put my phone along with the charger and a few essentials in my bag and get up. "Okay guys, I'm going now."
"Come on, we'll walk you to the door." Tanner gets up from the bed and so does Em.
"This is my house, you know?" I raise an eyebrow, crossing my hands in front of my chest.
"Yeah, so? We are not kicking you out. So shut up and move on." Em comments, rolling her eyes at me.
I do not give them a reply except for an eye roll and head downstairs carefully, courtesy of the boots. When I reach down along with Tanner and Em, I pick my car keys from the key holder and turn towards them. "Please so not burn down the house during my absence? And if you do, make sure to keep the ice cream safe."
"Stop acting like a mom and go now." Em turns me around and pushes me forward, out of the door, slamming it in my face when I'm finally out, on the porch.
Seriously?
Shaking my head at their craziness, I walk towards the garage and sit in my car and zoom off to Ridge's house.
âââ
I park my car in the driveway of Ridge's house. His house is not really different from mine. Except for the garden in the back. Same infrastructure and building. I guess it's because we live in the same locality. Sighing, I turn off the engine and take a deep breath. I rub my sweaty palms against my dress, wiping them off as I feel nervousness course through my veins. I don't know why I am so nervous. I Just want everything to be perfect.
I look at myself in the rear view mirror as my lips curl up in a brief smile. "Beautiful."
A little self love to boost my confidence!
I step out of the car and take one final deep breath and walk towards the door, ringing the doorbell. My feet tap on the concrete floor as I wait for someone to open the door. Suddenly the door opens with a jerk and a boy, probably ten or eleven stares at me, his eyes calculating. "Hey, how may I help you?"
I give him a smile. "Hey, I'm here for Ridge."
He nods, then yells. "Ridge, there's a beautiful girl at the door, asking for you." He then looks at me, giving me a big grin. "Are your sure you are here for Ridge?"
I giggle at his cuteness. "Yeah, I'm pretty sure I'm here for Ridge."
"Miles, ask her to come inside dumbass!" Ridge's voice comes from inside.
Miles blushes on instant, giving me a sheepish smile. "Oops, sorry. Come inside please." He opens the door wide for me to enter and steps aside. I give him a smile and get inside, my eyes taking in the walls that are decorated with photo-frames. A smile makes it's way on my lips when I see family photographs with Ridge and Miles smiling and laughing with their parents. It's beautiful.
"So, why are you here?" Miles' voice snaps me out of my trance. I look at him, raising an eyebrow as he mirrors my expression heading inside, which looks like a living room.
"I'm taking Ridge out on a date." I reply.
His eyes grow big at my statement. "So, you are the girlfriend he has been talking about?"
He has been talking to his family about me? Tha -that's heartwarming and scary. I nod, and smile at him. "Yep, that's me."
He opens his mouth to say something but stops when we hear thumping of footsteps coming from my behind. I turn around to see Ridge coming downstairs, setting his hair. "Sorry for making you wait, I was just - woah, damn! " He stops suddenly when he finally looks at me, his voice thick and hoarse. "You look gorgeous."
My cheeks tint red due to his compliment. "Thank you." My eyes scan his outfit. He is wearing a black polo t-shirt underneath a black denim jacket paired with black ripped jeans and red sneakers. Damn. "You look hot."
He chuckles, then winks at me, his dimple flashing. "Thanks sweetheart." He comes downstairs, giving me a kiss on the cheek and then heads straight to Miles who's looking at us in amusement. "Look, I'm going out and I'll be a little late today so you will behave yourself until Anne comes back from the mall okay?" He asks Miles, his hands on his shoulder. "No sneaking out or cooking on your own."
Miles rolls his eyes at him, shoving Ridge's hands away from his shoulder. "Don't worry. I can take care of myself. You go enjoy your date."
"Call me if anything happens." He commands in a strict voice.
Miles pushes him away and mutters. "God, you're so annoying." He then looks at me, an annoyed expression on his face. "How do you tolerate him?"
I giggle. "Special powers."
"Hey, we are going now! Take care of yourself, bye." Ridge says one last time and then grabs my hand, giving me a crooked grin. "Let's go, sweetheart."
