The next day, bright and early, Chi Enen watched Baby Chi enter the kindergarten. Just as she turned to hurry to the radio station, she accidentally bumped into someone.
âIâm sorry, excuse me.â
A masculine voice filled with a hint of laughter sounded from above her, âItâs okay. Youâre Jingchenâs mother, right?â
Chi Enen lifted her head and noticed for the first time a man around six feet tall standing in front of her. He appeared to be in his early thirties, with gold- rimmed glasses, exuding an intellectual and refined aura.
She felt he looked familiar but couldnât immediately recall where she had seen him. The man in front of her was already extending his hand in greeting, âHello, my name is Han Qifeng. Iâm the father of Han Xiaoru, Jingchenâs classmate. You saw me at the school gate yesterday, remember?â
Yesterday, at the school gate⦠Chi Enen had an epiphany and finally remembered who he was. She awkwardly extended her hand to his in greeting and introduced herself, âChi Enen, Baby⦠Chi Jingchenâs mother. Thank you for keeping my son company for so long yesterday, Mr. Han.â
Han Qifeng smiled warmly, his honesty catching her off guard, âIt was Xiaoru who insisted on waiting with Jingchen because she heard his mother works late and was worried heâd be lonely. As a father, I could only stay and wait with the princess.â
Han Qifeng might not be considered handsome, but his demeanour and conversation were incredibly pleasant. During their first interaction, he wasnât overly familiar yet not aloof. His mature speech was tinged with humor, and within that humor lay an air of candid generosity, resembling the boy next door, putting people at ease.
Chi Enen was no longer as embarrassed and explained with a smile, âI got off work late yesterday, and there was a bit of a traffic jam, so I arrived a bit late. Regardless, I still appreciate Mr. Han having kept Jingchen company for so long.â
Han Qifeng didnât respond to her thanks but suddenly asked, âI heard from Jingchen that Miss Chi is an emcee?â
Chi Enen figured Jingchen, that little rascal, probably on purpose only told Han Qifeng she was an emcee and didnât mention that among emcees, she was at the very bottom, a radio host.
She didnât really mind. Thereâs no high or low in oneâs profession, and even as a radio host, she was working hard to support her family through her own efforts, so she replied openly, âYes, thatâs right, a radio host.â
âThe City Help show on BBC Traffic Broadcast? Iâve listened to a few episodes of Miss Chiâs show, and I find your hosting style quite humorous,â Han Qifeng said, and without waiting for her surprised reaction, he invited her with a smile, âMiss Chi must be on her way to work now, right? Our hospital is nearby, so if you donât mind, please take my car.â
âThisâ¦â
âI donât mean anything by it, only that Jingchen and Xiaoru are classmates who get along well. It also so happens to be on your way, so I thought Iâd extend an impromptu invitation to Miss Chi. If youâre uncomfortable with it, you can pretend I never asked.â
He was speaking so considerately that if Chi Enen refused now, she would seem overly sensitive. After pondering for a moment, she nodded and said, âThen Iâll have to trouble Mr. Han.â n/o/vel/b//in dot c//om
âItâs no trouble at all.â
Chi Enen followed him without overthinking it. Firstly, she was self-aware enough to know that at best, she could be considered quaintly pretty. To be deemed beautiful was a stretch, but to say she was so dazzling that men would have inappropriate thoughts at first glance would be overly self-flattering. Secondly, there indeed was a Level-A Hospital near the radio station, so Han Qifeng hadnât lied. Thirdly, she had forgotten to charge her electric bike last night and indeed was in a hurry to get to work.
Once the Mercedes-Benz came to a stop at the radio stationâs doorway, Chi Enen opened the car door, stepped out, thanked Han Qifeng once more, and entered the company with her bag in handâ¦
