Monday, hospital.
âMiss Chi, hereâs the medication you requested,â whispered the gynecology nurse as she surreptitiously sized her up.
âOkay, thank you,â replied Chi Enen, feigning ignorance of the nurseâs gaze and calmly placing the ointment into her bag. This particular ointment was for use on âthat area,â not available outside, and could only be found at the hospital. She had woken up that morning to find the area so swollen she wouldnât have been able to work without applying the medication.
With the gynecology department crowded as always, chairs filled with people, Chi Enen endured the discomfort of walking and made her way outside.
Just as she reached the entrance to the corridor, her mobile phone âbeepedâ with a message.
She frowned, thinking it was a text message from Li Beijue. Despite not wanting to check, she feared provoking him and found a quiet corner to take out her phone.
But as soon as she did, a phone call came through. Chi Enen glanced at the phone number and her frown deepened, âHello?â
Whatever was said on the other end, her frown only grew more pronounced, âMm, Iâm back in the country. Iâm at the City Hospital, letâs talk when you get here, 1â11 be waiting at the back door.â
Half an hour later.
Chi Enen made her way to the hospital back door.
As soon as she arrived, she saw a woman standing there.
The woman seemed to be in her early forties, with a face no longer young, daubed with make-up ill-suited for the season. It was early spring, yet she was wrapped in a thick fur coat, clutching an outdated branded bag, a parvenu vibe that couldnât be masked!
At that moment, she paced back and forth anxiously at the back door, occasionally letting slip a curse under her breath.
âThat naughty girl, why hasnât she come yet?â
âHow much longer do 1 have to wait for her?â
Growing impatient, she was about to take out her phone to call and hurry things up.
But as she turned around, she was startled by Chi Enen, who had already approached from behind, and let out a gasp. She then came over with a sheepish smile, âEnen, it turned out to be you. When did you get here? Why didnât you alert me? You gave me quite a scare.â
Chi Enen, not in the mood for beating around the bush, asked directly, âWhat do you want?â
Lin Meiqi cursed her inwardly as a âwild, extreme species,â but the forced smile on her puffy face from overdone face-lift injections became even more pronounced. She tapped Chi Enen on the shoulder and chided, âWhat kind of way is that to talk, child? Canât 1 come see you if thereâs no matter at hand? 1 just heard you came back to the country and was worried you might be being bullied out there. So 1 came to check on youâ¦â
If Chi Enen actually believed her lies, sheâd be a fool!
This aunt of hers only appeared when there was something to gain. Hearing that she had come back to the country and immediately showing up definitely wasnât out of concern, at least not for her wellbeing.
Feeling unwell and not wanting to waste time, Chi Enen responded expressionlessly after hearing Lin Meiqiâs words, âAunt, have you said all you wanted? Iâm not feeling very well, Iâll be going now.â
After that, she turned and walked away.
Lin Meiqi had not expected her to actually leave so abruptly and was momentarily dumbfounded!
Without thinking, she ran after Chi Enen and grabbed her wrist, âEnen, wait! 1 have something else I want to talk to you about.â
Chi Enen stopped, turned around, and waited indifferently for her to continue.
Seeing her reaction, Lin Meiqi felt her hope half dashed, yet she couldnât help but force out a few tears and clung to Chi Enenâs hand desperately, âEnen, save me and your uncle! You are the only one who can save us now!â
Chi Enenâs eyebrows furrowed, and she looked at her, âWhatâs happened to you guys this time?â
âWeâ¦â Lin Meiqi stammered, âowe the loan sharks 600,000â¦.â
