Chapter 89- Heartbeats Michelle didnât move in with Tessa and her family despite how insistent Tessa was. Even though the penthouse was quiet and lonely, she wanted to live there and wait for her husband.
She didnât want him to find an empty house when he returned.
The days went by and her nausea was reducing. She swore she could already see a tiny bump on her belly. Deep down, she wished she could experience her pregnancy with her husband. She missed him so much.
She was in her office when she suddenly felt thirsty and decided to grab herself a drink. However, when she opened the door, she came face to face with two military personnel.
Right there and then, a bad feeling crept into her. Her stomach twisted and turned and her mind reeled with thoughts..
âWhy are these men here?â
âAre they looking for Graham?â
âDid something bad happen to him?â
She didnât mean to think of anything bad, however, Grahamâs quietness had worried her.
Her fears came true when one of the military men told her that they had lost contact with Graham and he was feared dead.
Her eyes widened into saucers. She stuttered as she asked, âWhat do you mean you lost contact with him? What does that entail?â
âHe may have been captured by terrorists and thereâs a possibility of him being killed. We are here to tell you to prepare yourself for any outcome,â one of the military men announced.
Alarm bells went off in Michelleâs mind. Her heart clenched and suddenly, she rolled her eyes to the back of her head, falling backwards.
âMichelle!â
Tessa squeaked and reached out for Michelle. The military men also acted out of instinct and prevented her fall.
âSheâs fainted! Letâs take her to the hospital!â Tessa screamed.
Her screaming attracted the employees in the company. While Lisa, her assistant quickly took out her phone to call an ambulance, Celia rushed over, her eyes becoming rounder.
âWhat happened? Let me do first aid as we wait for the ambulance,â she offered.
1/5 Chapter 29-Heartbeats Michelle was lay down on the floor where Cella checked her breathing and performed CPR.
However, she did not come to. So, when the ambulance arrived, Tessa left Celia in charge of the company and hopped into the ambulance.
A few minutes later, they arrived and Michelle was rushed into the emergency room. As Tessa remained outside, she called Aaron and informed him, âBabe, Michelle collapsed! Graham is missing.â
âWhat?!â Aaronâs deep voice could be heard on the phone.
Tessa explained how some military men went to the office to deliver the news. She sighed and said, âThis news is shocking.
Babe, please use your people to find Graham. Maybe heâs in trouble.â
âIâll deploy our men and have them search for him. Heâs my very good friend, I wouldnât sit back and do nothing when heâs in trouble,â Aaron said on the phone.
When they cut the call, Tessa continued to wait for Michelle outside the emergency room. Soon, a doctor came out and smiled at Tessa.
âGood afternoon, Mrs Wentworth.â
Tessaâs eyes widened. She wound up asking, âYou know me?â
âEveryone knows you, Maâam. Who doesnât know you are married to the most powerful man in the city?â the doctor remarked.
âThis hospital belongs to Dr. Victor Clinton. He was so happy about his friendâs wedding that he let your wedding stream on the screens within the hospital. Everyone was happy to witness your beautiful union. Thatâs how I know you,â he added.
Tessa nodded and inquired, âHow is my friend and her baby? Is she awake?â
âSheâs ok. The fainting was due to shock. Her blood pressure had spiked up a little. However, her vitals are now normal. She came to for a brief moment and then fell asleep. Donât worry, Mrs Wentworth. She was just stressed but thereâs been no harm to the baby.â
Breathing out a sigh of relief, Tessa thanked the doctor, âIâm glad sheâs ok. Thank you for your help.â
The doctor smiled and said, âI was just doing my job.â
He whipped around and was about to leave when Tessa suddenly winced and clutched her stomach. The pain was stronger than the first, she couldnât help but let out a small groan.
âAre you ok?â The Doctor paused and asked.
Knitting her eyebrows, Tessa shook her head. She said, âIâve been having cramps in my lower abdomen.â
âSince youâre already here, I suggest you get checked out. Never ignore pain, Mrs Wentworth. In case itâs a serious issue, if itâs found earlier, it can be cured quickly,â the Doctor advised.
Tessa agreed with him, âThatâs true. Iâll see a doctor after I check on Michelle. Let me just tell my husband.â
A few minutes later, she dialled Aaronâs number again.
âHey, love. Iâm about to start the search for Graham. Howâs Michelle?â Aaron asked when he picked up.
âSheâs fine, thank goodness. Babe, Iâm still experiencing cramps in my lower abdomen. Iâm going to see a doctor,â Tessa reported.
âWhat? My love... didnât you say you didnât have the cramps again?â Aaronâs anxious voice came through the phone.
Tessa bit her lower lip as guilt crept into her. She replied in a small voice, âI lied... Iâm sorry, babe. I didnât want you to worry. I thought it was just normal period pain.â
There was silence on the other side of the phone and Tessaâs stomach clenched, twisting and turning with nerves.
âBabe? Babe, please say something,â she said.
She heard Aaron sigh before his voice resonated through the speaker. He asked her, âTessa, what did we say in our vows?
Didnât we promise to be together in good times and bad? You should have told me... Itâs ok if I worry about you because thatâs what Iâm supposed to do. I feel worse now knowing you were in pain and I had no idea.â
His voice sounded hurt and it made Tessa feel like someone was squeezing her heart. She was about to apologise again but Aaron beat her to it.
âIâm sorry, my love. I should have been more observant. Always tell me if thereâs something wrong, ok? Iâll also tell you if thereâs something wrong with me because we promised to take care of each other. I canât come over right now... but Iâll ask Victor to help you see a doctor.â
Tessaâs eyes watered. She knew she shouldnât have hidden her situation from Aaron and she was grateful that he didnât react badly.
âThank you for loving me, Aaron. I love you...â She proclaimed.
âI love you most. Iâll call you soon, let me just find my friend.â
When the call was cut, Tessa took out her insurance card and proceeded to register for a medical check-up.
Meanwhile, Aaron furrowed his eyebrows when Tessa cut the call. Worry crept into him and he hated the fact that he couldnât rush over to the hospital immediately and be there for Tessa as she had a medical check-up.
He glanced at the building in front of him and sighed. He glanced at Enock and said, âLetâs go. Iâll talk to the guys for a few minutes and before we leave, I want to pass through the hospital and see my wife. Sheâs not feeling well.â
âNoted, Sir,â Enock responded.
They walked into the building which was called, GT Security Company. It was a company that was secretly founded by Graham.
At this company, they trained people to be professional bodyguards and they provided security services like installing CCTV, wiretapping, tracking stolen devices and installing digital clocking systems in workplaces.
Graham started this Company when he had just risen to the ranks in the military but he didnât reveal himself to the public. No one knew who the GT Security Company belonged to.
Aaron went straight to the training hall where he found different men and women training in martial arts. They were skilled because they always practised. Even Aaronâs bodyguards were from this company and that was why they were good.
When they saw Aaron, they immediately stopped what they were doing, organized themselves. and stood at attention. They knew he was their bossâ friend and that he had 10% of the company shares.
Aaron wore a poker face as he began to speak, âYour CEO is missing after going on a mission. The military has lost contact with him but they donât know about the GPS chip he had inserted in his upper arm. We are going to find him and bring him back home. I want this done by the end of the day. Do I make myself clear?!â
âSir, yes, Sir!â
âGeneral Grahamâs wife is pregnant and sheâs waiting for her husband. We need to find him today by hook or by crook!â Aaron commanded.
âSir, yes, Sir!â The group answered.
They proceeded to first look through their tracking system and located the signal from Grahamâs GPS chip. It showed that he was in Whitpalm City and he was stationary. The GPS was at the same spot for more than ten minutes.
The team concluded that Graham was being held captive. After preparing for their rescue mission, they started off but Aaron branched off briefly to see his wife who wasnât feeling well.
Meanwhile, Tessa was waiting for the gynaecologist in the examination room. She had been waiting in the queue to see a general doctor since she had no appointment but Victor had helped her out and made an abrupt appointment for her.
4/5 Aaron had called him and asked him to take care of his wife. The gynaecologist was on her way out of the city when Victor called her to report for work. Victor had to offer her extra incentives for her to return and attend to Mrs Wentworth.
The door to the examination room opened and a lady with navy blue scrubs walked into the room. She looked young, young, about Tessaâs age.
âSorry for keeping you waiting. I was told there was a VVIP patient requiring my help. My name is Christina Rowland,â the young Doctor said as soon as she took a seat opposite Tessa.
âThank you for making time for me, Doctor Christina,â Tessa replied, smiling.
Doctor Christina asked her a few questions... how intense the pain was... how persistent it was... when the pain started and how she was feeling currently.
She nodded and looked at the notes she was jotting down. Looking up at Tessa, she asked, When was your last period?â
Tessa wrinkled her eyebrows and after quickly calculating the days in her mind, she said, âOne and a half months ago. Iâm late by two weeks.â
âDid you take a pregnancy test?â Doctor Christina inquired.
âI didnât. It canât be pregnancy. I have a loop,â Tessa responded.
Doctor Christina nodded. She jotted down another few notes and then pointed at the bed a few feet away. âPlease lie down on the bed. Iâll do an ultrasound.â
Tessa proceeded to lay on the bed and hiked her shirt up. Doctor Christina began the ultrasound. She smeared gel on Tessaâs stomach and used a probe to scan what was inside her womb.
While looking at the screen, Doctor Christina remarked, âWell, would you look at that? Three strong heartbeats. Congratulations, youâre pregnant with triplets!â
