So Bad Boy's Protection recently hit 1M reads (THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THAT) and I asked what chapter in this book would people like to see in Grayson's POV, so here is chapter 15, aka Poppy and Grayson's first kiss, in Grayson's point of view.
Chapter 15
Grayson
Spring break was next week, so the school though it would be nice to take the juniors and seniors to the beach all day for a field trip. I was planning on skipping that day anyway to head to the beach, so on the plus side, I wouldn't get in trouble.
Not that I cared if I did.
And hopefully, I would be able to talk to Poppy about the whole ignoring her thing. I thought that it was a good idea at first, but it wasn't. No matter what, Belle and Devon were going to hurt her, even if it had nothing to do with me. And I couldn't stand to see her get hurt.
I arrived right as the bus was about to leave. I looked over at Poppy, who instantly looked away. Why did I have to listen to my stupid sister and her stupid idea? Poppy looked so hurt and it was all my fault.
I silently sighed and sat down in one of the empty seat before the bus started driving to the beach. It felt like hours passed before we finally arrived.
Everyone quickly piled out of the bus, but I just got out slowly, hoping I could talk to Poppy before she got out. However, she ended up getting out of the bus before me, quite quickly I might add. When everyone was out of the bus, we waited for instructions from Mrs. Goth. "I supposed you're all happy about being at the beach instead of school," she said.
"Yeah, because now I don't have to skip school to come here," I said with a smirk.
"Watch it," Mrs. Goth said. "Or you'll have to stay within view of any staff member." I just shrugged in reply. If that did happen, I would just sneak away. "That brings me to one of the rules. You don't have to stay within the view of any staff as long as you're not getting into trouble." She was looking at me for most of it and I couldn't blame her. "And at then, everyone has to meet by those picnic tables over there so we can start an assignment." She pointed to the picnic tables where some teachers were setting up a few things. "That's right. You're not getting off that easily. Now go have fun."
Fun? Was she serious? We were going to have to do an assignment on the field trip. I had a feeling she didn't really know what fun meant.
I looked where Poppy was standing only to see that she already walked off. I waited for a bit before deciding to follow her, hoping she would be willing to talk to me. I found her at the ice cream stand and when she got her ice cream, she turned around, only to bump into me. That only caused Poppy to accidentally smudge her ice cream onto her white shirt.
"Poppy, I am so sorry!" I said.
Poppy looked at me and scoffed before walking passed me and making her way to the washroom. I sighed before taking my backpack off of my back to take an extra shirt out, knowing it was going to be hard for her to clean the chocolate ice cream off of her white shirt.
After a while, Poppy walked out and saw me. "What do you want?" she asked.
"Two things," I said. "One," I held out my extra shirt, "I never go to the beach without an extra shirt."
Poppy hesitated before grabbing it. "What's number two?" she asked.
"I'll tell you after you change your shirt," I said, gesturing for her to go back into the washroom.
She did and it wasn't long before she came back out, wearing my shirt. "Now what?" she asked.
"We need to talk," I said.
"Really?" she asked. "Well, I don't want to talk to you." She walked passed me.
"Flower," I said as I followed her.
Thankfully, she stopped and turned to face me. "No, you're not allowed to call me Flower anymore."
"Can we please just talk?" I asked. I hated having her so mad at me. Why couldn't she just listen?
"How come you suddenly want to talk to me?" Poppy asked. "You ignored me and even watched me get knocked out and you didn't do anything about it. So if you don't want to talk to me, then I don't want to talk to you."
"Poppy, please," I said. "I didn't want to ignore you."
"Yet you did," she pointed out. "I told you what happened with me and Ben, then you completely ignored me afterwards. You promised they would never hurt me again, but you watched as Belle it me in the head with a volleyball."
"It was stupid, okay?" I said. "I had no other choice."
"For what?" she asked. "To not be friends with me anymore? You could have just said so!"
Did she really think I didn't want to be friends with her? All I wanted was for us to be more than friends.
"That's not it," I said. "You haven't fully met Dedrick but trust me when I tell you that he's ruthless. He'll do anything to get to me."
"Yes, because ignoring me is totally going to solve your problem," Poppy said sarcastically.
"You don't get it," I said. "You heard what he said to me. He's going to find my weakness and use it against me."
"So you ignored me and watched me get hurt?" Poppy asked. "That doesn't make any sense!" As much as I liked Poppy, she was really oblivious at times.
"Can you just listen to me?!" I asked, my voice raising a bit without me meaning to. I couldn't help it, though. "You're not getting it!"
"Then shine some light on me," Poppy said. "Is it because you didn't want to be friends with someone who was assaulted?" Holy crap, was she serious?
"What? N-"
Poppy didn't even let me finish. "I should have guessed it since almost everyone hates me because of it."
"Poppy, just l-"
"I can't believe my only friend after a long time ignored me because of it."
"Are you seri-"
"I wish it never happened becau-" I couldn't take it anymore. I really had to get her to shut the hell up, so I did something I wasn't even planning on doing. I cupped her face in my hands and pressed my lips against hers.
I then slowly pulled away, but I kept my face close to hers. "I did it because you're my weakness," I said.
Poppy didn't say anything. She was just staring at me.
"Poppy, please say something," I said.
She still didn't reply.
"I guess I'll say something," I said. "I didn't want to ignore you, but if Devon thinks that you're nit important to me, then he and Dedrick won't do anything to you. But ignoring you was hurting you more than I thought it would. I like you, okay? I like you so much and I can't stand to see you get hurt."
Poppy didn't reply for the longest time and I was worried she was going to tell me that she didn't even think of me as more than friends. We only recently started talking, but my feelings for her were so strong and I couldn't hide them anymore.
Finally, she said, "Going soft, are we?"
I glared at her. "Funny."
"Grayson, ignoring me doesn't really make a difference," she said. "No matter what, Devon and Belle are going to hurt me because of Ben."
"But Dedrick is much more violent and ruthless than Devon," I said. "You heard what he's going to do. He'll use my weakness against me. He'll hurt you."
"I've been hurt more than can last a lifetime," she said. "I'm pretty sure I can handle whatever Dedrick throws at me." Yeah, I really didn't think she could, but I'd rather not tell her exactly what Dedrick could do. "Just please don't ignore me again. I missed you."
I smiled at her. "Under one condition. You go out with me."
"That's funny, because I don't remember telling you that I like you as well," she said jokingly.
Oh, so she wanted to play it that way? "That's fine," I said. "I made it clear that I'll ignore you unless you go out with me."
"Is that blackmail?" she asked. "Wow. How nice."
I still need an answer," I said before looking at my watch. "And you better hurry. It's ten and we need to meet with everyone else."
Poppy finally, finally, smiled at me. "Well, I like you too, so I'll go out with you."
I smiled once again. "Great. Now we should meet with the others. Although, they would probably expect me to be late. So I'm good either way." Actually, I'd rather show up late. Or not at all. We were on a field trip, we didn't need no assignment.
"I'm not one to be late, though," Poppy pointed out.
"Fine, we'll have it your way," I said as I held her hand and led her to the picnic tabled.
Everyone else was already there and Mrs. Goth did not look impressed to see me and Poppy show up late. "The instructions were to be here at ten," she said. "It's past ten."
I shrugged. What, she expected me to actually show up on time? "I would lie and say we tried being here on time, but the truth is we couldn't have cared less."
"He couldn't have cared less," Poppy corrected. "I lost track of time." Aww, my Flower didn't want to get in trouble. How cute.
"Yes, because you were arguing with me," I pointed out.
Mrs. Goth sighed. "Let's just get started on the assignment. Everyone partner up. This assignment will be for two people."
While everyone partnered up, I threw my arm around Poppy. "Why, hello, partner."
"Who said I'm your partner?" Poppy asked.
"Me," I said as Mrs. Goth began handing out a piece of paper and a paper bag to each set of pairs. Poppy took the paper from Mrs. Goth and looked at it with me.
"We need to find this things," Poppy said.
I scoffed as I looked at the paper. "Sedimentary rocks? Metamorphic rocks? What the hell are those?"
"Types of rocks," Poppy said. Wow, thanks Captain Obvious.
"Yeah, but how are we able to find out which is which?" I asked. I bent down and picked up a rock. "How the hell can I tell what type of rock this is?"
Poppy looked at it. "Sedimentary."
I looked at her with furrowed eyebrows. "What?"
"See those holes?" she asked. "That's how I know it's sedimentary."
"Can we just not do this and go swimming or something?" I asked. Earth science was not my thing.
"My mom has been mad at my actions lately," Poppy said. "If she finds out that I ignored an assignment, she'll be even more mad."
I sighed, but I had a smile on my face as well. "You're cute when you worry about simple things, Flower," I said. I gave her a quick kiss before taking the paper out of her hands. "Alright then. Let's do this stupid thing."
