âMs. Quill, we can understand your grief,â the organ donation staff said humbly. âBut have you thought that if Tinkerbell managed to get a match for her bone marrow, she could get the transplant and survive? I believe that if she were still alive, sheâd want to save her peers too-â
Before the employee could finish, Esther broke down in tears.
Yeah, her Tinkerbell was so kind -so kind that she thought that she was there to adopt a child and repeatedly reminded her not to adopt a sick child like her.
Her Tinkerbell was so kind, but why were the heavens so cruel?
It was her fault. Why must she listen to the director? Why did she not tell Tinkerbell last night that she was not there to adopt a child? She was there specifically to see her because she was her mother.
Jasper glanced at Camila, and the latter cleared her throat before speaking assertively. âMs. Quill, before the maternity test result is out, Iâm still Tinkerbellâs guardian, and I have the right to agree to donate her heart and cornea. I didnât do so because I empathize with your grief as a mother.
âTinkerbellâs your daughter. We can understand what you feel. But put yourself in another perspective.
If Tinkerbell were to find a match, but the other party wasnât willing to donate, youâd plead with them, right?
âYouâre a mother, and the other womanâs a mother too. Your love for your daughters is the same. You all hope for your child to live healthy and safe.â
Jasper stepped in front of Esther once more and scowled at the director and the staff, growling, â Youâre forcing her!â
The organ donation staff replied seriously, âMr. Searle, itâs not that weâre forcing her, but the heart wonât be able to save anyone if we wait any longer! We⦠Weâre doing this for a sliver of hope for the girl.â
âI⦠I agree.â
Esther gave in. She agreed to donate the organs because she knew how kind her Tinkerbell was. If Tinkerbell were still alive, she would hope that her cornea and heart could save other children too.
âThank you, Ms. Quill. I thank you on behalf of the girl as well.â The organ donation staff was delighted.
The teary-eyed Esther looked up and asked shakily, âCan I know to whom my daughterâs heart-
âIâm sorry. Organ donation remains confidential to both parties.â The staff rejected her request coldly.
Jasper added, âWe just want to know who used the heart. We promise we wonât disturb their lives.â
âWe have the duty to keep it confidential for the recipient.â The staff remained fair and formal.
Esther had looked up information about leukemia when she discovered that Tinkerbell had it. One of the aspects was organ donation, so she knew that donations like the kidney or heart were kept undisclosed.
Although she would never know whose chest Tinkerbellâs heart would beat in, she weakly urged them to proceed with the surgery.
âAlright.â
The medical personnel took Tinkerbellâs heart and cornea away for the organ donation.
The maternity test result was yet to be produced, so Esther currently did not have the right to sign the donation agreement. It was Camila who did it.
Camila looked at Esther, seated on the bench outside the operation ward, and asked in worry, doesnât look okay. Mr. Searle, you should seek a psychologist to help her.â
âShe
