As Billy entered the ward, he saw Liliane silently weeping, clutching her chest.
âDad.â Liliane looked at Billy with teary eyes and suddenly thought of Leah, who was captured.
Urgently, she pleaded, âDad, Momâs been arrested. Hurry and save her!â
Billy examined Liliane from head to toe. He had once believed firmly that Liliane was his biological daughter and saw similarities between them. But now, the cruel truth stood before him, and he could no longer deceive himself into thinking that Liliane resembled him in any way.
âLiliane, return the wedding gift to me,â Billy stated.
Caught off guard by her fatherâs request, Liliane asked in astonishment, âDad, why do you want something thatâs already been given away?â
Billy stood in front of Lilianeâs hospital bed and explained, âIt was meant as your wedding gift, but since you havenât gotten married, thereâs no need to keep it with you for now.â
Confused, Liliane turned her head to look at her fatherâs emotionless face. She weakly protested, âDad, you only have me as your daughter. Everything in the Ansteys will eventually belong to meâ¦â
âWho says youâre the only daughter of the Ansteys?â Billy pulled a chair and sat before Liliane, taking out his phone. He aimed the camera at Lilianeâs sickly face and said, âEsther is also my daughter.â
A trace of annoyance and killing intent flashed in Lilianeâs eyes. âDad, didnât you say she has no blood relation to you?â
âAn adopted daughter is still a daughter,â Billy replied, realizing Liliane shared the same. materialistic traits as her malicious mother. âShe should receive her fair share.â
âBut Dad, Esther is already Bradleyâs wife. The Warners are wealthy and influential. Why would they care about your small possessions?â
Liliane had been bestowed with stocks, properties, and everything else. How could she bear to give it all back?
Unfazed, Billy spoke coldly. âWhat she has is hers, and what I give her is from me. Can they be considered the same?â
âDadâ¦â Liliane suddenly mentioned Leah, adopting a righteous tone, âDoes Mom know about the things youâre saying to me?â
âShe does!â Billy had lost interest in playing the loving father with Liliane. He had given her a chance. If Liliane had been willing to return the gift, he would have relented, even if it was only for show.
As Leah had said, Liliane was the daughter he had watched grow up. Despite the lack of blood ties, the bond and affection of a father-daughter relationship built over the years could not be easily erased.
However, Lilianeâs behavior made it clear to Billy that she truly took after Shane and Leah. She possessed their traits-money-driven, ruthless, and unscrupulous.
âWhat does Mom say then?â
Liliane refused to return her wedding gift to her father. She wasnât foolish. Having the money in her own hands was not the same as having it in someone elseâs.
Billy stated coldly, âLiliane, it doesnât matter what your mother says. What matters is that everything Iâve given you was based on the assumption that youâre my biological daughter. And youâre not. I can withdraw my gift at any time.â
Liliane was shocked. âDad, are you going senile? How could I not be your biological daughter!?
âYour biological father is Shane Hoyer, the same Shane who handed Estherâs son to you!â Malice and resentment filled Billyâs voice. âThe Shane who personally walked you down the aisleâ¦â
