As Anna spoke, her gaze fell upon Sunshine, who was in the distance.
âI donât know if you understand how I felt, Esther. Itâs like falling in love with them the moment you meet, for no reason at all.â
Esther allowed Anna to speak without interruption as Anna recounted her past experiences.
âI really like Sunshine and Twinkle. I often visited the church school because I later found out that Sunshine had a congenital heart condition. Fortunately, they found a suitable heart for her not long ago.
Otherwise⦠Sunshine wouldnât be able to live and play as she does now.â
âI understand.â Esther looked at Felix happily playing with Sunshine in the distance and smiled. âFelix also had health issues before. It wasnât until he had a bone marrow transplant that he could live and play like a normal child.â
Anna and Esther sat on a bench in the orchard. Anna looked at the two innocent and adorable children and whispered, âAt this moment, I donât have any expectations for them. All I want is for them to be healthy and happy.â
A pendulum swung back and forth inside Estherâs heart. She hesitated on whether she should. tell Anna what she knew.
In the end, she decided to take a chance.
âAnna, my son wasnât afraid because of the spider but because he saw someone he shouldnât have at the church school.â
Anna asked in shock, âWho?â
Esther then told Anna about her past experience of being kidnapped by Shane and discovering a team involved in organ trafficking when she escaped.
âMy son said he saw that man in black from before at the church school.â
Annaâs face turned pale with astonishment. She asked with disbelief, âAre you sure he saw the same person? Do you think itâs possible he recalled a horrible memory out of fear?â
âI trust my son, Anna. Iâm sure he saw the man in black in person.â
Esther took out her phone and showed Anna the web pages she had found.
âI looked up some information, and it seems the organ trafficking case disappeared entirely. Anna, I distinctly remember mentioning the organ trade when I gave my statement. So why wasnât it included in the public announcement of the case?â
Anna explained, âCould it be because they couldnât disclose it to the public due to security reasons?â
âOf course, thatâs also a possibility.â Esther changed the subject, hesitating. âBut Anna, the most important question now is whether they have entered Sunshineâs life. I donât know much about the church school, so I need you to think carefully⦠Can you recall anything suspicious about the school, like frequent cases of missing children?â
Anna casually picked a green lemon and brought it to her nose, inhaling its fragrance. She hesitated and said, âNo, there are rarely any missing children around the church. However there are adoptions. Still, the requirements for adoption are very strict. Itâs not easy to adopt a child.â
âWhat about after adoption?â Esther countered. âAnna, I witnessed how they conducted organ trafficking, and I believe Felix truly saw that person. The question now is whether the church is genuinely unaware. Maybe Iâm thinking too negatively about human nature, but is it possible that the church isnât truly adopting orphans but using it as a cover for their illegal activities?â
She didnât dare to continue because the thought was too terrifying.
After listening to Esther, Anna hesitated for a moment and then made Regardless, I have decided to adopt Sunshine and Pixie, Esther.â
âWill it be difficult?â
ק×× her mind.â
Anna shook her head. âItâs not particularly difficult, but I am getting older. In fact, it might be faster if you adopt them instead.â
âIâll do it then.â
Esther had met Twinkle and Sunshine before and had grown fond of the adorable twins. Perhaps it was because of Pixie and Tinkerbell, but Esther also hoped to help keep Sunshine and Twinkle away from danger.
âIf you decide to adopt them, there will be various procedures. But what if⦠And I only say this as an assumption⦠What if Bradley finds out youâre here?â
