Jacob sat on the sofa, his cold expression tinged with disdain. âThis transaction is consensual. I hope you keep your promise, Ms. Quill.â
Esther looked anxious, her gaze eager. âMr. Sanderson, donât worry. Iâll definitely keep my promise.â
âIn that case, you may leave.â
Anna and Benz exchanged glances and stood up together.
Esther hesitated for a moment, then called out, âWait.â
Jacob looked coldly at her. âYes?â
âCan I bring my son?â she asked.
Esther thought that Felix would worry about her if she stayed with Jacob. She wanted to test if Jacob would allow her to take Felix with her.
âNo.â Jacob gestured to a black-clad bodyguard. âPlease come with me.â
âAnna, take care of Felix and Sunshine for me,â Esther said.
Anna replied seriously, âDonât worry, Esther. Iâll take good care of the kids and wait for your good news.â
After everyone else left the room, Jacob casually picked up a book and began reading.
Esther did not know how to be a mother. She was still a novice, even in taking care of Felix.
Felix was just a little kid, so she could cuddle him while reading picture books or hold his hand. while playing with toys.
Faced with Jacob, Esther suddenly felt at a loss and panicked.
The air in the quiet hospital room was filled with tension.
Jacob furrowed his brows slightly and looked at Esther as he closed the book with slight annoyance.
âAre you nervous?â
Esther nodded, her hands fidgeting, and she sincerely said, âMr. Sanderson, you might not believe it, but this is my first time being a mother as well. I donât know how to interact with at child of your age.â
âJust do whatever you usually do with your child.â
Esther thought carefully about the time she spent with Felix and tentatively suggested, âHow about we make some supper together?â
âSure.â
Now that Jacob accepted her suggestion, Estherâs sense of unease instantly disappeared. She said lightly, âIâm pretty good at making ravioli. Do you want to try?â
âOkay.â
Esther looked around and found a small kitchen in the hospital room. She opened the fridge, but it was empty.
âIt seems thereâs not much food in the fridge. Should we go to the mini market together now? âshe asked awkwardly.
Esther then realized they were in a foreign country, not her homeland. There were 24-hour mini markets in her home country, but there might not be such stores here for safety reasons.
âWeâll go to the mini market in that case,â Jacob said and made a phone call.
Shocked, Esther got into the black car with the Sandersonsâ logo and headed to the mini market with Jacob.
The mini market had already closed, and the employees had all gone home. But with a single phone call from Jacob, the store reopened for business, and the staff returned to their positions.
