After ending the call with Esther, Xara looked at Steffanâs medical records. She could not fathom how the once energetic Steffan had become the way he was now. Could it be that a certain thing had deteriorated after being unused for a long time? Xara couldnât help but smile ironically at the thought. It seemed highly improbable.
Many women wished to be with Steffan. Who wouldnât want to reach the top? Perhaps it was these women who had, in their pursuit of securing their future, contributed to Steffanâs present condition.
With a deep breath, Xara steeled herself. Even if it was for Jacobâs sake, she needed to set aside her pride and ask Steffan to have another child with her.
After a quick shower, Xara changed into feminine lingerie and donned a floral tea dress. She checked her appearance in the mirror, applied a touch of perfume behind her ears and on her wrists, and took another deep breath.
Holding a bowl of soup, she gently rapped on the door to Steffanâs study.
Xaraâs heart pounded in rhythm with her knocks.
âCome in.â Steffanâs voice came from within.
Xara entered the study, carrying the bowl of soup. The room was filled with a rich floral fragrance.
âDo you need something?â Steffan asked coldly.
Xara took a step closer and placed the bowl of soup before Steffan.
âEsther just called me. She mentioned knowing a highly skilled holistic medicine practitioner. She asked if we would be willing to take Jacob to see her. Whether it works or not, it might buy us some timeâ¦â
Xaraâs gaze involuntarily shifted toward Steffanâs furrowed brow.
âAlso, I know a doctor specializing in menâs health issues, and youâ¦â
Steffan placed his pen on the desk and glanced at the soup in the bowl. He scoffed. âXara, are you getting impatient? A tonic soup? Seeking medical assistance? Are you about to propose in vitro fertilization?â
Upon hearing that it was tonic soup, Xaraâs eyes widened in shock.
âSteffan, are you crazy? This soup is from the kitchen. How would I know what soup it is?â
Steffan leaned back slightly and pushed the bowl of soup. âCome here.â
Xara asked warily, âWhat for?â
âIâll feed you the soup.â
Xaraâs hard-gathered courage dissipated in an instant.
âYouâre⦠crazyâ¦â
Xara turned to leave, but Steffan grabbed her delicate wrist and pressed her against the cold desk.
âSteffan, what are you doing?â
Steffan advanced on her, his steel grip on Xaraâs chin. His cold lips dominantly pressed onto Xaraâs cherry lips.
