Esther had a sudden premonition. She felt that her liver might be a match for Bradleyâs.
âWhat do you have to save him?â Kevin was furious and yelled, âEsther, have you truly gone mad? I donât want to talk to you anymore, and donât ask me to match you! Iâm a doctor! I wonât commit murder!â
After saying that, Kevin stormed out of the room and smacked himself hard in the face.
âKevin, why did you have to speak without thinking? Your mouth could have been used to save someoneâs life!
âWhy did you bring up Bradleyâs illness in front of Esther? You know she is a kind-hearted girl. How could she not want to help him, especially since heâs Felixâs father?â
Kevin was so frustrated with himself that he slapped himself twice more.
In the hospital ward, Esther used her phone to search for information about liver cancer. When she discovered that liver problems could cause extreme mood swings, she wiped away her tears, wondering if Bradley had been sick all along. She just hadnât realized it!
She recalled the past five years, ever since Thomas had his accident and Bradley took over the Warner Group. He had been under tremendous pressure from all sides, and Felix had also fallen ill, requiring a bone marrow transplant. Bradley probably hadnât had proper rest or relaxation during these five years.
Esther suppressed the bitterness in her heart and considered Bradleyâs current imprisonment. Having experienced imprisonment, she knew the conditions were terrible. Given Bradleyâs illness, it was clear he couldnât stay there.
âSadieâ¦â Esther murmured.
Sadie answered Estherâs call with concern, âWhatâs troubling you, Esther?â
âSadie, I want to visit Bradley at the detention center.â
Strangely, when Esther learned about Bradleyâs liver cancer, her initial reaction wasnât relief but rather concern. Her heart ached, and she struggled to catch her breath.
âEsther, why do you want to see him?â Sadie snorted and reassured her, âDonât worry. We wonât let him. stay in jail for Felixâs sake. Weâre just making him suffer a bit for now. Otherwise, heâll think you have no one backing you and that the Quills are easy to bully.â
âSadie, heâs sick!â Esther put a hand over her aching chest and sobbed. âHe has liver cancer.â
Sadie seemed not to have heard Estherâs words and asked in shock, âEsther, what did you just say?
Bradley has liver cancer?â
âYes.â Esther teared up.
Sadie reacted with great excitement. âHe deserves it. This is his retribution.â
âIs it really retribution?â Esther wondered. âWhat if I had not been framed back then? Would everything have turned out differently?â
âEsther, are you feeling sorry for him now?â Sadie asked.
Esther suppressed her pain and choked out, âHe is Felixâs biological father, after all.â
Sadie scoffed. âBradley never once considered you as Felixâs biological mother. If he had such thoughts, he wouldnât have repeatedly abused youâ¦â
After a pause, Sadie explained carefully, âEsther, as he is now, itâs safer for him to be in jail than outside. That Pendleton holds grudges. With how Bradley beat him up so badly, who knows how Bradley will meet his end once heâs released? If you truly want whatâs best for Felix, let Bradley stay in jail longer until all the storms outside have completely subsided.â
âAlright.â Esther understood perfectly well that Bradley had severely beaten the Pendleton wastrel.
