The man dressed in black wore a stern expression, hinting at his readiness to take drastic action if Esther declined to cooperate.
Esther gathered her courage, took a deep breath, and said, âIâll go with you.â
Concerned for Estherâs safety, Kevin offered to escort her protectively. âEsther, Iâll come with you.â
Chadwickâs past actions had left Esther deeply afraid. She knew that if Bradley hadnât arrived in time, she might not have escaped Chadwickâs grasp. Morally and ethically, she couldnât just stand by.
Chadwick was accustomed to luxury, so had an RV. His unsettling gaze sent shivers down her spine, and she felt an overwhelming urge to escape.
âPlease, Ms. Quill, take a seat.â
Esther stood hesitating at the vehicleâs entrance, unsure about boarding.
Chadwick poured a cup of tea and slid it across the table to her. âMs. Quill, this tea isnât spiked.â
He poured himself a cup as well.
Esther continued to hesitate outside the vehicle while Chadwick glanced at Kevin, who stood behind her. Mr. Slade, please wait outside for five minutes. I need to discuss important matters with Ms. Quill.â
Esther finally relented.
âWeâll discuss Bradley.â
At the mention of Bradleyâs name, Esther instinctively entered the vehicle and sat across from Chadwick.
âWhat do you want to talk about?â she asked.
Kevin attempted to enter the vehicle but was blocked by the man in black. âStep aside.â
The man in black added, âDr. Slade, Mr. Pendleton wishes to speak with Ms. Quill.â
Inside the vehicle.
Chadwick raised the hand Bradley had injured and asked leisurely, âEsther, how long do you think heâll be in jail for smashing my hand like this?â
Esther frowned and replied mockingly, âMr. Pendleton, we donât have the kind of relationship where we can sit together and have tea. What do you want to say?â
âBecause of you, the Quills are now attacking the Pendletons,â Chadwick calmly explained to Esther.
âThe Pendletons and the Quills fighting each other will allow others to reap the benefits.â
Esther was unaware the two families were fighting because of her. She could not help but worry about the Quillsâ situation.
âGet to the point.â
Seeing Estherâs impatience, Chadwick took another sip of tea. âEsther, marry me, and weâll call it even between me and Bradley.â
Esther picked up her cup and splashed the hot tea onto Chadwickâs face, which was already bruised from Bradleyâs attack.
1 âMr. Pendleton, get a grip!â
Chadwick wiped the tea off his face and looked at Esther with a smirk, his eyes filled with malice.
âEsther, youâd better understand how high of a chance the Quills have to beat the Pendletons!
âEven if the Quills do everything they can to bring us down, what makes you think there wonât be someone waiting to take revenge on the weakened Quills? If you marry me, the Pendletons and the Quills will merge into oneâ¦
