Bradley firmly held onto Estherâs slender waist with one hand, his eyes dangerously flashing as he warned, âDonât you dare move!â
Estherâs vision blurred with a dizzying array of colors. She felt disoriented, her eyelids drooping despite her best efforts to keep them open. Nevertheless, her body instinctively clung to Bradley as if he was her only refuge.
Gradually, Bradley sensed that something was amiss with Esther in his arms. He lowered his head and noticed her flushed face.
Gripping her chin firmly, he demanded, âEsther, are you pretending to be unconscious?â
The heat radiating from Estherâs skin burned Bradleyâs fingers and unsettled him. Panic briefly crossed his handsome face, and his eyes filled with confusion. âEsther, stop this act right now!â
Esther remained still.
In an instant, a wave of dread washed over Bradleyâs heart. Holding her tightly, he rushed out of the room and shouted for medical help. âDoctor! Nurse!â
The staff quickly responded to Bradleyâs desperate calls. They took Esther from his arms and provided immediate treatment. All the while, Bradleyâs gaze remained fixed on them, his voice filled with a threat.
âIf anything happens to her, you will all face consequences!â
Kevin hurriedly arrived and put his hand on Bradleyâs forehead, urging, âBradley, you need to calm down. Youâre obstructing the doctors.â
âKevin! How can you expect me to stay calm? Thatâs Esther!â
Kevin sighed and advised, âBradley, I trust the medical staff here. Yes, thatâs Esther, your wife. But have you considered why Esther is in this condition?â
âAnd it was all because Bradley cared only for himself, never considering Estherâs well-being,â Kevin thought.
Estherâs unfortunate fate with Bradley was a painful story. From giving birth in prison without proper postnatal care to her current precarious state, it was all due to Bradleyâs constant neglect. She had been continuously hurt, both physically and emotionally.
âKevin!â Bradleyâs eyes darkened, his expression fierce as if he wanted to devour Kevin whole. âAre you blaming me?â
Kevin slapped his own forehead and then spoke softly. âNo, blame me instead.â
Fortunately, Estherâs unconsciousness was caused by a high fever. The doctor gave her a fever-
reducing medication.
âMr. Warner, Dr. Slade. About Ms. Quill-â
Bradley interjected, âNot Ms. Quill. Itâs Mrs. Warner!â
Kevin rolled his eyes, at a loss for words.
The doctor shrugged, choosing not to argue with Bradley. âMrs. Warner has been weakened by her high fever. As her family, please take good care of her.â
âPlease, letâs not torment her. Nor the medical staff. Theyâre just doctors, not gods,â Kevin thought.
Bradley looked at Esther, frail on the hospital bed, and slowly approached her. âEsther, enough with the actâ¦â
Kevin pulled Bradley back, urgently pleading. âFor heavenâs sake, can you give Esther some peace and let her rest just this once?â
With the emotional roller coaster she had been on, couldnât she catch a break, even now?
