âMs. Quill is done with changing her dressing,â Jordyn said.
Jasper smiled in gratitude and said, âThank you.â
Looking at the handsome Jasper, Jordyn suddenly asked, âMr. Searle, are you looking for a girlfriend?â
Jasper was surprised by the abrupt question.
Jordyn realized her question had been too sudden, but she couldnât resist asking because Jasper was such an exceptional man.
âMr. Searle, if you ever want a girlfriend, consider me!â Jordyn smiled. âIâm quite fond of you.â
A man like Jasper, outstanding, graceful, and of high status, was hard for any woman to resist.
âAre you serious, Ms. Bancroft?â Jasper asked, puzzled.
Jordyn nodded and said sincerely, âAbsolutely.â
In fact, many women trying to catch Jasperâs eye secretly hoped to replace Esther in his heart, thinking it would be a step toward a successful life.
âI will seriously consider your proposal,â Jasper replied formally and cautiously, as was his way with confessions.
âThank you, Mr. Searle. I wonât be a burden in your life, I promise.â
âAlright.â
From then on, Jordyn became friendlier and more caring toward Esther. She believed that as long as Esther played matchmaker, Jasper wouldnât refuse.
Esther was concerned about Bradley and kept asking Kevin about his recovery, so she was unaware of Jasper and Jordynâs situation.
Luckily, Bradley was naturally robust, and his recovery was better than Esther had expected.
Although Kevin had kept the news of Chadwick and Estherâs wedding from Bradley, the latter sensed something was amiss from the nursesâ conversations.
Bradley seethed with anger but couldnât move freely to express it.
Once Esther was allowed to move around freely, she asked Jasper to take her to see Bradley.
Jasper, who always found it hard to say no to Esther, didnât decline. He and Jordyn accompanied Esther to Bradleyâs hospital room.
Esther stood at the door, looked at Bradley affectionately, and called, âBrad!â
When Bradley heard Estherâs voice, he was overcome with anger. âArenât you marrying Pendleton?
Why are you here?â
Hearing Bradleyâs scorn, Jasper couldnât hold back. âBradley, you know the situation. Why the sarcasm? Is this how a man behaves?â
Bradley responded with hostility. âAsk Esther. Sheâs been with you all this time. Has she even glanced at you? Pendleton just needs to snap his fingers, andâ¦â
Esther couldnât contain her frustration any longer and slapped Bradley hard. âBradley, must you insult me like this?â
Bradley licked the blood at the corner of his mouth and asked, âEsther, do you really think Iâd feel remorse for what youâve done-â
Jasper frowned and interrupted Bradley, âArenât you supposed to be grateful to Esther?â
âDid she donate her liver to me?â Bradley sneered. âIâm not like you, Jasper. I wonât be thankful for her petty gestures. Her so-
called sacrifices mean nothing to me.â
