After work, Natalie went to the supermarket to stock up on ingredients.
Of course, her bodyguard went with her.
âDo you want to come in and have dinner with us tonight? I promise I wonât poison you,â she said with a smile when they got home.
âItâs okay, Mrs. Larson. Iâll just wait by the door.â
The bodyguard blushed slightly and waved her hand in a hurry.
However, no matter how hard Natalie tried to change her mind, she insisted on staying by the door like a statue.
Natalie shrugged. She carried the grocery bags to the kitchen and started cooking. She hadnât been herself since she walked out of the Dracoâs office earlier that day. She absentmindedly sliced the vegetables, the silver blade making dull sounds as it hit the wooden chopping board.
With her eyes lowered, Natalie felt very sad at the thought that she mightâve been the one who leaked the design drawing.
And judging from what Draco had said, it seemed that he wanted to take the blame for her.
Natalie was a little surprised when he said that.
Why would he do that for her? When she opened the cupboard to take out some plates, her mind was elsewhere.
The plates in the cupboard fell out and shattered into pieces on the floor.
The crisp sound of porcelain breaking echoed in the empty house.
Natalieâs face turned pale.
Looking at all the broken plates on the floor, she squatted down to clean up. It just so happened that Brandon came home when the plates fell. He had heard the noises from the kitchen and quickly went to investigate.
As soon as he saw what had happened, Brandon immediately went to get down beside Natalie and quickly started to pick up the pieces of broken porcelain.
âLet me do it.â
âItâs okay. I was almost done,â Natalie said in a fluster.
She then cut her finger accidentally on a sharp edge.
âOuch!â she yelped and immediately threw away the broken plate in her hand.
There was an obvious wound on her finger, and bright red blood oozed from the cut.
Initially, Brandon was still angry with her.
Seeing the blood on her hand and the pitiful look on her face, he couldnât help but feel sorry for her.
While his tone was harsh, his expression had softened.
âDonât touch the open wound. It might get infected.â
He scooped her up and carried her to the sofa in the living room. Then he fetched the first aid kit and bandaged the small wound for her.
Staring at her bandaged finger, Natalie was in a daze.
Seeing that her mind was still elsewhere, Brandon sighed. He gently tucked a stray strand of hair behind her ear.
âYou are a designer. Your hands are your greatest tools. You should be more careful next time. Whatâs wrong? Did something happen at work?â
The only thing that could bother Natalie this much was work.
When Natalie looked at Brandonâs concerned face, she felt much better, but her voice was still wrought with melancholy..
âBrandon, tell me the truth. Was the hacker able to steal the information in my computer?â Brandon shook his head honestly.
âMy staff handled it. They said that nothing was leaked.â
Natalieâs eyes widened in disbelief.
âAre you sure? Youâre not lying to make me feel better, are you?â
âYou donât believe me?â Brandon asked with one eyebrow raised as he put the first aid kit away.
âNo, I believe you,â Natalie said quickly, grabbing his hand.
âI just didnât know if it was me who leaked that design...But if it wasnât me, who could it be?â Brandon stopped what he was doing and sat down next to her.
âWhat happened at work?â Brandon was really observant.
Natalie didnât need to say anything for him to figure out that there was trouble at the studio.
âThe design for one of our clients, Mrs. Fuller, was leaked somehow. Since my laptop was hacked, I thought it was me.! went to Mr. Wesley and told him everything. But he said he would take full responsibility and talk to Mrs. Fuller himself.â
After saying that, Natalie looked up into Brandonâs eyes and sighed.
âMr.Wesley said that if I admitted that it was me, itâd ruin my career as a designer.â
Of course, she knew that Draco was doing this for her own good, but she still felt terribly guilty.
âI thought it was me, so Iâve been beating myself up all day.But now that I know I wasnât the one who leaked the design draft. Iâm.
so relieved! I have to tell Mr.Wesley!â
Since Brandon was sure that nothing in her computer had been leaked, Natalie made up her mind to tell Draco first thing tomorrow morning.lt was someone else! It wasnât her! There was no need for Draco to shoulder the responsibility alone.
They had to find out who was really behind this! Brandonâs expression darkened.
âWhy do you care about him so much?â
Natalie looked up at Brandon in surprise.
Once again, he had misunderstood her.
âOf course I care about him,â Natalie started to explain hurriedly.
âBut I just see him as a mentor and a good boss. I donât like him that way. And I know that even if it wasnât me, Mr. Wesley wouldâve taken the blame for any of his designers.â
Hearing her defend Draco, Brandonâs expression grew even gloomier.
âCanât you see? Youâre special to him!â Brandon wasnât an idiot. He could see Dracoâs intentions clearly.
âMr. Wesley treats everyone equally. He is kind and just to everyone. He has even allowed a colleague who had jumped ship to come back to work in W Marks. Heâs just a good boss, okay?â Natalie said stubbornly.
She truly appreciated Draco from the bottom of her heart and didnât want Brandon to misunderstand.
Brandonâs frown tightened.
Natalie really seemed to like Draco.
However, as a man himself, he could see through Draco at a glance.
Draco clearly liked Natalie, although he was trying hard to hide it.
Moreover, the two saw each other every day at the studio.
Brandon needed to be on a let.
âSince Draco is such a good person, he can handle this.â
Smiling faintly, Brandon pinched Natalieâs chin.
âDonât worry about him.â
Then, he stood up to put the first aid kit back.
Sensing the sarcasm in his words, Natalie followed him out. She squinted at him and asked incredulously, âBrandon, are you jealous?â
Brandon put the kit back into the cupboard and denied, âNo.â
Then he changed the subject.
Pointing at the computer bag on the table, he said indifferently, âYour laptop has been repaired.Donât worry. I didnât pry.â
Brandon didnât forget to emphasize that last sentence.
When Natalie picked up the computer bag, she felt that the situation was a little funny. She asked bluntly, âWhy canât you just admit that youâre jealous?â
But Brandon simply ignored her and trotted up the stairs to retreat to his study.
âWhere are you going? I wanted to show you something first.â Natalie stopped him.
âItâs here, in my computer.â
