Chapter 482 As Kelly and Laney walked out of the manor, Kelly could sense the tension between Garrett and Vera.
Stepping forward, Kelly spoke on Veraâs behalf.
âMr. Harding, it has nothing to do with Mrs. Harding. We had no idea that our business partners would suddenly come to visit. This wasnât anticipated.
You canât blame your mother for it.â
Noticing Kellyâs eagerness to protect Vera, Garrett suspected that she was also involved. He looked at Kelly coldly.
âArenât you my secretary?â he asked.
âDo you also work part-time as a housekeeper for my family? I was receiving the business partners at the office, while you have time to attend this dinner party with Laney and my mother?â
He knew that Vera had arranged for Kelly to keep an eye on him, but he hadnât considered it a threat.
Since Kelly was able to keep those women he fooled around from badgering him, the arrangement had also reduced some of his pressures.
Now, however, he wanted to get rid of all these annoying people including Kelly, so that none of them could hurt Laney! Kelly was speechless.
Glancing at Kelly and Vera, he waved Laney over, saying, âCome here. Weâre going home.â
Laney, noticing Garrettâs anger, obediently walked over to him. By this point the driver had already stopped the car in front of them.
âGarrett, where are you going?â Vera asked.
She had remembered something Kelly had said, and was suddenly alert.
Kelly had told her that Garrett had a villa and was planning to move out with Laney.
âI used to turn a blind eye to these things, but I wonât anymore,â Garrett said firmly.
Taking Laneyâs hand, he continued, âLaney has sacrificed a lot for me. I wonât let her suffer any more.â
He then left, with Laney at his side.
Vera was in shock.
Garrettâs reproachful tone had left her angry and aggrieved.
How could he say such things to his own mother?! She had sacrificed for him more than Laney had ever done! Kelly was so surprised that she forgot to reach out to stop him.
Laney was led towards the car by Garrett.
As she was about to step into her seat, she noticed that one of the front headlights was broken, and there was a scratch in the paint beside it.
It looked as though the car had been in an accident.
Before she could ask anything, Garrett told the driver that he was off duty for the night, and then sat in the driverâs seat.
After getting in the car, Laney stayed silent.
She leaned back against the seat, eyes closed.
Assuming she was still angry, Garrett said âHoney?â a couple of times in quiet voice.
Laney didnât respond, so Garrett gave up and continued to drive in silence.
Afraid that Laney might catch a cold, he pulled the car over and covered her with a blanket. He then pulled back out onto the road and kept driving.
Laney, covered in the blanket, suddenly burst into laughter and turned to glare at him.
When Laney had heard what Garrett said to Kelly and Vera, sheâd wanted to laugh, but was also afraid that Vera would react poorly.
Seeing Laney cover her mouth and laugh happily, Garrett smiled.
âAt first, I thought that Iâd be able to finish the companyâs affairs well before the dinner party,â Garrett explained.
âI didnât realize until later that they were stalling for time. The reason I couldnât answer your call was that I was showing them around the office. Iâm sorry to make you suffer.â
Garrett held her hand and interlocked his fingers with hers.
Laney listened patiently and immediately felt much better.
Looking at the front of the car, she asked. âWhatâs wrong with the headlight?â
Garrett hesitated, clearly embarrassed.
âOn my way there, I received a message from Brandon. I got anxious and sped up, so... No worries though. It was just a small accident. The headlight was the only thing that was damaged.â
Laney was shocked.
âWhat?â she sputtered.
Shaking off Garrettâs hand, she said, âStop the car immediately.â
With his hands on the steering wheel, Garrett braked suddenly and asked, âHoney, whatâs wrong?â
Laney crossed her arms across her chest and sighed.
âListen, youâre a father now,â she said.
âYou should stop being so reckless.â
She was genuinely worried that something bad was going to happen to Garrett.
Taking several deep breaths, Laney tried to calm herself down.
Garrett unbuckled his seat belt and held Laney close, stroking her hair.
âDonât be angry,â he said.
âItâs not good for you or the baby.â
He kissed the top of Laneyâs head and promised, in a solemn voice, âI know. For you and our child, Iâll be more careful in the future.â
Garrett knew that only by taking good care of himself first, could he be able to take good care of his wife and their baby.
Laney sniffed and nodded.
Garrett took out a tissue and handed it to Laney. He wondered why sheâd been crying so much lately, and vowed to keep her happy in the future.
âIn the future, donât go to dinner parties like that without me. I promise I wonât let you suffer like this again.â
Laney was touched by Garrettâs sincerity. She trusted in his good nature and his love for her.

âYouâll have to endure it before that, though. But I promise it wonât be long, okay?â Laney smiled faintly.
âYour mother just wanted to test me, so she pulled this off. Donât blame her.â
She thought for a while, then added, âIt doesnât matter what she thinks of me. The most important thing is you. I want you to trust me and always remember that I love you. As long as weâre in this together, we can deal with everything hurled at us.â
Stunned, Garrett pushed his glasses up his nose and glanced at her.
âIâm so lucky,â he said appreciatively.
