Lesson One - Never Let Them Know Your Next Move.
It's been a week, a long one week since the North Side moved into our school. Well I couldn't really say it was just our school anymore but I guess I should explain.
Only the rich of the rich get to go to one of the two Rose Park High Schools. Forget what you've heard about Beverly hills this is where the true rich kids go.
Our school the South Rose park High school joined together with the North side and let's just say a week into it and not everything was going as well as the teachers had hoped. In my head I always knew that it would never turn out well. The two sides had never got on and it ran a lot deeper than the teachers could ever imagine.
A whole new school was built in the middle of the City just so that they could join the two schools together. I don't know what the City was thinking when they did it but here I sat watching as a brawl broke out in the middle of the lunch hall. Rolling my electric blue eyes already bored of the the sight in front of me, I stood up ready to walk out.
Looking at my twin brother Damon he was only a few tables over cheering them on, encouraging the fight. He was always the type of person to be in the middle of things. In fact he was normally the one to start them. I was pretty sure he had some sort of hand to play this brawl I just didn't know what.
Walking out the large double doors I noticed worried looking teachers running in trying to break up the fight but it was no good. The rest of the students were stopping them from getting through and a lot of the students didn't even glance at the yelling teachers.
None of us feared the teachers. They couldn't do anything to us, with our parents being able to pay them off from any threats they threw our way. It was the fifth fight of this day alone and I was sure it wouldn't be the last.
There was no chance that the North and South side were going to get on anytime soon. In fact I didn't see it happening at all but who was I to say anything.
In my eyes it was nothing more than a childish battle that I had long since stopped taking part in.
Having enough of this place for one day I started heading to my locker. Throwing the rest of my stuff in there I got out my car keys and left for the parking lot. The security looked at me from the corner of their eyes as I opened the front doors of the school. At first they looked like they were going to stop me but once they seen who it was they said nothing.
Almost acting like they hadn't seen me at all. They had just went back to walking up and down the halls. It was just a show really to make it look like they were getting paid for doing something when really they held no power, just like the teachers.
My parents paid for half of this school, they wouldn't dare rat on me.
No one could and no one would.
After all my dad pretty much paid half their wages, it was the reason they got paid so well to work here. No one in their right mind would want to work in this school without some sort of benefits.
We were a rebel bunch of kids with parents who had to much money.
The most perfect and worst type of combination of you asked me.
"Where are you going?" The voice was deep and luring as I walked out the doors of the school.
Looking over to my left slowly with boredom clear on my face I noticed Riker Kennedy through the blinding sun at the heart of the day.
Riker was leaning against the wall as he blew smoke into the air not even looking at me. Running into each other like this had become normal since our two schools joined together. After all we were at the very top of the food chain of the two schools.
People thought there was going to be some big power struggle against the two of us when we both were put under the same roof. What people didn't think about though was maybe I didn't want to play that game.
Games bored me when I knew I could win.
Riker was wearing a white tight top that clung to his muscles with black jeans and biker boots. Dog tags hung around his neck and an expensive looking watch on his wrist. He smirked at me when he noticed I was looking him over but I didn't care. I was allowed to look after all.
It wasn't like I hadn't caught him doing the same to me a few times.
Riker Kennedy was bad news no matter where you heard the name. If his name was mentioned in whatever it was you were doing then you better take a good hard look at yourself. After all there was a chance you wouldn't be coming out of the situation the same person as when you walked in.
His family was full of secrets, no one truly knew how they worked or got their money. Secrets was what you needed in this world to survive but they could also be your down fall. He thrived in them and there was something about that which I admired.
Having secrets not only let you control your own fate but it also let you control other peoples.
Everyone has their own secrets no matter how much you tried to hide it.
Secrets were a dangerous things.
"That's none of your business." I replied as I continued walking down the white stoned steps.
My parents really went all out with paying for this place. My father only paid for the best. There wasn't anything my dad would cutback on. The perks of being a billionaire and in the future it would be all mine.
That was my fate.
I sensed Riker walk behind me before he threw his arm over my shoulders. The tattoos on his right arm were clear to my eyes as he did so. It also wasn't the first time he had done something like this from the two schools had joined together.
The first time he had thrown his arm over my shoulder was in the hallway and I swear the whole school stood still. They wanted to see what would happen between Lyra Anderson and Riker Kennedy. Two teenagers from the two most powerful families in the country.
"Everything in this place is my business Princess." He whispered into my ear. It would be a lie if I said he didn't have an affect on me right there and then.
After all Riker Kennedy was famous for his good looks. Normally he would be someone I went for but he was a Kennedy and on top of that he was also from the North side.
So no fucking thank you.
That spelt trouble and I had enough of that in my life right now.
Turning around I grabbed the dogs tags around his neck and pulled him closer making him bend down to my eye level.
Their was a name on the tags but I couldn't make it out as I quickly snapped my eyes to his.
There was that infamous smirk plastered on his face that sharpened his jawline. That look of his was famous in the news and most of all with the law enforcement. When that look crossed the lips of Riker Kennedy you just knew you were in for a world of trouble.
What he didn't know, was that I could play this little game a lot better than him. After all I was Lyra Anderson.
Future Queen of this fucking City.
"Well then, in your business think of me as the wild card." I whispered and with that I give him a quick kiss on the lips. "You never know what I might do."
Scoffing slightly at his shocked expression I turned around and acted like nothing happened. Out of his sight though my lips turned into my own grin knowing I had won this little battle of ours.
He clearly wasn't expecting me to stand up against him. I couldn't blame him the world never knew what I was going to do. That's why the paparazzi loved to follow me around so much. They could always get a killer story from my family, that was if they could find it.
Riker thought he was playing a game with me but what he didn't know was that I could play it just as well as he did. I knew what he was trying to do. He was a player after all but what he didn't know was that I would be the one girl that could beat him at his own game before it even started.
Knock them down before they even notice that there is a game to be played. When they finally realise what's going on they can never recover then because you're already three steps ahead.
Having overheard him and his friends talking the other day, I had heard them placing beats on the first one from the North side to sleep with me.
Don't get me wrong I wasn't a virgin or anything and I enjoyed having a bit of fun like the next person but I wasn't about to be a game piece in someone else's game.
No I made the games and they were my pieces.
Getting into my BMW I8 I turned the car on and smiled to myself as the engine roared to life. I wasn't going to lie I was such a car junkie. Being able to take apart and build a car from scratch was a skill of mine.
It was the joy of growing up with 4 older brothers.
Also unlike most idiots I could drive a manual car it was more fun and you felt like you were in control more.
Control was always the key to anything to life. You might not be able to always control the things around you but you can control how you react to things.
Pulling out of the space I sped off down the road. If Riker wanted to play a game I was more than willing to play. After all I needed a bit of fun in my life right now but I would only be playing with my own rules.
Rules he was yet to find out.
*************
A few hours later my brother came home with our friends. I had forgotten I had given them a lift to school today.
Skylar ran up to me and pulled me into a suffocating hug. Laughing I hugged her back but after a few seconds I wasn't able to breath. The feeling of my chest get tighter and tighter was unbearable and her strawberry blonde hair getting in my face wasn't helping either. For such a small girl she sure did have muscles.
"Sky..... Let me go." Chocking out air I hoped she would get the message but that just made her hug me even tighter. After a few more seconds of torture she let go with an evil glare on her face.
It was payback that was clear to the eye.
"That's for leaving me you bitch." She then pouted like a child. "You could've busted me out too you know."
Of course that's what she would be mad at me for. Sky's parents took her education very seriously. Unlike me and my brothers who were going to be handed our fathers company because its been passed down through generations her parents were making her earn it. After all her parents came from nothing and built their empire from the ground up.
There was something to respect about that Sometimes I wished my dad pushed me a bit more but at the same time Sky's parents took it to far sometimes.
Sitting down on the couch Jake one of my other friends lied across mine and Sky's lap. Playing with his chocolate brown hair just happened automatically.
Jake was gay and we had been best friends since we were born. His parents didn't take it so well when he came out but my family was supportive and my mom and dad made his family come around to it. Saying their ways were outdated.
It was one of the few times my mom was actually helpful in a situation.
"Why did you leave little sister? You used to love a good brawl." Damon asked as he sat down on the couch across from us stuffing his face with whatever food he was able to find in the kitchen. I was pretty sure the cooks hadn't even started to make dinner yet so go knows what he was eating.
"Yea you should've seen me I had that blonde bitch Emily on the ground." Sky laughed as she threw out her fists in a punching motion. I knew she had done anything but that. Sky was too nice for her own good. One of the other girls had probably got Emily on the ground and Sky tried to help her up. Even if it was someone she hated Sky had to help everyone.
Sometimes I thought I should take a page from her book. Then I would remind myself who I am.
"Because don't you think it's getting a bit tiring with there being a fight around every corner." As I responded I poked Jake on the forehead and he stuck his tongue out at me making me laugh.
"No me and the guys are loving life right now with it all." Rolling my eyes at the mention of the other guys from the South side it reminded me of Zane. He also happened to be my ex and he currently wasn't even in the country. Not that I was complaining.
"Of course you idiots are."
"Here are you still throwing that party tonight?" Asked Jake changing the subject. He knew me and my twin brother would probably get in a heated argument about the situation if it wasn't dropped soon.
It did the job because I frowned and looked at my brother. I didn't know he was throwing a party tonight and judging by the look on his face he didn't want me to know until it was to late. His electric blue eyes look at me like he had just got caught stealing from the cookie jar.
Throwing parties was in my second nature but our dad was coming home tomorrow for a few days and he hates coming back to a messy house.
It was the only time the man is ever really strict with us. The last time I threw one, he took away my credit cards and wouldn't let me drive my cars for a month. I didn't care about my cards, my cars on the other hand was a different matter.
The man sure knew how to punish me that was for sure.
"Dad is going to kill you."
Damon rolled his eyes, the same coloured eyes I have. It was one of the few things that were identical between us. "The old man won't know."
"The 'old man' is back at 1. So you're telling you can get this house tidy and free of the smell of alcohol with a hangover might I add before he's back?"
Damon looked thoughtful as he looked around. Our house wasn't on the small sizes at all with 3 floors and 10 bedrooms. Never mind all the other rooms in between that. I could also bet that the cleaners would take one look at the mess and walk straight out the door. I should know they did it to me before when I did it.
I couldn't blame them for that.
"You're helping." He looked at me with a thousand dollar smile but it didn't affect me. I wasn't a sucker. Growing up with his shit along with my other brothers, I knew trouble when I see it and my brother was inviting it right onto our doorstep.
"Am I fuck." Pushing Jake off me he complained about being moved from his comfortable position but I ignored him. "You didn't help me the last time. In fact you left and went to New York with your play thing of the month."
"Oh yea. She was a good lay." He seemed to laugh at the memory before it dawned on him. "I'm so going to get killed aren't I?" It wasn't really a question but I answered anyway.
"Oh yea." Getting up from my seat I started to walk out of the room having enough. It wasn't long before Sky and Jake got up and started to follow me as well. We walked up the stairs making our way to my room.
"I wish I had your parents." sighed Sky as she collapsed onto my king sized bed. The neat sheets were now crumpled under her body as she spread herself out.
"Why?"
Grabbing the remote I turned on the TV as Jake went over to my mini fridge to see if there was anything to drink. There was everything I needed in my room. There was no doubt I could live in here for days without having to leave.
It was goals in life I swear to God.
"Well your dad is rarely home but at the same time if you ever need him he'd be on the first flight back here." She rolled over and hugged one of the many pillows on my bed. Looking at me as I flipped through the channels.
"You seem to forget my mother is a gold digger though."
My mum has been married four times. My dad was her first marriage and it seemed to just go downhill from there. There was no memories of me living in the same house as my mother. I was young when my parents broke up not that I was complaining we didn't really get on anyway.
"Yea but your mom is still pretty cool." Remarked Sky. There was only one reason why she was saying that though. It was the one thing that would get you straight into Sky's heart and my mother was in the middle of it all.
Fashion.
"It's only because she owns her own clothing line that's why you love my mother so much. I always give you the stuff because I don't want it when she sends it to me."
There was credit to give to my mother. She did try to be in my life but I wasn't interested at all. She didn't want to me in my life for a normal mother daughter relationship. She wanted to be in life for the publicity that it would bring.
There was no way I was going to play that game with her.
My mother always wanted to be on the front page of magazines or to be on the main story of the news. She always said publicity was still publicity no matter how good or bad it was. She's messed up in the head if you asked me but we all were in a way I guess.
"Which is why I have to love her so shhhhh. Let me have my moment. I like free stuff who doesn't." Smiled Sky as she flipped through a fashion magazine that had being lying on my bedside table. I don't even know why it was there I didn't read them. It was probably hers from the last time she was here.
Bumping her shoulder slightly with mine as I laughed and sat down beside her. Sky would always make my laugh. She and Jake were two of the most normal things in my life. Well as close to normal as I could get in the life I lived.
"So what are we watching?" Asked Jake as he climbed over the top of me to sit between me and Sky.
Friendship was something that should be treasured more so when you have the right type of friends.
