Lesson Twenty-Three - The Most Dangerous Person Is The One Who Listens, Thinks And Observes.
Bullets were flying everywhere. I was pressed to the ground behind my car with Riker basically lying on top of me firing bullets back. I could feel his heartbeat doing 90 through his chest. His wasn't out of panic like mine though, his was through adrenaline.
I could hear Sky screaming from inside the car and it made my blood run cold. I wanted to do nothing but get up and get in the car with her, to comfort her. She had been through so much lately and now this was happening. I had a feeling though that me and Sky weren't the target. It was Riker and possibly my brother.
Soon I could hear another set of tires coming towards us and looked under my car to see that it was my brothers Ferrari. He slid the car to a stop between mine and the SUV stopping most of the bullets from getting anywhere near us.
"Are you ok?" Riker quickly looked me over as I nodded. When he seen I was fine he quickly got up off me reloading his gun. I looked at him like he was crazy, we should be trying to get out of here not him going out their to continue fighting.
"Lyra!" I heard my brother shouting as he fired bullets in the direction of the SUV. "Get out of here with Sky we've got this!"
Was he fucking crazy? I've been through situations like this before as sad as it sounds. I did go out with Zane Knight after all. My life was always at risk when I was around him. Now it seems like it was no different.
I grabbed the car keys that were in my front pocket and quickly scrambled to my feet getting to the door of my car. A bullet flew past my head and and froze for a second. So easily I could've been dead right there.
"Lyra!"
Riker's voice snapped me out of it and I ran to the door and got in. I was so happy all of our cars were bulletproof. My dad always took our safety as main priority. I always thought he was over protective but now I loved the man even more for it.
Looking over at Sky I could see that she had her head down as she sat in the seat. Her hands were covering her ears and her face wet from tears. I needed to get her out of here.
Starting the engine I looked up and seen Riker and Damon hiding behind his own car. I still couldn't see who was in the SUV but I guessed that was the point. Then it clicked, I couldn't leave them here. That wasn't who I was.
"Sky." I said shaking her to try and get her attention on me. "Sky!" I shouted when she ignored me the first time. This time her head snapped up and looked at me.
"What?" She asked flinching when another bullet hit the car.
"Swap with me."
I could see the confusion on her face but I was already leaning over to get into the passenger side. Quickly she climbed over leaving me on the passenger side. I put my hand under the seat feeling around trying to find the gun that would be hiding under there. I knew my dad to well to know there would be one under here.
"What are you doing?" Asked Sky placing both her hands on the wheel. She seemed to have calmed down a bit now that I was in here with her.
"Trying to-" My hand finally wrapped around the gun and I pulled it out. It was just a simple handgun but that's all I needed. I loaded it with the bullets and clicked it closed.
"What are you going to do?"
"Drive around so that the boys can jump in, the tires on Damon's car have been shot. They can't get away in that. We need to help them."
"Do you even know how to use that?" Sky eyed the gun carefully almost like I would shot her by accident. Who knows it was a possibility. Joke, I think anyway.
"Zane trained me with them and my dad used to bring us out hunting when we were kids."
"Zane taught you?"
"We don't have time for this Sky." I said reminding her that we were being shot at.
"Oh, right." She said starting the engine.
I jumped into the back of the car and let the window go down. Carefully I aimed my first shot. Right through the open window of their SUV. I fired the gun and I felt my body jump back in reaction. It had been a while since I used a gun, which was probably a good thing in life.
After letting another few bullets fly through the air the people in the SUV finally stopped. There was silence for a few seconds and all I could hear was my own heavy breathing and guns being reloaded.
I braced myself for the next round but it never came. The SUV just rolled up it's windows and I watched as the tires spun off. Who ever the driver was clearly knew what they were doing.
Looking over at the two boys I could see there heavy breathing with their chests rising up and down. Looking off into the distances, almost like they were waiting for the people to change their minds and come back.
What I noticed even more though was that Riker was holding his right bicep. Blood was sleeping through his finger tips and down his tattooed arm. He didn't look bothered by it, more annoyed if anything. I sighed in slight relief though when I seen that Damon was ok. I didn't know if my heart would be able to handle something happening to him. He was my twin brother after all.
I opened the door of the car and ran over to Riker and Damon. Quickly I gave Damon a hug letting him know I was fine. I could see him checking me over to make sure I wasn't hurt in anyway.
"Where's sky?" He asked and I nodded over to the car. My brown hair falling slightly over my face. I'm sure I looked a right mess right now. Damon though ran over to the car to check on Sky. There was definitely something going on between them, doesn't matter if they said it or not.
"Are you ok?"
Riker was looking over me carefully. I could feel his stormy cloud grey eyes scan me over and finished by looking me dead in the eyes. It wasn't me we should be talking about. He was bleeding from the wound on his arm.
"You need to get that checked." was all I said as I glanced at his arm. His grip seemed to tighten on it and he gave me a stern look.
"I can't go to the hospital. There will be to many questions, questions I don't want to answer."
I was going to open my mouth when Damon shouted back at us. "Come to ours and we'll get you cleaned up."
Riker slowly nodded in my brothers direction but his eyes never left mine. I went over to the boot of my car and lifted out a new shirt I had just bought and handed to it Riker.
"I'm cool with you ruining my shirt but I can't afford you getting blood all over my dads car." I said as he just smirked and took the shirt from my grip.
"Speaking off cars." Trailed of my brother as he looked at his own car. It might have been bullet proof but that didn't stop the damage that was caused right now. The paint work was ruined and the tires were shot out. It wasn't going anywhere any time soon that was for sure.
"I'll phone the guys and they'll sort it. Let's get out of here." Riker said as he finished wrapping the shirt around his arm.
Sky and me nodded in agreement and walked towards my dads car. After a few seconds of arguing with Damon on who was driving I got in the drivers seat with Sky in the passenger seat. The two boys were in the back in there own worlds. I could see Riker thinking about everything that has happened. I felt like he knew who it was from the start.
"Who were they?" Asked Sky. In the rear view mirror I could see the guys shift uncomfortable with the question.
"Probably some kidnapers." I told Sky. The boys had probably had enough for one day. "Wouldn't be the first time something like this has happened to us Sky."
She nodded in agreement her blonde hair falling out of its ponytail slightly. "Yea right enough, sure you were captured not that long ago."
I was kind of thrilled that she had bought the lie and I knew I shouldn't have been but I didn't want her to get dragged into everything. She had enough going on right now without this shit.
The rest of the drive was quiet. Sky and Damon were just looking out the windows but Riker was on his phone texting. I heard his phone go off a few times with someone trying to ring him but he was quick to hang up without talking. He probably didn't want to talk in front of me and Sky.
As I drove up to the front of our house our butler Richard came out and looked at the car in shock. There was scratches From where the bullets had hit it.
"What happened?" He asked looking us all over. His eyes landed on Riker's arm but Riker shifted and tried to hide it. Nothing got past Richards eyes though.
"Can you help me get the car fixed before dad sees it?" I asked walking up the steps to him. His gaze shifted back to mine and it was a stern look. He was basically like a second parent to me and I knew I was going to get a ear full about this later.
"Of course I'll get the boys to bring it around back." He rested a hand on my shoulder as he walked past me. "We will talk more about this later." I flinched slightly at his words but nodded. For some reason Richard always made me freak out more than my actual parents when I got in trouble. Maybe because he always put up with our shit, so when he actually did tell us off you knew you were in trouble.
Walking into the house I looked over at Riker. "Come on we need to get that arm looked at."
He looked behind him to see if Sky or Damon heard but they were to busy in their own conversation to even notice or car. Turning back to me he nodded his head and I lead the way to the closest bathroom.
