Lesson Two - If They Stand Behind You, Protect Them. If They Stand Beside You, Respect Them. If They Stand Against You, Defeat Them.
Looking over my balcony with a knowing look on my face, I knew what was going to come tomorrow when our father came home.
My brother was so dead, there was no way to put it nicely and frankly I didn't want to. I should maybe start planning his funeral now.
What would his grave stone say? Maybe something like 'Here lies the the most idiotic sibling of the Andersons. May be rest in semi peace."
Don't want him to be to peaceful after all. That can get dull.
Now I know what you're going to say. Yes I did have a party before dad came home once but it was nothing like this. There was no doubt I could place my money on the fact that Damon didn't even know more than half these people.
The problem wasn't that it was people he didn't know, I knew they where from the North side and that didn't spell out good news. As soon as that piece of information was noticed by the rest of them all hell would break lose.
Watching my brother as he dived into the pool without a care in the world everyone else cheered him on. They were acting like he was a God, patting him on the back and lifting him up onto their shoulders. My brother was basking in the attention like he always did. He was like the rest of my brothers, always wanting to be in the heart of it all. It was in the Anderson genes that was for sure.
Our mother was to blame for that one.
"Ohhh that looks like fun. Can we please go down there." Sky begged knowing that I didn't want anything to do with my brother's pending death. If I went down there my father would hold me responsible to, as Damon would be quick to say I was there.
He was such a traitor at times. Not that I wouldn't do the same thing if I was in his shoes. I would just be a lot smarter about it than he would.
Sky knew it wouldn't take much begging for me to go down there. I was a rebel child after all and if I loved anything it was a party. The only thing that had me in two frames of mind was that it was Damon's party.
Every time I got involved in one of his parties I normally ending up in the middle of something because of him. What ever trouble he got himself in I wasn't normally that far behind him.
We were twins after all, you start something with one of us the other one is going to show up.
Last time he threw a party his plaything of the week caught him kissing another girl and she slapped him.
Now my brother would never hit a girl but she had hit him a lot harder than she needed to and they weren't even going out. The smug look on her face though after she hit him and knowing that he couldn't do anything about it was what pushed me over the edge.
So I did what any good sister would do for their brother. I punched her square in the face, breaking her nose. Our dad had to pay for the hospital bills and her parents were threatening to sue but I didn't care. No one would be allowed to think they would get one up on my brothers and get away with it.
"Please Lyra you know you want to go down there."
Sky was throwing me the puppy dog eyes and with her light blue eyes and baby face she knew I couldn't resist it when it came to her. She had these big doe like eyes that just got her everything she wanted and most of the time got her out of things as well. That and her innocence in any situation.
We both knew I wasn't stopping her or Jake from going down there but they were loyal. They wouldn't do something that I wasn't doing myself but that didn't mean they wouldn't try and torture or blackmail me to do it.
"You know I'll get killed along with my brother if I go down there." Even to me I sounded like a child who was complaining about their pending doom.
It was tempting but I knew what my dad could do when he was pissed and I was not fully willing to lose my babies again. Do you know the pain I had to go through when I couldn't work on my cars for a month. It almost drove me mad. That's not even a lie.
My older brother Alex was worried about me when he came to visit. I was rolled up in my bed looking like death. Normally he was the one to ignore my over exaggerated moments as well.
"But it looks like so much fun." She whined back dramatically lying down on the ground holding my leg like a child as she looked through the railing of my balcony. I almost tripped when I tried to walk away as she just gripped onto my legs even tighter stopping me from going anywhere.
"I didn't know you were so scared of your dad."
Turning in time I seen Jake strip down to his boxers making me raise my eyebrow at him in response. My best friend was built with lean muscle. He was on the football team after all and even I had to admit my best friend was good looking with his messy dark chocolate hair and six pack.
If it wasn't for the fact he was gay I would have definitely gone for him. I've told him this as well. Maybe that's why he was gay, I was one scary girl when I wanted to be.
"What are you doing?" Asked Sky as she sat up on the ground and crossed her legs like a five year old watching their older sibling before they got in trouble. I'm pretty sure I gave my older brothers that look when I was younger and was watching them do stupid shit that I wanted to be a part of.
"We both know you want to go down there Lyra and I like to make an entrance so if you don't mind."
Watching my best friend as he walked over to the railing of the balcony he didn't even stop think with a second thought as he jumped over it. A gasp was heard from Sky as she watched him dive into the pool that was just below.
There was a moment of deathly silence before everyone erupted into cheers. Rolling my eyes I looked away from the pool. Leave it to Jake to look for attention just as much as my brother. Being a part of the football team he was already a hit with everyone.
Looking back over the railing Jake came above the surface calling us down waving his arms about like a madman. Everyone's attention seemed to snapped to me and Sky as people seemed to notice for the first time that I was in the house. They started to chant my name over and over and I even seen Damon join in with them.
There was smug look on his face as chanted with the others though. He knew he had won and that he wasn't going to go down for this party alone.
As I looked around the crowed though it just made it more clear which ones were from the North side as they stood and looked up at me with a blank expression on their faces. I didn't know what their game was but I knew I wouldn't like it.
Everything they did was something I didn't like.
"Can we go down now?" Begged Sky even more determined now. "We can't leave him down there without us."
Jake would be perfectly fine without us down there with him. My brothers wouldn't let anything happen to him anyway even Damon in his drunken state. Jake was family and Anderson's always protected family. What I didn't like the thought of was him being down there with the North side being about.
As much as I didn't actually mind Riker and his annoying habit of torturing me at every turn, I didn't trust the rest of them. Even the most well trailed soldiers disobeyed orders when their commanders back was turned.
"Fine." The sound of defeat was in my voice. Even though I made it sound like a chore we both knew I wanted to be down there with the rest of them. I guess I would just have to take the punishment again when my brother ratted me out to save his own skin.
We all knew he would do it after all I would do it to him.
We might protect each other from the rest of the world but protecting each other from our father wasn't something we were willing to risk. We were brave not stupid.
After changing and putting on a pair of ripped skinny jeans and white crop top I walked down the black and white marble staircase with Sky not that far behind. She commented saying we should jump over the balcony to but when I dared her to do it she took one look and backed out.
Sky wasn't the biggest fan of heights in the first place, I was more surprised she had mentioned doing it.
It took us a while to get down the stairs I don't know why people stood on the stairs when they were drinking, it was like the most random place ever. There was also something that caught my eye and a plan started to form in my head on how I could get away with all of this.
When we finally got to the kitchen to get a drink my brother was there getting his own. As we walked over I couldn't help but narrow my eyes at him as a grin crossed over his features.
He had won and he knew it.
"Well, well, look who finally came down from her hole." He grinned handing me a drink. "I knew I wouldn't take the fall for this myself."
The feeling of knocking my brother out in that moment crossed my mind but with our dad coming back tomorrow I didn't want to get into even more trouble.
Being able to survive a month without my babies was one thing but any longer and I might actually die. There was a way I might actually get away with everything though. It was something I was kind of relying on in this moment.
"You do know I might actually get away with it right?"
Slowly I watched as my brothers face fell but not fully, he didn't believe me and I wasn't surprised he didn't. "How will dad know? You have a track record for this stuff. In fact more than I do. The rest of the world might not know it but this family does and dad wouldn't fall for it." I watched as he grinned almost like he thought he won.
This was always a game between us. To see who could out do who.
"Because there is writing on the hallway saying 'Damon's party rules'." My voice was blunt and laced with facts as I pointed out of the kitchen door to prove my point on where it was. With my other hand I took a sip of my drink grinning through the glass at him.
Laughter was at the tip of my tongue as I watched my brothers face completely fall. It was like the reality of the situation just hit him. Never before had I seen someone sober up so quick in my life it. It was like someone had just thrown an bucket of ice cold water over him.
"You're lying." There was a million emotions running through his eyes all of them bringing up the same conclusion.
He was dead.
"Oh dear brother." Grinning I spoke up loud and clear. "I'm not. Go look for yourself." With that he ran out of the room pushing people out of his way. Some of them went to protest at being pushed but quickly shut their mouths when they seen who it was.
"He's going to get killed isn't he?" Asked Sky as she handed me another drink that she had been getting when she had seen I finished my other one.
"Oh yea."
*****************
It was now 1 o'clock in the morning. For a moment I thought about how we only had 12 hours to get the house cleaned and tidied before dad walked in through the door. As I looked around the reality of the situation was pretty clear. We were never getting this place cleaned.
It was an impossible mission before the whole party even happened and I knew it. In fact I had placed a bet on it. Taking the last sip of my drink I thought fuck it, I was due to get in trouble again anyway.
As I went to get another drink I noticed someone standing only a few feet away. His presence enough told me who it was without much concentration.
Riker Kennedy.
Even in my drunken haze I knew that wasn't a good thing. I was well aware that the North side were here but having Riker Kennedy here with them was not good news. In that second I knew this wasn't going to end well. He was only going to be here to make trouble.
There was no such thing as a simple drink when Riker was in the house. That one thought made me sober up like my brother had when he found out about the wall.
Walking closer to him my eyes narrowed when I noticed there was more North side ones drinking beside him. They all needed to get out of my house. There was a tolerance for them before I found out Riker was here because that was the one thought that made me think they wouldn't do anything.
With him here though it was a different matter all together. They were here to cause trouble I just knew it.
"What are you and your North Side dogs doing here?" My tone was a complete warning to Riker not to fuck with me. My throat was harsh from all the alcohol I was drinking but that didn't stop me from getting my message across. Riker turned and looked at me with his infamous smirk. Of course he was smirking, that's all he did.
He was wearing a black top and dark jeans. His hair was a mess on top of his head but in a stylish way and for a moment I wanted to do nothing but run my hands through it. Calming myself from that thought I told myself it was just the alcohol talking. Even having a thought like that in my head could bring trouble that I didn't have time for.
"We wanted to see how the South side party." He looked around emphasising his point his arms wide and a beer bottle in his tattooed hand. "I'm actually impressed by the way."
"Good. Now get out." Grabbing the bottle from his hand I shoved it into the arms of some random girl who was walking past. She didn't say anything as she seemed to notice the situation and kept walking.
"Now, now is that anyway to talk too or treat your guests." A few of his friends laughed from beside him. It made me narrow my eyes even more at them. I wasn't in the mood for their teenage girl moments. If I didn't act like that then neither should they.
"I don't see any guests. All I see is the unwanted stray animals that have come from the streets."
"Wow princess that hurt." He placed his hand over his heard he proving a point but I knew he was anything but hurt. He was taunting me, everything he was doing was to try and get a rise out me. He was pushing his luck because Zane wasn't here.
What he didn't know was that I could be worse than Zane.
My brother was going to flip once he worked out the North side were here and that was the last thing I needed. We were going to get killed enough never mind something kicking off in our own house. I really needed to stop thinking about going to get killed by our dad. It was going to happen anyway no matter how this turned out.
As I looked around though I seen more and more North side ones now that I looked at them properly. In fact I'm pretty sure half the people here were. That's why there was so many people I didn't know. They got in without us knowing, just how many of them was there?
Turning around to the sound of someone whistling, I noticed that it was Riker with his finger still in his mouth a large grin crossed his features as he lowered his hand.
As our eyes classed I already knew I had lost this round of the war because for a moment it was silent before all hell broke lose.
Well fuck my life.
**************
It only took twenty minutes but twenty minutes was all that was needed for the North side to do the damage. Then when me, Damon, Sky and Jake finally got everyone out the damage looked a hundred times worse.
The drunken haze was now completely gone. The harsh cold reality of the situation was now setting in and I didn't like it. There was no doubt I should've just stayed in my room. It was the safer option and I didn't listen to my gut. Always listen to your gut.
"We should move. Like right now." Commented my brother panic written all over his face as he looked around more and more.
The more he looked though the more the panic on his face came apparent. This was defiantly the worst situation the house has ended up in after one of our parties.
All over the walls the words North side were written in red paint. Broken glass was everywhere and I knew for a fact I never wanted to go swimming in the pool out the back ever again. It was green and smelt so bad I couldn't even stand near it for more than ten seconds. I don't know what they did to it but the whole thing needed ripped from the ground.
Riker's stupid smug face wouldn't get out of my head. All he did was stand there and let them destroy my house. I had argued with him to try and get them to stop but he did nothing but stand and watch me yell at him. There was no point in me sticking around to see what he done after because I went to try and waken the security guards that me and brother had given the night off to.
Frankly I should've gotten them the moment I had seen the North side. Honestly I thought they wouldn't do anything because Riker wasn't here.
He was so going to pay for this. Revenge was going to be sweet mark my words on it.
First though. Surviving the next 24 hours first was going to be the hard part. I'm not going to lie when I thought I should leave the country like Damon had recommended.
There was also the fact that I was never going to see my babies ever again the moment my father walked in through those doors. Hell he didn't need to walk in through the doors, you can see what happened from the gates starting at the driveway.
"So I think me and Jake are going to go." Slowly I watched as Sky and Jake started to back out of the room. The urge to grab them and make them help us ran through my mind but even I knew there was no point.
There was no way we were getting this cleaned up by the time dad got back. I didn't even think there was a point in trying at this point. We would probably one get one room cleaned in the hours that we had left.
"Byeeeeee." Said Jake in a singsong voice with a wave in my direction as they ran out the door.
When we heard the door slam shut one of my fathers most expensive and prized painting fell off the wall and ripped against the stature below it. You honestly wouldn't need to pay us to have our family as a reality show. Just stick cameras around the house and let the madness begin.
"We are so dead." I could do nothing but nod at my brother comment.
