Lesson Thirty-One - Family First No Matter What. They Don't Need To Be Blood Though Remember That.
I'm pissed off. I mean royally pissed off. I seem to be just a bad tempered bitch lately but people just keep annoying me. It was official. I needed to go and live on some abandoned island, far, far away from everyone. It was the only way to make sure human population survived.
I knocked my car down a gear as I took over one of the many cars on the street, cars honking at me at every turn. I didn't care though, I was well past caring.
I could see Ashley's car clearer as I got closer and closer behind her. I needed to come up with my next move and quick. I knew I said I would jump the bridge but even I had to think if it was worth it. Even I had to admit it was probably a fluke I survived the last time. I wouldn't tell others that though, I would jump it again if I had to.
If I was to avoid the bridge I would need to take the next left. Looking at Ashley's car once I knew she wouldn't take the risk. So I wouldn't either. I wanted this to be a fair match even if we did just take short cuts not that long ago. The only reason I wanted it to be fair was so that she wouldn't whine like a little bitch when I won this race.
Getting ready to turn I slowed down slightly to let Ashley get around the corner first. There was no point in letting her car hit me on the way around. The girl was unpredictable when it came to things like that and I wasn't risking it.
A few seconds later I looked on stunned as she went straight not even thinking about taking the turn. This move changed the whole game plan.
Knocking on the screen on the dash board Zoe's face popped up and she looked pissed off. Her mood completely changed though when she noticed I had came back on.
"Lyra! What the hell, do you know the mood Riker is now in."
I couldn't give a damn about his mood. "I need you to look up if there is anymore routes around the bridge."
"I thought you didn't want help." She gloated but I seen from the corner of my eye she was doing what I asked.
"Just do it."
I knew the answer already though. Growing up around these streets meant I knew every corner and every stone. Knowing that, it was pretty obvious that Ashley was going to jump it. I wasn't going to lie I didn't think the girl would ever have the balls to do it.
"There isn't another route unless you turn back." Spoke Zoe after a few seconds of silence. "Do you plan on jumping it still?"
"I wasn't going to." I bit out dodging an upcoming car. "But Ashley is by the looks of it and I can't beat her if I don't."
"Is that bitch crazy?" Asked Zoe with nothing but doubt on her face. "It doesn't sound like something she would do."
"No it doesn't....." I said trailing off. None of this sounds like anything Ashley would do. She is crazy but not a big risk taker and she's taking every one of them right now. I wouldn't believe she was driving that car if I hadn't seen her at the start of the race. Unless.....
"Lyra you need to turn around..."
"Zoe we've been through this I'm jumping it so either shut up and go away." I bit back, I was stick of them trying to tell me what to do.
"No seriously Lyra, you need to turn around. They are raising the bridge straight up its a massive cargo ship passing through."
I didn't even have time to register what she had said my body just asked on impulse. Slamming my breaks hard and pulling the hand break up I turned the car as quickly as I could. The tires screeched along the hard ground and I could feel the pressure through the steering wheel. I needed to go around and Ashley was the least of my problems now. The other cars would've took the left turn by now so I was no behind them.
Shit.
"Lyra there's no way you're going to catch them." I could hear the doubt in her voice from a mile away. She thought this race was over.
"You should've listened to me." It was Riker's voice in the background and for the first time I realised he knew this was going to happen. He wasn't worried I couldn't make it, he knew the bridge would be completely raised.
"You should've fucking told me you dick." Putting my foot down hard on the accelerator the car took off like a bullet. I didn't have time to waste now.
"Would you have listened?"
I didn't answer that question, I needed to focus on this race. Turning down the street I should've done in the first place I watched as cars moved out of my way, headlights slightly blinding me. I was to focused though on the road in front of me, my mind coming up with all possible routes to get me to that finish line the quickest.
I had three cars to pass, three cars I first needed to catch up with. Hopefully I was far enough ahead earlier to buy myself back some time. That was only a hope though.
I seen an alleyway come up that would cut me into the next street quicker I turned the steering wheel and pressed the breaks letting it drift into the small narrow space. There couldn't have been anymore than 3 inches on either side of my car as I drove down it. If I scratched my baby I would probably have a mental breakdown.
I was thankful the path in front of me was clear. It was a risk to go down it in the first place but I didn't have much choice. Lining up my car I planned the next turn carefully, to early and I'd crash into the wall, to late and I'd completely overshot to the other side of the street.
Without thinking I turned the car and was thankful nothing bad happened. My whole face lit up though when I seen two of the other cars right in front of me. Cutting through that alleyway was worth the risk. Knocking down my car a gear I let it shot forwards once more.
I could hear Zoe cheer in excitement. "That's some crazy ass driving you've got going on there."
"What's your next move little sister?" I could hear Damon ask but I was focused. I already knew what I need to do.
"Watch." Was all I had to say.
Tail gating the car in front of me for a few seconds the car started to weave from side to side. I stayed right on its ass though. I could see that the second car was only a few inches in front of the third car on the right. It was at that moment I knew what I needed to do.
At the minute even the devil on my left shoulder was screaming out 'what the hell are you doing?' When it heard what I thought.
Coming from the third car from behind I drove up to it's right hand side. I just prayed they would do what I wanted them to. After a few seconds they did. They went to crash into the side of my car but I slammed my foot on the break letting my car roll right back.
The third car though knocked into the side of the second car sending it side ways due to the fact it was right in front of us. Not only did it tip over itself but it crashed straight into the third car. Looking at my mirrors I could see that they were officially out of the race with one car on its roof and the other on its side.
"What the fuck was that!" Screamed out Archer in anticipation.
"Skill." I looked carefully for the first car and see it straight ahead. We were only two miles now from the finish line. I didn't have much time left.
There was one corner left before the last straight. I needed to make my move on that bend.
Hitting 200 miles an hour it didn't take long for me to catch up and I took the inside for the next corner. Setting my car up for a drift I pushed the other car to the outside completely messing up their line.
Straightening up my car after I could see I threw the drive off the car completely. They were struggling to get there car back on the straight line.
I was in the clear.
Making sure there was no cars about I let my car take off like a bullet.
Half a mile to go I could see the finish line it was just a straight road.
"Am I good?" Asking Zoe. I didn't want any surprises and yes I was used racing by myself but if someone was there keeping track of everyone it would be a crime not to use it to an advantage.
"Yep. You've got this."
Seconds later I crossed the line and I let a massive grin cross my face. Slowing the car to a stop people gathered around my car in a cheer. It was good to know I still had it.
I relaxed back in my seat for the first time not noticing how stiff I was. I zoned out as I watched people cheer around my car, drinks in their hands as they talked amongst each other. It was clearly the outcome they wanted.
My car door opened and I seen my twin brother standing there a grin just as big as my own on his face.
"Ok I might still be against you racing but even I'm going to tell you that was one hell of a race."
I laughed as I took my seat belt off and slowly got out the car. I stretched out my back as I did so, my eyes clashing with Riker's."
"That's how you race princess." He commented as he took a step closer to me.
I shrugged and looked at my car. "Told you I'd win."
He rolled his grey eyes that almost looked white in the dark. "Princess I always knew you'd win. It was a matter of not listening, which is your problem."
"You weren't telling me not to jump it out of fear for me were you?" I asked curious about the answer. "You were just giving me advice."
He leaned in closer so he was whispering in my ear. Only I could hear what was to be next.
"Princess, you don't need me to watch your back, you can conquer the world by yourself. I need you to watch mine."
