Lesson Forty-Five - Stay Ready So You Don't Have To Get Ready.

Detention. Something I had been to, ever. It was something I should've been to more than once in my life but of course I hadn't been. My family ruled this City. I hated how spoilt I shouldn't but there was somethings you just had to use to your advantage and getting out of doing stuff like this was one of them.

Zane was currently sitting beside me looking bored out of his head, even he was smart enough to show up. Though I'm pretty sure my nice little threat to him at lunch time made sure that happened. Mr Davis was serious in what he said about I wasn't going to push my luck right now with him. I needed to stay under his radar until my life was sorted outside of school. I couldn't deal with them both right being shit.

Riker though, Riker wasn't here. Knowing graduating to him wasn't at the top of things for him to care about he probably would risk not showing up. Then again surprised me when he walked in through the class room door completely cutting off the teacher as he spoke about the work. The teacher though didn't seem to care anymore and sat down at his desk telling us to do what ever we wanted as long as we were quiet. I'm sure Mr Davis would be happy to hear about that if he knew. I just needed to get through this hell of an hour.

Sitting down in the table on the other side of me I turned my attention to him. "I'm surprised you showed up."

He looked over my shoulder to Zane with his cloud grey eyes before he turned his attention back to me.

"So am I." That was all he said as he got more comfortable in his seat. We couldn't even take out our phones to pass the time as Mr Davis had completely banned them. This man was starting to hammer down the rules and was serious about them all. I didn't know which one of the boys on either side of me would crack first but my beat was on Riker. He didn't have much appreciation for people who tried to tell him what to do. Not that I was much better.

"What are we going to do about Mr Davis?" Zane kept his voice low as he pulled his chair over to my table.

"Mr Davis isn't our problem right now. What I want to know is where is your uncle?"

Zane ran his hand through his hair in frustration making me narrow my eyes at him. "How am I meant to know? Mr Davis took my phone off me if you don't remember. Not all of us can walk around like Riker and can afford to leave here without a education."

The two of us turned our attention to Riker who was sitting there on his phone. I glanced at the teacher to see he wanted to tell Riker off but he wasn't brave enough to. No matter what rules Mr Davis put into the school it was clear that some reputations just couldn't be stood up to.

Looking at Riker I could see that his face was getting sterner and harder as he texted away on his phone. Who ever he was talking to was clearly serious as I could see the tight grip around his phone. There was something off, I could sense it. Something bad has happened.

"Riker?" My voice was low making sure that no one else could here us in the otherwise silent room.

Riker's gaze snapped to Zane completely ignoring me, I was slightly offended but it quickly past with his next look. I had never seen something like it before on Riker's face. Pain. Pain that he was about to say something he didn't want to say.

"Zane have you heard from your parents?"

Zane narrowed his eyes at Riker in confusion. "No I haven't heard from them since we got back and the guys haven't said anything to me. Why?"

"Zane, they were found dead in your house."

***********************************************************************************************

My body had been in a state of shock for the rest of the day as I sat in the living room with my brother not believing the news. I couldn't believe that Zane's parents had been murdered in their own home. Somewhere were they should feel safe and not have a fear on what lay on the door on the other side. They should have, they were murdered as soon as they stepped foot in the front door.

"Have you heard from Zane?"

I didn't even look at Damon to answer him my gaze to focused on the tv. "No, he bolted out of detention before I could go after him. Riker chased after him though, he texted me earlier to say he was with him."

Knowing I should've tried harder to go after him I knew I couldn't face him. Mr and Mrs Knight were once like second parents to me and I could get my head wrapped around the fact that they weren't here anymore. I couldn't get over the fact that someone was such a coward they would kill them defencelessly. My eyes were red from the strain of holding back my tears but I couldn't cry. It just wouldn't happen I was in to much shock that something like this would happen.

My sadness though quickly turned into anger. Who ever did this needed to pay and I was smart enough to know that Zane's uncle had something to do this. Oliver had something to do with his brothers death and his wife. I honestly would put it past him to find out if he was the one that actually did it. There was always something off about the man. Something cold that told me that he would do anything to get what he wanted. He was working with Nisha Brooks, I just knew it. Sometimes I wish I wasn't this smart.

Lifting my phone ready to ring Ben when my brothers phone started to ring. Damon looked down at his phone weirdly before lifting it. Then his face turned into one of recognition and he answered.

"What's up?" He answered and I frowned at him asking with my expression who it was. He mouthed back Riker and I nodded understanding.

"What do you mean shit is going down?" I had never seen my brother move so quick in his life as he stood up and quickly put on his shoes that he had kicked off to the side earlier when we came home. "Yea I'll be there, coming now."

"What's going on?" I demanded as I followed my brother out of the room. We almost knocked over one of the maids cleaning the windows and quickly said sorry but never stopped in our tracks.

"Riker said shit is going down a few miles outside the City and I need to get there."

My brother walked into the garage grabbing the keys to one of the many cars. I quickly took them off him though and took my own off the key hook and but the other ones back. Would I hell just be sitting here letting them deal with this by themselves. Who did they think I was?

"I'll drive."

Damon didn't even try to stop me. It was something I loved about Damon he knew I could handle myself no matter where I went. I wasn't one of those stupid girls that always got into trouble were ever they went and I didn't need guys to protect me. I could probably protect myself better without there help than with.

Walking over my baby we got in and my brother put on his seat belt as I switched on the car and got it ready. As the garage doors open I seen that it was now dark, summer was long gone and I couldn't be more happy. I hated the summer time, winter was my time of year.

"Did Riker tell you what we should expect?" I asked as I put my foot down and the car took off down our long driveway.

"No he just said shit was going down with some of the ones from Zane's gang."

Straight away had popped into my head about Zane's uncle earlier came back to the surface. He was going to be there and I just knew it and I was going to make him pay and I was going to make Nisha Brooks pay because I was sure she was the mastermind behind all this. She was the reason Zane's parents were now dead.

It only took me ten minutes to get outside the city and Damon told me where to go to find them. I didn't ask how he knew and I didn't really care at this point so much more was running through my head that I didn't have time to add another thing to the list.

Quickly I moved my car in and out of the lane, moving around other cars. My brother told me to take a sharp left turn down one of the back roads and I left the car drift around the corner. We were soon on a dirt road the grip on my tyres changing with it.

It wasn't long before I seen headlights of other cars all lined up about ten cars on either side all facing each other. I pulled my car up stop sharply making a cloud of dust surround us. Taking one of the guns that were hidden under the seat I put it under my jacket behind me and got out of the car. The dust had settled and because of the headlights of all the cars I could see everyone's face clearly. The face's that completely caught me off guard though was Mr and Mrs Wilson. Sky's parents.

They were standing because a short man with a beer belly. I knew that man straight away, it was Oliver.

"The Heiress of the city has graced us with her presence I see." Oliver's voice was full of mocking as he took me in with his dark brown eyes  making sure to show his disgust at my appearance.

I always knew the man didn't like but this right now was next level. More so when I haven't ever done anything to the man. For once in my life I actually didn't know why someone didn't like me. Wasn't that surprised though.

I stood between Riker and Zane who hadn't even looked at me when I shown up, my brother standing a few feet behind me with his gun ready. He always had my back and it was clear that was his aim by standing there.
