Lesson Eight - Some People Are Not Meant To Be Tamed. They Are Meant To Run Wild Until They Find Someone Just As Wild To Run With Them.

To sum up what was happening.

I didn't fucking know.

I was standing at the top of the staircase looking down at the guests below. It was one of my fathers formal get together dinners. I didn't really know what this one was over but all I knew was that I was standing here looking at all those people having more fun than me.

These things annoyed me. I grew up with these formal diners and they do nothing but show how stuck up most of the wealthy were.

All they did was go around talking about what they had spent their money on this week.

The worst part?

My mother was invited and in turn she invited the Kennedy's. Like I needed to see anymore of them.

In that moment I locked eyes with Riker who was down the stairs in the open entrance talking to some middle aged couple. His cloud grey eyes looking right at me. He held up his glass in greeting with a smirk on his face. I scoffed and looked away. I took a sip out of my own glass acting like I was ignoring him.

I'd be lying if I didn't say he looked handsome in his black shirt and pants. His tattoos were poking out of the collar of his shirt and his hands, it made him look even better in my eyes.

"Lyra?" I turned around to see one of the hired investigators standing behind me. He was dressed up for the formal party in order to blend in. He was holding out a file to me and I took it gratefully.

"Thank you." I said and with that he left.

Looking down at the file I grinned and seen what I was looking for. The title was Kennedy family. I looked down at Riker and held up the file to show him. He looked at me with narrowed eyes. He knew I was up to something.

He seemed to excuse himself from the couple and walked up the stairs to met me. People were greeting him on the way past but he didn't pay them much attention.

"What have you got there princess?" His voice sounded like he didn't care but I could tell he was curious. They always were when there was something in the air that they didn't know.

Men were simple creatures.

I showed him the title and he froze. He looked at me carefully and quickly got his composure back. "What's that princess?"

I turned on my heel and started to walk down the hallway. I knew he would follow and that's what I wanted. I didn't need all the eyes on us. I could already sense the judgement.

"Seeing as you knew so much about my family I thought I should do my own research on yours."

"There's nothing to find out about my family." He sounded so sure about it but I knew differently, there was something his family was hiding. No one would know that much about a family if there wasn't secrets of their own they wanted to keep. To hide your own secrets you needed other peoples secrets to keep on top of the game.

"See that's what the first three investigators told me as well but then I thought about it. If your family is anything like mine, it's secretive so I went a bit deeper and paid someone on your payroll some big bucks."

He narrowed his eyes. "Give me the file."

I laughed slightly then with a straight face and kept walking. "Nope."

"Princess give me the file."

"Nope."

"Lyra!"

Stopping dead in my tracks I was surprised, in all my life Riker has never raised his voice at me. From we were kids we always had our differences but not once can I remember had he ever raised his voice. More importantly, he's never called me by my actual name.

Never.

As I stopped in my tracks two people walked past us whispering under their hands. They were clearly talking about us and Riker noticed it to. People needed to mind their own business.

Human nature was something that was hard to change.

Riker grabbed my arm and pulled me into the nearest room. It was one of the many guest rooms in my house and he locked the door.

"Give me the file." He held out his hand and I got my composure back and stood up straight. I was five foot five and he was six foot one so clearly he towered over me but that didn't stop me from standing up to him, it never did.

"Nope." I said again holding it out of his reach behind me. Almost like a child who got caught with something they shouldn't have.

"Fuck me Lyra! Give it to me." I flinched again at him saying my actual name. Clearly what ever could be in the file was something he didn't want me to know.

"What's the big deal. You know all off my families dirty secrets." I glared at him as I turned around and started backing up to the middle of the room. I was putting some distance between us. He could easily over power me if he wanted to. I trusted him enough to know he wouldn't hurt me but that didn't mean anything for other things.

Sometimes there was worse things than pain.

"Princess, there is a difference between dirty secrets like your brother flunking out of school and what is in that file." He looked at it as he held out his hand, his eyes were softer this time almost begging. Never before had I seen that look in his eyes "So give me it."

"Why do you call me that?"

He looked at me clearly surprised with my question. I had caught him off guard it was just what I wanted.

Though I was going to admit I never planned on asking that question. It was something that had just come out of my mouth without thinking.

That was very unlike me.

"What?"

"Why do you always call me princess?"

"It's a habit. Plus I always knew that you would be the one to take over your families empire." He was serious in what he spoke I could see it all over his body. He was still holding out his hand for the file but I ignored it.

"You calling me that used to annoy Zane, do you have any idea how much that used to piss him off." Riker rolled his eyes at my ex boyfriends name.

He and Zane never got on and the whole City knew it.

"Well than that was a bonus." His eyes shifted to the file. "Now stop changing the subject and give me the file."

"No."

This time he ran at me. I started to run around the room with him hot on my heels. I jumped on top of the bed ready to run for either side as he stood at the foot of the bed holding the frame. His eyes looked highly amused as I stood on the bed in my heels and dress.

"Getting a bit kinky aren't we?" I rolled my eyes at his comment of course he would think that.

Watching carefully as he dived for me again I went to jump off the bed but my foot got caught in the sheets sending me flying. Before I knew it I crashed to the ground but it wasn't as painful as I thought it was going to be.

Riker groaned from under me and I opened my eyes to see that I had landed on him. His back had hit the ground and I sat up so that I straddling his waist. My dress had rid up but I didn't really care.

"Sorry, are you ok?" I asked slightly worried as he shifted slightly in pain. I did land pretty hard on top of him.

"I'm fine you just winded me." He tried to catch his breath back again. "How much do you weigh?" I went to hit his chest but he grabbed my wrist before I could so I settled for sending a nasty glare instead.

Looking into his eyes I noticed that they had glazed over. The cloud grey colour was now even more captivating as I looked at him. I always knew he was one of the best looking guys I knew but now looking at him and those eyes it was by far the truth.

"See something you like princess?" He smirked and I rolled my eyes.

"You wish." I went to get up but he grabbed my hips keeping me where I was. The deep purple dress had rid up that much that the tip of his fingers were brushing against my bare skin. I could feel his grip tighten a bit.

"Well I see something I like."

His voice was deeper, something that I didn't even know was possible. I could feel his fingers tracing over the tattoo that was showing on my upper right leg.

"Stop it." But my voice didn't sound like I wanted him to stop at all and I hated myself for that. He clearly sensed it as well. He grinned and grabbed my hips tighter and shifted me slightly. I raised my eyebrows knowing fully well what he was doing.

"This tattoo right here." He said tracing the tattoo again to prove his point. "Has always made me curious."

A smirk appeared on my face and I leaned forward rocking my hips slightly. I heard him groan quietly under his breath. I traced my lips over his neck and reached up and over his head to grab the file.

I whispered in his ear. "You'll need to take a cold shower then because you being curious is as far as your going to get."

Using my hands I pushed up off him and he let me go as he gave out a deep chuckle. He seen the file in my hand now and sat up.

"Well played."

"I'm girl." I said rolling my eyes. "We know how to use what god gave us."

"Your forgetting one factor though." He stood up and grabbed the file out of my hand and held it above his head. I tried to grab it from him but I couldn't reach. "I'm still taller." With that he and my file walked out the door.

I crossed my arms and huffed. I might have one the battle but he won the war and I hated that fact.

********

Excitement for the formal party to be over was all over my face. Every time I seen Riker he just smirked and winked at me and return I gave him a sucking look. He didn't have the file with him and it made me curious on what he did with it. I could go look for it but I lived in a big ass house with acres off land, it could be anywhere.

Sometimes it sucked being rich.

Turning around I seen my brother Damon talking to some girl around our age, I started to make my way over to them. The girl gave me the dirtiest look when he turned his attention to me and I rolled my eyes.

"Calm it, he's my twin brother."

The girls faces heated up and she ran off, Damon laughed slightly as he watched her go.

"What can I do for you dear sister?" I loved how he always knew when I wanted something. I swear it was a sixth sense we both had. Our father just called it creepy.

"The Kennedy's are hiding something." He raised his eyebrows and looked at me.

"What are you on about?"

"Just tell me if your in or not?"

"I'm in." I love how he didn't even know what it was about but he was game for it and that's what I loved about my twin brother. He was always there for me.

Always ready for trouble.
